Coaching Carousel 2026

The biggest problem with Weaver in my eyes is that he's not going to offer you much from a gameplanning point of view that gives an edge. He's often been lauded for his leadership ability but he's not some schematic genius and the results of his two play calling stints have not been great. It's basically swapping one CEO-type for another.
Yah. I would love the best of both worlds: a CEO coach who can give the gameplanning edge. Obviously easier to request than find though

to me, if people are interested in klint kubiak, they should be excited about mike mcdaniel
I don't fully agree but get your premise and don't think it's necessarily wrong.

Klint has issues too, if I'm being honest. I am interested in him but also somewhat cautious. I don't think you can compare them though because we have seen what Mike McDaniel can do and his approach as a HC. We haven't with Klint.

1. Yes that was idiotic. I hope he's learned.
2. McDaniel was working with a terrible GM therefore roster. In terms of scheme he offers something innovative. Harbaugh held a playsheet once.
3. I don't know enough to comment on either of those things
No doubt, McDaniel would be cool with Lamar. As an OC, they would do great. I'm worried McDaniel may be just an OC. I'm not sure he has the HC qualities to work here. Maybe he has learned, though, from MIA.

I respect that but how often have we seen these genius like Mike McDaniel, Josh McDaniels, Brian Daboll, and others simply not work out as head coaches throughout the year. Anthony Weaver defense with the Dolphins was ranked 10th overall in 2024 and he was apart of the historical defense the ravens had in 2023 under MacDonald whom we all love but it's only right to say that Weaver gets credit for the defense success as well cause I'm sure him and others were a part of game planning.

Steve Smith Sr pointed out in his recent video about the ravens firing John Harbaugh and what is expected when hiring the next Ravens head coach and he pointed out that the next head coach has to be special. The ravens have been known for years as a top organization and have build an amazing culture according to some current and former players. I think it's important to hire a head coach thats going to be an asset to that culture and if it's a CEO coach again then im all for it. A coach that finds it important to build relationships and value integrity is important especially when you got a franchise quarterback that doesn't have a agent with needs contract extension on the way

And I understand that. If it was a perfect science, people would be picking the same style of HC each year, but they don't. You're pointing out the ones that didn't work but you could easily point to a McVay or a Shanahan or a number of other guys and say it has worked. Same would hold true for the CEO types - some have worked, and some have not.

To be clear, I have no real problems with Weaver. His players love him as a leader. I guess my biggest question is if you're going to swap out Harbaugh for someone who is going to operate in a similar manner, why did you move on from Harbaugh at all? The real "success" is kind of predicated on the coordinators around him in this scenario.

Buccaneers fire their Offensive Coordinator. They also fired their Special Teams Coach as well. So almost everyone but Bowles lol.

i worry mcdaniels offense is another one that’s gonna get too cute and outsmart itself. His pass designs are kinda gimmicky and they get figured out, run game couldn’t pick up the slack, and since the easy solution to defend mcdaniels pass game is just 2 high that also hurts Lamar’s scrambling ability.

I’d need to see proof that he can formulate a run game without relying on a gimmick passing game to stretch the field first.

He could very well be another guy whose prime has come and gone as DCs around the league have figured out the best way to defend him.
Think Tua limited him

The one thing I will say is what Suggs said about Harbaugh: that when he came here he brought "Championship" mentality. That Harbaugh would still let them be dogs but he wanted them to not make boneheaded mistakes. I'm paraphrasing but that was a big part of what led to our championship, IMHO.

So whoever we get, I feel that will be a critical quality. I am not convinced McDaniel has that at present. He may. I can also say that Weaver seems to have that, but he doesn't offer much beyond it. I do prefer to have a coach who can design plays and contribute more there than what I felt like Harbaugh did.

And they may end up going that route. Just puts a lot of pressure on that guy to find the visionaries instead of being one half of that puzzle himself.

Personally, I hope we get someone who is apart of the puzzle and can be a CEO type too. I won't mention Mike Mac but he is an example of someone who is in that mold, to an extent.

I think we could have our cake and eat it, too.

thinking about where Harbs ends up
and i think it's worth thinking about the fact that he'll probably want to go somewhere where he can align with a GM i.e. somewhere where there's a GM opening (or could be if he asks for it) or somewhere where he has a good existing relationship with a GM in post

which makes me think Dolphins, Falcons and Giants (because i reckon Joe Schoen could be moved on if Harbs said that was a red-line)

also, typically owners and franchises like to hire different skillsets to the one they just fired when it comes to coaches

obviously bisciotti's not a reactionary guy but you'd think that if he's firing Harbs because it's time for a change, that the change would be more substantial than just a different face and message in the building
