Coaching Carousel 2026

I might be in the minority but I'm not afraid of any choice they make. I think a bunch of us have a preference for someone that can give a schematic edge, and I totally understand that. At the same time, there is no recipe for what makes a good coach. All different walks of life have succeeded - the one side of the ball specialists, the CEOs, the young guys that seem to come out of nowhere, and a good number of other types as well. I'm much more concerned about the personality and what they can offer as far as a culture, motivation, keeping up with the future and adapting, etc. Hell, I mean, some good coaches are only good coaches because of the players and personnel they have around them. If someone like Webb (just because he's mentioned here) is the piece we need now but not necessarily the piece we need 8 years from now, so be it.

The last bit is what I'm curious about as well. Has to be a slight thought about the future while considering a coach that will maximize this current teams potential immediately. Trust the people in power to get it right

Oh i agree! We all know orr was the problem though but i just had to blame someone else.. however, i have yet to see an edge rusher actually develop into something here

i mean oweh did develop while he was here
just didnt hit the ceiling that people hoped for based on his athleticism

tavius has developed into a useful interior rusher

mike green has shown development over his rookie season

with ojabo and isaac's injuries... just not been a lot of young guys to work with the last few years

I think that's what I like most about this search - they're casting an insanely wide net and talking to a lot of people. Sure, they may have their on paper preference, but it's still up to that guy to go in and perform and show they deserve the job. And it gives the opportunity for a guy you may not be as sure about to come in and impress and do the exact same thing.

Like you said, Steve made his fortune on this type of business. I've worked for a couple of those firms in a past life and that's kind of how I got in there... I went in and earned that job. A lot of places prioritize internal growth which is great, but sometimes the ones you don't expect come in and take it away from the perceived favorite. I'd expect that same to hold true for this job just as much as that $45K job I got at the time.

feels like they're literally talking to anyone and everyone

and obviously some of these HC interviews will be more about potential combinations of coaches and will serve almost as preliminary interviews for coordinator jobs too

but it's fascinating just how many people they're interviewing - by my count we're up to 15 guys on the list...

As I said before, it's very easy for Harbaugh to replicate what he had in Baltimore with a run first approach, you got Kyle Pitts at Tight End and maybe adding Likely in free agency who knows the system. I would be curious to see if he brings Monken with him or looks at someone like Weaver as his DC.

Pitts is a free agent, and also hasnt been very good - basically an ok slot receiver
and they don't have a QB...

Curious: who do you have as your top 2 or 3 choices?
Minter, Kubiak, Stefanski. Probably in that order.
I can live with McDaniel but he wouldn't be at the top.

Of the interviews they've done, I'd have no interest in Kingsbury, Nagy or Joseph.
Of those scheduled, I'd have no interest in Schwartz, Weaver or Scheelhasse. Flores and Saleh are fine but I think we should be aiming higher. I'm not sure Shula or Brady are "serious" interviews.

who havent we interviewed lol???
I'm all for casting a net, but it is quite remarkable to me just how many guys we're interviewing. If you asked me 6 months ago, I'd have said we'd interview maybe 4-5 guys, thinking we already had a list in mind. We're interviewing like John suddenly died and we are scrambling to replace him. Almost like we are taken off guard by it.

Why would we only talk to 4-5 guys? That'd be doing a disservice to the process, especially since everyone that doesn't get Harbaugh is going to await who takes our job most likely.
