Next Up: vs Bears

I don't think the Bears will be in that group. Have a feeling we'll slaughter them.
I have a feeling too. This game should be telling. If we come out with a new OL lineup, and a new offensive philosophy(new guards and running a lot of wide zone and moving pockets) and play Likely and Hop in every single red zone snap(because why tf wouldn’t you?) I think we win easily and go on a tear

And of course if the fucking defense figures it out and just becomes average

what reason would there be to be anxious about those outcomes - EDC has consistently not traded out of a first round pick when a big time talent is there - we've had offers to move down most years but Tyler Linderbaum is the only first round guy we've traded down for (and worth noting we traded back into the first round to even get that pick in the first place)

even before that though, other than 2018 where there were a ton of trade downs but also a trade back in to get go and get lamar, they havent traded up or down from a first round pick since 2012...

i know people are pissed about the DL and the guard situation but i really don't understand this EDC hate that's turned up - makes no sense to me at all
Ojabo

Yes barmore, I forgot to add the name to the post. The OL picks are a bit hindsight but barmore was so fucking obvious to me at the time. I was definitely in on both those OL on draft night especially over oweh, but yeah passing on barmore for oweh, when we had jack shit for DL at the time, felt like a crime.

Ojabo, you’re right, at the time it’s like wow what a steal, but also the redshirt injury prospects have literally never worked for us so again it felt like a great value at the time but the reasons to pass on him were obvious.

it's hindsight in the fact that i didnt mention teven jenkins or elijah moore (who i also had over oweh on my board) as well as a few other guys

but i dont think it's hindsight to say that most of us would have preferred dickerson and humphrey to oweh in the moment (as well as with hindsight)

with ojabo i dont even know if that first injury was his biggest issue given he looked pretty ok when he came back from that injury, it was more that he lost the 2nd season to injury too in week 3 and hasn't shown any sort of athletic difference making or talent since

i'd be surprised if we come out with a new OL lineup
i know the beat guys aren't allowed to talk about that stuff (which means people can speculate that it might be changing) but i'd be surprised if they change it... the reports seem to be that despite emery jones being added to the 53, he's still working back to full health, ben cleveland's not an answer i'd particularly like, and idk that they view bullock as an option at guard right now

I’m going off of zrebiec saying he’d be surprised if there isn’t a new starter or two

I know there have been considerations of swapping in Kenyon Green for Vorhees over the bye, but that thought was pre-Rams game and of course Vorhees came out and had his best game by far. I don't know if anything has changed on that front.

But yeah, I'd expect the same starting 5 with maybe a shuffle on who is active on the backup front in the coming weeks.

I know they do like Bullock but I don't think they're thrilled with the idea of shuffling him back to C in a situation where that had to happen, because they have no other options there right now.

i get that for sure
but they've always been obsessed with positional flexibility as a way to get the best 5 guys on the field at the same time

same reason mekari was always so valuable

Yeah I don’t disagree. I think you gotta just do what gets the best guys out there and worry about emergencies when they happen instead of preemptively

With Oweh, you could have traded up for Rousseau. He was taken the pick before our pick. I wasn't a fan of Oweh only saw potential but decent risk in a low floor.

Oweh is definitely the biggest head scratcher of the early round picks of the EDC tenure. It's worth calling out that it was the first impact of the Covid year where that draft class was so thin, so I get the swing, but it's still hard to argue there weren't better options at the time and now, knowing what we know now of course.

I'd also lump Linderbaum in there as a head scratcher... not because of the talent, but because it was a stark departure from the OL body type we'd been drafting for years at that stage. Just felt like a guy that did not fit but props to them for ignoring that.

But I don't mind any of the other swings. They were all things that made sense at the time and for the most part, they've worked. And if they haven't, you can't let the benefit of hindsight cloud your judgment. The Ojabo pick had rave reviews at the time. Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean it was the wrong choice.

i wanted rousseau even less tbf
if i remember correctly, i think it was reported that the ravens liked rousseau and oweh about evenly which is why they went and picked Bate ahead of both of them because they were pretty confident one of the two would fall in their lap

and it's not like rousseau's been amazing - he's a bit like george karlaftis, both good but not great EDGEs

Oweh was the NFL COMBINE CHAMPION !!! WITH ZERO SACKS his senior year.

I knew he would be a dud.

Tonight I think he plays .He will have ZERO sacks!
