They definitely are and feel Beane is the one that should be fired.

I do agree with you, that it is pretty similar to what happened hear. Maybe he listened to Steve B on the press conference, when he was asked, would Harbaugh still be coach if Loop made the FG. "For A Week". Well McDermott got that week because of the interception that ended the final drive in Jacksonville.

Alright, the texts are flowing hot and heavy this morning. Giving my caveat that things are moving so fast... by time I type this out, something could have easily changed.

One of the things they're prioritizing in this search is someone that can connect with the younger players. They feel that was one of the biggest downfalls this year, and probably one of the biggest reasons Harbaugh and Monken are gone. I'm being slightly facetious here, but it sounds like the "you better figure this shit out or you're running laps" mindset was highly ineffective, and they felt that those 2 guys (plus some others) weren't really able to adapt from that mindset they've held for their whole careers. They're looking for someone who can hold these guys accountable, but are also looking for someone that is more of a teacher or is selling the idea of putting more teachers around himself. And my final note on this is that it wasn't necessarily any bad blood in the locker room - just felt like it hit a state where it wasn't connecting.

With that, some of the old heads they've interviewed have kind of ruled themselves out of the gig by having the same mindset. They want something different.

And also related, apparently that's why Davis Webb has them very intrigued. He's young himself, but apparently the vibes in that QB room in Denver are immaculate and he did really well selling himself on how he created that culture. They know it's a risk and feel it may be a tad early for him to ascend that far, but impressive is impressive and they are highly interested.

It sounds like Webb and the 2 OGs (Kubiak and Minter) are the presumptive favorites right now. But they really like a handful of other guys and would like to get a couple of them in the final round to give them a shot to sell themselves in person. They know Zoom and being in a much more controlled environment only tells so much.

On Kubiak specifically, apparently Mike Mac gave him a glowing review, and it's not too dissimilar from the guy Mike Mac is himself. Kubiak isn't some outwardly enthusiastic leader, but he's got a quiet command of his unit and they all know what their responsibilities are.

If accurate, on the defensive side of the ball, I'd think your list is effectively Minter and Shula. Don't think Flores would be a consideration, and I'm not sure Saleh fits that mold either.

Offensively you've got 4-5 guys that fit that mold. Interesting that McDaniel isn't near the top of the list.

Honestly the whole connect with young players is the reason I'm not so sold on harbs to the Giants. Is he really the guy to corral the young lightning personalities they have? I thought Mcdaniel was a better choice there.

I agree with this. There is a blueprint for it though, get a pair of old hand coordinators.

They know there's some associated risk with the idea of Webb, and there's a real question whether it's a year or two too early. But they also are considering the possibility that he's the most likely to have a long, fruitful coaching career. Much like Harbaugh being the odd choice at the time, they aren't afraid to make it IF they're convinced that the right people would be around him.

Sort of depends. If you were in a culture that promoted handling the young players with kid gloves, and it didn't work, you want the change.
I understand the desire to change the culture a bit, but there's no like universally perfect culture that succeeds.

Not that I expect him to win the job, but the Jags DC does have an interesting resume of being successful in a few places, and working under some really good coaches. He's been an assistant to Flores, Fangio, and Jim Harbaugh. Plus has links to the McVay/Shanahan coaching tree.

I feel like the Bills fired mcdermott specifically because they ant to jump on Webb. Webb could come with his college coach of Kingsbury as OC.

But they also are considering the possibility that he's the most likely to have a long, fruitful coaching career. Much like Harbaugh being the odd choice at the time, they aren't afraid to make it IF they're convinced that the right people would be around him.

I mean I guess. The youthful aspect doesn't really matter in the context of those three. Minter is the oldest at 42. He could coach for 20+ years. And I don't think anybody is naive enough to think whoever we hire will be here for 20+ years, regardless of how well they perform.

There's also no clear indication of what type of offense he would prefer to run, if he would call plays at all, etc. And I think he's less likely to be able to attract quality DCs, since he hasn't been in the league long.

If he's supposed to be the "CEO type" but younger, it'd be a hard pass for me.

We have elite FO

The Bills nor Steelers have that going for them in all 3 areas. It probably does put urgency but I don’t want to skip on Kubiak, Webb, Shula, Scheelhauss if they’re great. I doubt we will though

But bills are getting a new stadium built. That’s pretty cool

When I say long career, I'm not talking about age. They're genuinely considering the possibility that he is the most well equipped to have another 18 year HC run.

Other teams seem to be thinking similarly based on the reports of how he's done in his interviews.
