The Injuries, the Defense and the Offense (and the Special Teams)

Final thought for the night...

I will never understand our aversion to running the ball when we get down. It was effective. Henry was ripping 5 yards a clip and had a lot more positive than negative in his limited run. But for some reason when we go down against a high powered offense, we think the only way to keep up is to throw throw throw. Jam it down their throats and control the TOP. That's the best way to keep them from continuing to put up points - don't let them get the ball.

Especially against Kansas City. We script the offensive plan as if we're always spotting them 10 points. I think the total was 4 carries for 31 yards for Derrick Henry, and then essentially not used thereafter. It was telling when John Harbaugh was given that stat at the half-time interview and was asked about involving Henry, he was noncommittal.

“But, if you had made it in right as the locker room doors opened, you still would have struggled to find leaders to answer questions in the quiet room.

Starting Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who candidly called the defense out for being immature after the Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills, was the first one out before the doors opened.“

Marlon gotta get his topics ready for tomorrow’s episode.

I better not see that clown post up an episode

Game went as expected. Then we added a ton of injuries on top. Sucks but this season is over. Anything can happen like being as bad as a 6 win team or as good as a 10 win team. Doesn't matter. Team played with low effort and were visibly dejected. Both your coordinators are morons. Your HC is a kind old man who isn't helpful. Your GM thinks he's a genius by being a contrarian when in actually he's the chief moron.

I dont know why yall think anyone is getting fired on Monday. Ain't happening. But I think it is looking good for some major change at the end of the season.

Injuries have been massive on the defensive end. But so far, the most points allowed in the NFL are us at 133, New Orleans at 121 and Tennessee at 120. Troubling company as if stands, and that's before you factor in the talent disparity between the groups. We're also the only unit allowing over 400 yards per game. WOOF.

I'm rewatching the first quarter. The line is blocking well. The Chiefs are forced to send extra defenders. They send 6, 5 of which are aptly blocked.

Isaiah Likely (without the benefit of All 22), is open on the backside. Which has been there for several weeks. And we don't go through the reads and throw the back shoulder to Mark Andrews that ends up an INT. There was also a scramble attempt by Jackson earlier in a solid pocket that turned into a sack where Jackson basically runs straight into Jerry Tillery. Both feel fairly rushed from a mental standpoint. The offense is objectively the far lesser culprit considering the outputs of the two units, but there was meat left on the bone today when we could've been up by multiple scores.

I'm watching every other team apply some form of pressure and with all our picks dedicated to rushing we can't

He looked awful the last few years for the Patriots, and hasn't been great in college either. Not to mention he'll demand to be in charge of player personnel despite his drafting being awful.
Ofcourse he looked awful with that team he had.. i know for sure he wouldnt be allowing 33 ppg though

Yes, but he also put that roster together. Making a myriad of puzzling draft choices. Brutal, even. So his eye for personnel was questioned for years. Now with the disaster of a college career and the PR dilemma. Might be the worst possible realistic candidate available.

Seems not having Pat has caused that change. He's much more important to the scheme than most realize.

A friend of mine sent me this :

There is no doubt the big names quit on the team. 70% of the salary cap left the game with supposed injuries.

Which is ridiculous to me. We're more effective with Pat, yes. But we're not ineffective without him either.

Tin foil hats are fun.

Ronnie came into the game hurt. Marlon, Roquan, and Nate all clearly had injuries. Lamar is the question mark but the coaching staff down to the players had already thrown in the towel at that point.
