Coaching Carousel 2026

It's how McVay & Shanahan always have a continuous stream of talent at coaching and on their team. Those coaches have a vision, execute it through their people, and they make it work consistently.

and because of their principles and philosophies being so embedded within the organisation it means that

1) every offensive coach (down to the analysts and assistants) is taught the same fundamental ideas and principles - those guys filter through the organisation and those fundamentals just get stronger throughout - that's not to say people cant bring new perspectives and ideas to the table, but the core principles are the same

2) the front office and scouting and pro personnel have a strong idea of what traits and characteristics are important, what positions and team-building philosophies are important - we've seen this on defence in baltimore because of the strong organisational principles through multiple DCs almost exclusively hired internally and it means that even we as fans know exactly what a ravens defensive player looks like and plays like

Just a thought. Steve wants a HC that can be the face of the frnavjise for the remainder of time that he's the owner. To me that means a strong leader who is going to get the defense right. Baltimore has always been a place that plays good defense. If we can have a strong ass defense for years to come with Saleh or Flores, I think that will right the ship.

I just believe Lamar will succeed with any coordinator if he has an OL. The team needs to be mentally strong and it needs to get back to "defense travels".

i dont think that's fundamentally true though
lamar's the face of the franchise right now, it makes sense that if he's your identity that an offensive HC would only strengthen that idea

you can have a hard-nosed blue-collar identity without being a defensive team

As a HC, felt like he underachieved with the talent ATL has. I wouldn't mind him as a DC.

You know it's bad when Falcons fans across the board were essentially celebrating that he's gone now.

QB situation was horrible
they still won 4 straight to finish the season and in doing so, stopped the Bucs going to the playoffs, stopped the rams from having a chance at the 1 seed

but id also honestly forgotten that he wasnt a first time HC with the falcons lol

cant fail in two places as a HC and expect another job quickly

I also don't mean to sound the alarms because there's still a long time to go in this process, but I've heard the interest in Anthony Weaver is legit.
I mean, he sounds good. I just don't love that pick at first glance. It could turn out great, though.

The expectations from some of these teams who don't have good QB play will never stop surprising me

especially when they hire a defensive HC
like you expect this person to fix your QB and your offence while also running your defence without actually giving them a QB to work with

they're not miracle workers

ultimately just proves once again that the QB is the most important person in your franchise other than the owner

He was with the Buccaneers before, IIRC, and didn't do much there, either.

I feel like we can just find a better DC. I feel like Orr aside, we've always managed to replace DCs who left this team. I feel like we can do it again, too. Will we always have a crazy good defense? Maybe not, but top-10 is good enough to win a championship IMHO. I feel we can find that and field that with the defensive talent we have at this moment.
I agree with all of this, which is why I think an OC as HC is the way to go. All of the OC-type guys are younger ( than JH ), so I view this as a complete systematic reset, so to speak. I feel like John was just ancient, almost. I said a long while ago that I felt he was stale. That's what I think got him fired. He didn't see how stale he was; both with message and outlook.

With a younger OC minded HC and a DC that the HC is familiar with, I think we reset everything completely with that and the youth we have on the team. A DC guy like Weaver might resonate because he brings the history, but I think a guy like Flores or Saleh might be just as interesting as a McDaniel might be as a HC.

You can have a great candidate in a shitty situation and it will fail. A great candidate in a great situation is what we're looking at in our situation, I think... both offensively and defensively.

as in that it's not just a courtesy
or as in that he'd be a "favourite"

im sure weaver would be a great HC
but if he's the guy, just like Harbs, you live and die as an organisation based on his coordinator hires

I'd say much more the former. They're going to give him a legitimate crack at it.

which is only right tbf
everyone they interview should be given a legitimate crack at it and he certainly deserves an interview based on his prior experience here as the assistant HC and the way he's viewed league-wide

I've heard Kubiak and Minter being mentioned in the same breath, so he's certainly someone they see as a legitimate possibility. But like with all things, we'll see. Someone outside of that group could easily come in and impress. They may be the on paper "favorites" but they're going in with a completely open mind here.
