Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Mcadoo gone
but Jerry Reese has also been fired - giants doing the comprehensive house cleaning that they probably should have done weeks ago

Yeah about time. Should have been done when he suggested to bench Eli. Bet this creates a domino effect with John Fox, Pagano and others being fired so the Giants won't get too far ahead in the coaching search.

pagano has been touted as gone for like 3 years in a row - maybe now with a new GM he finally does get fired
John Fox has to be gone though
Hue Jackson could be gone too by my reckoning (although if haslam is smart he keeps that entire regime for 1 more year even if they go 0-16)

Hue Jackson is my top choice for an OC if he gets fired tbh. He's proven to be effective elsewhere.

Fox is gone. But given that the ownership of the bears is terrible someone worse will replace him.

Pagano is probably gone. If he and the others on the colts coaching staff is fired I'd also like Chudzinsky or whatever his name is as the OC here.

I also expect the whole Money Ball experiment to be done in Cleveland and it could be another house cleaning, though there is a report that Hue if he stays next year wants more control if he is still coach of the Browns. Yeah wouldn't mind Pagano back as a defensive assistant.

i dont see how they dont give the brown and podesta 1 more year - they'll have the number 1 pick and another likely top 10 pick that they acquired for the browns in a great qb class - it doesnt make sense not to let them see out what looked obviously like a 3 year rebuild - 2 years is not enough to turn a franchise as dead as the browns around - now if they flop next year then you have to say they are gone but give them one more offseason i think

Well here's the thing with that. Hue Jackson wanted Carson Wentz in the 2016 Draft, the moneyball front office passed on him saying he wouldn't be a top 20 quarterback in the league. This front office has traded themselves out of 2 potential franchise quarterbacks, Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson. Moneyball has been about gathering as many picks as possible, quantity over quality. I'm actually surprised they didn't pass on Myles Garrett and let someone else take him just so they can gather more picks.

that's the narrative around the league from non-"moneyball" guys but the carson wentz one is the egregious problem because of how differently they evaluated him - but very few teams in the league were sure about deshaun watson and they ended up with david njoku and jabrill peppers and myles garrett all in the 1st round who all look like they will be mainstays of this browns team for a while... i think that's the only legitimate criticism of this front office is the wentz "miss" - i dont see what the browns gain from getting rid of this front office after the first 2 years of the regime - bad teams fire people before they can finish the job - all the teams that have turned it around the last few years have had patience - the impatient teams are the ones that suck...

if im haslam i dont change anything about this front office staff for 1 more year and let them finish the job the way reggie mckenzie was allowed to

Money ball did one really stupid thing in trading back and not taking Wentz (especially with the benefit of hindsight) but they've actually made some really nice draft picks. Last draft a whole looks like a nice haul, especially Njoku and Garrett. They're not gonna be fired. Especially since they might be prime contenders for a Josh Rosen... Josh Rosen behind that offensive line, with a decent WR corps.... Fucking terrifying in the long run. And if they're canned immediately that just shows that Haslem is a horrible owner.

i agree 100% - as long as they dont somehow manage to lose that number 1 pick they are getting either darnold or rosen (whichever one they prefer or whichever one comes out) and they are gonna ride that rookie qb who will have time, a 2nd year athletic weapon at tight end, an decent running back room, and potentially a good looking wr corps + maybe a top 10 pick in the draft (if they draft offence with that pick) - and they have some talent on defence too now as well - i saw some of the browns game this week and danny shelton (i realise he was a pre-moneyball pick) played well and larry ogunjobi had some good penetration as well as carl nassib being pretty solid, myles garrett is a superstar and ogbah looks great too and behind them is jabrill peppers, jamie collins, christian kirksey

they have the bones of a good team in there - and one primed to be a competitor with a few additions - obviously the main addition is a qb at number 1

Regardless of their current QB situation, something is still seriously wrong - either all that talent people speak of is very overrated or they need to drop entire coaching structure. Really talented team should be able to pull at least some Ws

More picks isn’t that great when you don’t have a front office that is able to make the picks

i guess we'll find out - but ive had good will towards the browns the last couple of years and sacking this regime after 2 years and not letting it attempt to finish it's reconstruction of the roster would negate all that good will and would confirm to me that jimmy haslam doesnt want to own a football team, only a tyre fire

I disagree, they did draft a few good players, it could have been better though. I think they should get s new regime to make the rest of their picks.

i disagree, they've compiled strong elements of a roster with promising/burgeoning players at key positions on both offence and defence - no one should be expected to turn a trainwreck of a team like cleveland around in 2 years - 3 seems to be a legitimate period - look at how oakland and jacksonville were doing after 2 years and how they suddenly looked promising in year 3 after keeping their "maligned" front office - i do think they need/should really consider a coaching change because they dont have the worst roster in the NFL at all but somehow cant even fall into more than 1 win in their last 28 games - that's ridiculous and nothing to do with talent at all

for me it makes no sense not to finish this front office project they have going - all the best players on their team have come from this new regime and there are only 1 or 2 holdovers from previous front offices which tells you all you need to know about the talent they had before - i realise it seems extra critical because they have the 1st pick in a strong (looking) qb draft but fear should not be driving anyone in that organisation's decision making
