What position will the Ravens select with their first pick in the draft?

I feel like he just wasn’t a hype name entering the offseason, and media outlets have had a hard time catching up to what the film watchers are seeing. Film shows a slam dunk top 20 kinda edge rusher, all reports suggest he’s a top character guy, he’s gonna go higher than the media says

The latest mocks are group thinking him to Tampa at #19. Lots of volatility in the rankings 15-35. That usually means a no brainer falls to us.

I'm feeling pretty good about it. Would anybody be shocked if Tyler Booker is a Raven at #27?

I know not a thing about the prospects this year because I watched no games, looked at no mock drafts etc etc. Don't know where the class is stacked and weak.

With that being said, if we walk away Thursday night with a seriously talented

EDGE
CB
S
IOL

I'll be pretty happy. Anyone agree?

DT would be fantastic also

i wouldnt love the S pick but i'd be fine with it and understand it
i don't think CB's gonna be the pick and idk that it's a great draft for CB especially with where we're picking

DT, EDGE, OL feel like the big options we could have

The more I've thought about it the cooler I've gotten on a S in rds 1-3, especially rd. 1. Emmanwori is my #1 AVOID guy, those tweener freaks in rd 1 almost never work out. Starks would only makes sense if the board fell really badly.

ravens have done a bunch of work on the mid-round safeties - my hope is that's where they go after someone like Jaylen Reed if he's there in the 4th round...

Was just watching the DT from oregon that you guys been posting about and yea… he not gonna be there when we pick lol

Is there something wrong with the edge rusher from BC? He looks great. Did they not play any competition or something?

Yeah I think him and Nolan will be gone top 15.

All 3 of these guys are among my favourites

Harmon's consistently productive with length, athleticism and size
Ezeiruaku's long and bendy with a bag of moves coming into the league
Nolen's explosive and powerful and if you just watch his highlights you'd think he was a top 3 player in this draft class

Why do I get the feeling Philly is gonna jump us for Starks?

because they did the same thing for jordan davis
what's funny is it may well be the same situation as that time where they jump us for a player they think we want and then we just go BPA with the guy we were going to go with the whole time

My thoughts exactly. I do want Starks, simply bc I feel this is a deep DL draft and you can get similar guys in rounds 2-3. Walter Nolen is a stud tho and it would be pretty funny and ironic if Philly were to jump us and take the safety for us to take the d lineman lol

I’d be kinda shocked. I don’t think the ravens want to take a G in the first round ever if they can help it. I personally would love to see a guard, i just think it goes against their philosophy unless there’s an absolute no brainer who falls just because of positional value. I go hot and cold on booker and if it happened I’d just hope for the best, I prefer Donovan jackson but I think he’s gone by 27.

So Tyler booker to the ravens feels like more of a trade back thing for me, I wouldn’t put any money on us taking him at 27.

i think they'd happily take a tackle who could play guard for us like Josh Simmons or Kelvin Banks if those guys got to 27 (probably unlikely) - guys who can play LG this season but also offer you Stanley insurance and also maybe even a Stanley succession plan (or if they're fantastic at guard, they just get to stay there like Zack Martin did)

Donovan Jackson potentially does fit that mould too

I just don't think Booker fits what the ravens typically look for in a R1 player - he's not a high-end athlete, he's not got any positional flexibility, he's also not particularly scheme versatile either

that's why he's more of a R2 guy for me

that said, if there's a team that loves him that runs a ton of gap/power and is desperate for a guard i wouldn't be surprised if he's higher on their boards, but i just don't see why the ravens would have as big of a grade on him as other teams other than he's long, powerful and from Alabama

That's disappointing.

He's a good player and he'd be good for us but how much does it help us to get stronger and stronger in the secondary at the expense of the lines?
Can’t just make the value fit the need. I’d personally rank Starks over any of the OL I think would be available there. I probably have a couple of DL guys higher but that’s also an extremely deep position in this draft.

My latest text:

“Starks is the hope”

i'd find that a bit disappointing but i'd understand it
in terms of investment though, 2 1st round picks at safety in 4 years is a wild allocation of resources and even DB more generally we've taken 3 of the last 4 years (3/5 of our first round picks since 2022)

my personal hope is that he goes ahead of us

i think this could be ripe for a @JoeyFlex5 meltdown - especially if harmon's medicals are dropping him and he's available at 27 and we still took starks...

For me, Starks is generally a bit over rated. Good but not special.

I see your point about wanting value for the pick but if you're picking the BPA at 27 then the depth of the class at other positions shouldn't really come into it, for me.

I hope, if they take him, it's because they think he's the best player on their board. It's really the only thing that would justify going secondary for the 3rd year out of 4 (along with paying Marlo a big contract). I worry about diminishing returns.

It goes without saying, but they're still going to go BPA. If someone better falls down and Starks is still there too, they're going to either take the better player or trade back. It's the hope but 27 picks is a lot to predict. I know for certain they did not go into the draft a few years back thinking they were getting Kyle Hamilton. Never know what's going to happen.
