Welcome to Baltimore: Ja'Kobi Lane

Why do you think us and the Giants both went away from Brazzell for 2 guys who struggle to seperate ?

Is it a case of we struggled in the redzone last year and that’s the skillset we targeted. Feel like Ioane and Lane both massively improved us in that area tbf

there's some rumblings that there's some character stuff with brazzell
and also only ran like 3 routes in a mickey mouse offence

Think the thing we’re glossing over is that it’s not a physical, can’t fix it defect. It’s something coachable. Not saying we will fix it, but this at least isn’t one of those where the skills are tapped and he is what he is. A lot of technical things that he can do to open up more.

i do think there's some physical limitations in his ability to sink to decelerate and break outside the vertical plane

At 80 I totally would have taken pregnon, build a wall, set it and forget it, and let Lamar cook.

But I do like the vision with this pick. He is more skilled at making contested catches than anyone in the class, more than anyone we’ve ever drafted, it’s innate with him, the box out, the timing, the body control, the hands catching up high, the length, it’s all crazy and you can’t teach it.

He isn’t stiff, and his movement isn’t labored, if he puts the work in and coaches don’t fail him, he can learn route work well enough to succeed. He doesn’t need to be an elite separator, he needs to get crafty enough to get 1 more step than he currently does, that’s all. Teach him routes like a TE, you’re trying to get an angle on a defender, open a window off the defenders back or out of reach, get a yard deeper so you can highpoint one, etc. he doesn’t need to get wide open, he needs a step, he’s got the movement to learn it.

if he wants to gel with lamar, he needs to be able to work horizontally otherwise he'll just be a sacrificial vertical x at best (and tbh, Tez Walker can do that)

I can agree with that. I don't think this is one where you unlock him and he's Calvin Johnson, but I do think there's still a decently high ceiling there if everything goes right.

If he could be a gameday active WR3 vs WR4 plus RZ specialist, I think we'd all be fine

Looks like they panicked a bit with WR run, but if we end up landing the C they want in rd 4, it should even out.

i think more likely the guys they wanted at other positions got taken

my guess is they were targeting Delp or Haulcy who they had 30 visits with (who got taken at 73 and 77)

i guess my question is, regardless of the coaching staff and scheme, lamar's still got to throw him the ball and we know the kinds of routes and receivers lamar likes to throw to havent typically included Lane and contested fade type routes

unless the vision is for Lane to be able to play as more of a power slot and work vertically that way with more space and less of a sideline to get jammed into

Purely speculating based on what EDC said here, but it seems they've wanted this type of guy for awhile but they've gone the veteran route on a team that has used those veteran WRs sparingly. If they use this guy full time at some point, is that throw a bigger part of the offense at that point? Again, just thinking out loud more than anything.

Looks like Dez really likes him too.
