Coaching Carousel 2026

Yeah I think the takeaway from there is , if Monken spring boarded to a HC gig here, imagine what a hot shot kid getting Lamar over the hump can get. Going back to Scheelhaase, why let a "lesser" guy like Doyle run that baby and take all the credit, when there isn't really any more credit to take baby sitting for Mcvay/Stafford.
I'm not sure credit matters in these cases. Teams are always going to be looking at the guys under a McVay or a Shanahan. If you're Scheelhaase in this case, why not ride the coattails? It's highly probable he's getting a HC next cycle unless something disastrous happens. Why forgo something you already know for something you don't?

I know this has been the take here but it hasn’t panned out that way.

Who have we missed out on who’s actually available I.e. changing teams or free agent that’s gone somewhere else

Only guy I can think of is Mike McDaniel but he also signed before minter was hired too

That was my thought too. Mostly it has been strange circumstances that have led to missing out. Like all these OCs getting fired or hired away on the same teams where there is a younger up and comer. Maybe that’s actually not strange circumstance but it is unfortunate.

I'm glad we could keep Randy Brown around. I know everyone is down on Loop but there's no better option for helping him get over that miss. Easy to forget that most people wanted Stout cut this time last year, and now he's a priority re-sign. Randy Brown is a key reason for that.

J-Mint won’t confirm any OC/DC hires as of this moment

But Monken didn't get Lamar "over the hump". Monken got a HC gig because he's had numerous quality offensive outputs with numerous NFL teams.
And because pretty much nobody with any long term aspirations as a HC wants the Browns job.
Greg Roman isn't a HC. He was the OC when Lamar won an MVP and got the #1 seed with the league's best offense too.
If an OC comes here and the Ravens have a top offense with the #1 seed, and they don't win the playoffs, what will they have achieved that they didn't achieve with other OCs?

I digress, slightly but I do. Kubiak and Minter were up for the top jobs, Mike LeFleur is up for Arizona. Yes of course they will get A HC job just sitting on the conveyor belt, but if they want pick of the litter you gotta take some risks as a 1st time head coach and not play calling/full empowerment over your side can be a detriment to that.

Monken is getting credit for advancing Lamar as a passer and leading a top DVOA offense 2/3 years. Taking this team back to that will get any shmoe launched.

That assumes all teams are looking for play callers though, which if this year is any indication, is not always the case. A bunch of guys hired this year that can do that, but that's not the only reason they were hired.

Roman is Roman and was never head coach material and this is a team game. It wasn't just Lamar's fault we weren't in the Super Bowl. If you are going to blame it on Lamar that we didn't get to the Super Bowl, well that is your opinion. He as MVP one season and arguably should have been MVP in two of those seasons.

His last 3 seasons, under Monken, he has had a 134.95 QB Rating (best in league) for intermediate and deep passing totals and for intermediate passing alone, he is by far the best in the league with a 142.53 QB Ratiing. Did he win a super bowl, no unfortunately he didn't, but that doesn't mean he hasn't performed well and improved tremendously in that span.

You can discount these numbers all you want.
