Around the NFL: News and Rumors

DONTE MONCRIEFWR, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

Steelers waived Donte Moncrief.
Moncrief was a massive bust for Pittsburgh after early-season drops made him a healthy scratch by Week 3. In total, the receiver was targeted 15 times this season, and he only caught four of them for just 18 yards. Only 26, Moncrief will get other chances but he's likely a depth option from this point forward. Diontae Johnson and James Washington will continue to be the secondary options behind JuJu Smith-Schuster for the Steelers.

Steelers would have lost their 3rd round comp for Bell if he was on their roster after week 10. Steelers now keep their 3rd Round Comp.

The nfl wanted the voters to vote on the nominees as an entire block, either they all got in or none of them did.

The voters objected to this, wanting to vote on each candidate individually. So the league changed the voters from an entire group to a select few.

My understanding is it wasn't NFL but actually Hall Of Fame who did this

I know that part, thought someone was referring to Tags, the former commissioner.

JAMAL ADAMSDB, NEW YORK JETS

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Jets asked for Cowboys RG Zack Martin in trade talks for S Jamal Adams.
Adams wound up staying put at last week's trade deadline, though this shows the Jets were certainly amenable to moving him ... for the right price. After labeling Martin off-limits, the Cowboys countered by offering Anthony Brown and a first-round pick for Adams, but apparently that wasn't enough to pique the Jets' interest. The Jets also had an offer on the table from Baltimore, though obviously nothing came of it. Adams will finish out the season in East Rutherford, though Rapoport notes there is "doubt" about his long-term future with the organization. Perhaps the Jets will revisit a potential Adams trade this offseason.

GARDNER MINSHEWQB, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Gardner Minshew has a "chance" to retain the starting job upon Nick Foles' return in Week 11.
With Foles fully expected to return in Week 11 following a broken collarbone suffered in Jacksonville's opener, Minshew will have a lot riding on Sunday's game in London, the Jags' final contest before their Week 10 bye. Alluding to the uncertainty of Jacksonville's quarterback hierarchy, Rapoport said the situation is "up in the air" while adding that it's "no guarantee" Foles returns to his starting job upon his return to active status. A fan favorite and leading Rookie of the Year candidate, Minshew has done a remarkable job in Foles' stead, producing an electric 98.9 quarterback rating in eight appearances while submitting an equally brilliant 13-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. It will be a tough decision for coach Doug Marrone, who must now choose between a wildly popular cultural phenomenon and a former Super Bowl MVP signed to an $88-million contract.

  • QUINNEN WILLIAMSDL, NEW YORK JETS

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Jets rebuffed offers for DT Quinnen Williams despite heavy interest ahead of last week's trade deadline.
Per Schefter, at least one team was infatuated with Williams, "refusing to take no for an answer." Despite that team offering a "blockbuster package" of picks, New York stood its ground, refusing any and all overtures for their prized rookie. The Jets reportedly listened to offers for both Jamal Adams and Le'Veon Bell at the deadline but obviously no one was willing to meet their asking price.

Browns waive S Jermaine Whitehead following his threatening and distasteful comments he posted on Twitter.

JACOBY BRISSETTQB, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Jacoby Brissett has been diagnosed with a sprained left MCL.
He suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh. MCL sprains can sometimes require multi-week absences, though Brissett hasn't been ruled out for Week 10 against Miami. Even with the Dolphins coming off a Week 9 victory, the Colts could probably win this one without him. If Brissett misses time, Brian Hoyer would get the nod at quarterback while practice-squadder Chad Kelly would likely be thrust into a backup role.

Here to say that with less talent and a QB I don't think he wanted, Hue Jackson was fired with a "better" record. That is all.

  • MARK WALTONRB, MIAMI DOLPHINS

ESPN's Cameron Wolfe reports Dolphins RB Mark Walton has been suspended four games for violating NFL conduct and substance abuse policy.
Walton has worked as the Dolphins' featured RB ever since the team traded Kenyan Drake to the Cardinals. Miami is expected to move forward with *throws up in mouth* Kalen Ballage as their three-down back. It certainly wouldn't be surprising if they add to the position in free agency. The Dolphins could also utilize backup RBs Patrick Laird or Myles Gaskin, although neither has a touch this season.

DEAN SPANOS C, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

The Athletic's Vincent Bonsignore reports the Chargers "would listen" if the NFL approached them about relocating to London.
According to Bonsignore, the possibility "has been broached among league personnel" and owners are "concerned enough about the Chargers’ situation in L.A. that they would provide the necessary support for a relocation to London if the Chargers pursue it." Tottenham Hotspur Stadium opened earlier this year with the NFL in mind and hosted two of the four London games this season after the across-the-pond series concluded this past Sunday. It seats over 62,000, and the Chargers are currently playing in a tiny soccer stadium in Carson, Cali. that seats a mere 27,000 where the Chargers are essentially the road team every week as it gets flooded with opposing fans. The Chargers are slated to join the Rams in their new $4.5 billion venue, but L.A. has not embraced the Bolts as it has the Rams. Moving to London would make a whole heck of a lot of sense, as the fans over there have totally embraced the NFL. It would likely require the Chargers switching divisions.

They'd be perpetual 8-8 team, due to jet lag.

I think this is a bad idea and they would be better off moving back to San Diego or another city in the US that actually wants a team.

NFL should have moved the Chargers to Vegas and the Raiders back to LA, would have solved some of the issue they are having. Chargers at least would have had their own state and city to call their own, not sharing it with two other teams and would have been able to develop a new fan base that is strictly their own. In California, they are battling the Raiders and Rams for fans and for as big as a state California is, splitting up a fan base between three teams is a bad idea.

If there is a city in the US, or even Canada if Toronto or Montreal want to jump in then the Chargers and NFL should listen with open ears.

i think if this happens it happens after the new CBA where we maybe have a longer season with more than 1 bye in it - would give a London team the ability to basically have a base in London and a base in the US where they do a stretch of like 4 road games in a row then 4 home games in a row

the home-field advantage would be awesome though from a jet lag standpoint - but they'd still face the same problems of non-partisan crowds for multiple years - chargers arent a big franchise with lots of support in the UK so you'd see lots of non-affiliated fans there
