Around the NFL: News and Rumors

A lot of people liked Hooker in the draft, but I didn't want to draft him because of his injury history. This has of course continued in the NFL.

Colts declined S Malik Hooker's fifth-year team option for 2021.

Hooker has yet to play a full season for the Colts, playing in 34 of a potential 48 games. Just last season, Hooker dealt with hand, knee and foot injuries. His name was also floated as a possible trade candidate by former NFL executive Michael Lombardi ahead of the draft. When on the field, Hooker lives up to his draft billing in a free safety role. The Colts have plenty of cap space available in 2021, so if Hooker produces a healthy and quality 2020 season, he could cost Indy a hefty price in the form of a long-term contract. As Field Yates points out, among 2017 first-round picks: 17 were picked up, 13 were declined, one player was extended and one was outright released.

ay..he has that gift but just not the physical one to bring it every week. He's still young obviously, worth looking at his progress this year

Drug Test him ASAP.

Im not sure though. They got rid of Coughlin and seem to do smart things now. Shipped Foles out of town for a pick, whereas Newton and Dalton had to be released. Didn't exercise 5th year option on Fournette. Drafted relatively smart.

The Jaguars have signed veteran QB.... Mike Glennon. Apparently the Jags are very behind Gardner Minshew and told QBs who they wanted to bring in, the only job available was backup as Minshew is entrenched as the starter for 2020.

the fall of kris richard in perception from unquestioned soon to be HC to currently unemployed in the NFL is wild - and this is a pretty damning indictment from a former player

richard came from that seattle system too which (as we're finding out) is incredibly simple to run and diagnose and requires the players on defence always win their matchup - the scheme itself is rudimentary and does very little to help out the players in that unit - it's why no one from that defensive system has managed to rediscover that magic elsewhere because it required elite talent all over the defence (and especially on the backend) to make it work

but everywhere where there hasnt been elite talent that defensive simplicity has led to pretty awful defences that are less than the sum of their parts: see Dallas, Atlanta, jacksonville, LA (chargers), the pre-gruden raiders

i cant think of anywhere post-legion of boom that any of the coordinators and coaches from that defence have had any success implementing that scheme

it fundamentally relied on the elite play of Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas (who as a duo might be the best safety tandem in recent memory), richard sherman on the backend (accompanied by a long and physical press corner on the other side - byron maxwell/brandon browner type) and then a pretty dominant front 7 with bobby wagner and kj wright, michael bennett, frank clark, bruce irvin, cliff avril

Apparently Seahawks twitter is freaking out about the rumor.

Supposedly, Garrett for KJ Wright, a 2nd and a 6th.

That's a great deal for the Hawks

Jerry Jones is stupid enough to give Dak that much money, so if Dak agrees this will happen. Honestly I'd let him play on the tag, let him hit free agency next year and make a big trade up for Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields. But I'm not running the Cowboys.

These uniforms are not very good.

They are ok but they need to fire the person who thought it was a good idea to showoff a new blue jersey in front of a blue background.

Dan Orlovsky said on 1053 The Fan that the arguments we see on First Take and other sports debate shows are.... FAKE and contrived for TV.
