Coaching Carousel 2026

This blurb from Yahoo really turns me on:

“It is rare for an NFL head coach to be fired and immediately walk into a better situation with his next team. That is exactly the position Mike McDaniel would be in if he becomes the next Baltimore Ravens’ coach. He would go from the limitations of orchestrating an offense quarterbacked by Tua Tagovailoa to building one around two-time NFL MVP and future Hall of Famer Lamar Jackson. It could allow him to return to the passing game efficiency that Miami saw in 2023, when it averaged 8.3 yards per attempt (second in the NFL), while utilizing a dual-threat quarterback who could further unlock his rushing scheme led by Derrick Henry.

Additionally, McDaniel could bring Dolphins’ defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver Jr. with him. It would be a return to Baltimore for Weaver, who was passed over for Zach Orr when the Ravens needed to replace Mike Macdonald. As the Ravens’ head coach, McDaniel would have a shot at competing for the Lombardi Trophy over the next two or more years. This would be an A-grade hire for Baltimore and a perfect pairing for both.”
I don't want Weaver as DC.

I'm not entirely opposed to McDaniel as HC (though he wouldn't be in my top 2-3 choices), but I have zero interest in just bringing the Miami coaching staff to BAL. I'd want a different DC than Weaver.
I agree with this a lot. Weaver isn't a DC to me. I don't think that fits him best. For me he is either HC or position coach. I don't see a good coordinator.

I also don't want to recast the Miami coaching staff and hope a different result with different players and position coaches. Seems...kinda crazy

Webb seems like a hot candidate. It does kinda freak me out how he has no coordinator experience and just emerged from nowhere. He is also from the Payton coaching tree, so that could be kinda cool. It would certainly be different.
I might be in the minority but I'm not afraid of any choice they make. I think a bunch of us have a preference for someone that can give a schematic edge, and I totally understand that. At the same time, there is no recipe for what makes a good coach. All different walks of life have succeeded - the one side of the ball specialists, the CEOs, the young guys that seem to come out of nowhere, and a good number of other types as well. I'm much more concerned about the personality and what they can offer as far as a culture, motivation, keeping up with the future and adapting, etc. Hell, I mean, some good coaches are only good coaches because of the players and personnel they have around them. If someone like Webb (just because he's mentioned here) is the piece we need now but not necessarily the piece we need 8 years from now, so be it.

No fear here either, as I trust Steve who built a business on this to get it right. I feel like whoever we get, they were the best for the job. I'm glad we are leaving no coach unturned.

I think that's what I like most about this search - they're casting an insanely wide net and talking to a lot of people. Sure, they may have their on paper preference, but it's still up to that guy to go in and perform and show they deserve the job. And it gives the opportunity for a guy you may not be as sure about to come in and impress and do the exact same thing.

Like you said, Steve made his fortune on this type of business. I've worked for a couple of those firms in a past life and that's kind of how I got in there... I went in and earned that job. A lot of places prioritize internal growth which is great, but sometimes the ones you don't expect come in and take it away from the perceived favorite. I'd expect that same to hold true for this job just as much as that $45K job I got at the time.

Also, you learn a lot of things about these coaches of whom you will certainly coach against and compete against for players and draft picks. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re also getting insight into free agency and the draft through these interviews with how competitive they are at those areas.

In Steve we trust!

i really think mcdaniel's the guy we should want in the building
and idk that HC is out of the question for me...

McDaniel with a solid DC is the way to go. I don’t have the stats on hand but, based off of the games I’ve watched, with Tua he mostly attacked the middle of the field in the pass game and I have to think that’s a reflection on his QBs ability or lack there of. I have no doubts his offense would evolve with a better QB. I think he would lean into Lamar’s running ability and evolve his run game and create some sick shit. Not only that, the upgrade in roster for him would be huge. I’m glad to hear we at least interviewed him.

While I think someone like Kubiak or McDaniel would be better for them, Harbs would instantly take that team to the top of their division. That would be a smart decision by him
I actually think Atlanta is the best job available, excluding us obviously. Nice pieces in place and a weak division. Shouldn't be too terribly difficult to take over.

As I said before, it's very easy for Harbaugh to replicate what he had in Baltimore with a run first approach, you got Kyle Pitts at Tight End and maybe adding Likely in free agency who knows the system. I would be curious to see if he brings Monken with him or looks at someone like Weaver as his DC.

Schefter also says Harbaugh has had phone calls with the Giants, Titans, Browns, Raiders & Cardinals.
Falcons it is lol
