2026 NFL Draft General Discussion

Sounds like Caleb Downs bout to Will Johnson this shit. A lot of smoke around his knee.

saw some people talking about him maybe having a degenerative ACL
then also saw some people talking about how it's not a big deal

i think teams will care a lot if that really is the case - Todd Gurley lasted just 6 seasons in the NFL

Honestly if Fano is gone and there's no big slide from a top 5 guy I kinda want Shadiq. For the first year he can play a lot from the slot or two TE formations, and fully take over as the top TE next season.

Despite the positional value I think he would bring more to our offense than any of the top WRs.

i just not convinced that sadiq's athletic testing is going to translate to the NFL in terms of running routes and getting open other than straight up the seam or in the quick game

and while he's a really good college TE blocker, at 240lbs im not sure that translates into being an effective blocker in-line at the NFL level

This is such a dumb discussion. God forbid your offense has two guys that can create separation.

I remember hearing the same argument when we drafted Zay because we signed Odell just before.

it's more about how you would use them together stylistically within the offence
not saying you can't at all - and not saying you take a lesser prospect just because the fit isn't perfect

but hard to argue there isn't a significant overlap in their ideal usage

That just doesn't make any sense. Overlap isn't a real thing for receivers. Tyreek and Waddle are similar players, did they overlap ?

So I guess the focus now is who are we taking in the second round. There are a few good guards that should be there in the 2nd and 3rd.

To your point, @JoeyFlex5 , about EDC seeing the board at 14 looking a bit lackluster for lack of a better word, I figure you'd agree with DJ's point here right?

Totally. 14 was a shit spot in this draft, you’re almost certain to feel like you’re overdrafting whoever you get.

For the most part, the guys you’d want to fall to 14 you can expect to be gone by 10, maybe 12.

If we took Vega at 14, I’d say “he’s probably the safest bet to contribute, and he fills a huge need” and I’d be satisfied. Feels Unlikely that anyone else that was actually gonna be available that would’ve made me excited about picking at 14. We’d have to land Caleb downs and convince ourselves that another safety is good for me to find any excitement.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a hefty trade back from 45 to grab a 2nd next year.

Think this draft is gonna be truly about quantity over quality of picks at this point, and that is seriously not good considering we’ve done pretty poorly overall on day 2 and 3 recently.

If we go into the season saying we did most of our roster building via trade and FA and we’re getting back to being draft focused next year, and pick up an extra 2nd along the way, I’d be satisfied with our offseason.

Maxx and a G and C, if we come out of FA and draft with these 2 things, then I think we’ve already hit a home run, everything else is gravy.

I would love to get more picks in the 2027 draft. I don't think our team is as bad as it seems. We have great pieces. I'd say our critical needs are:

1, EDGE: addressed with Crosby & Green; we should draft another guy here to develop. This is an excellent EDGE class and I don't believe in Isaac.
2. IOL: C (if Linderbaum not re-signed) is an issue but we do have Bullock. We also have Jones for G. At a minimum, I think we sign a G in FA regardless & draft 1-2 IOL since I think C is a position we address via draft if we lose Linderbaum.
3. WR: sneaky need, but one all the same. Bateman is OK and could rebound but he isn't enough for me. This draft is OK at WR. Not amazing but not bad, kind of lukewarm. I could see a FA WR in our future here. I feel the Draft is stronger at the top and not very deep so I don't think we come away with a drafted WR.
4. TE: a deep class but not exceptionally stellar on-paper. I think we draft a guy here regardless. Likely mid-round (Day 3) pick.
5. IDL: I think is solid, and we could come away with one at some point.

I think this class is just kinda meh, especially super late. I'd be open to trading up if we can in the mid rounds using late-round picks and I would seriously consider taking next year picks if offered. Assuming we can still address the top 2-3 needs on the team effectively.

Deep edge class
Deep WR class
Decent OL class
TE has lots of day 3 options
Don’t think it’s a great DL class at all - some NT options on day 2 but not high end or deep
Awful RB class
S class is stacked
Lots of CB options
