Around the NFL: News and Rumors

the NFL won't allow gambling in games they are actually calling. They will still have to hide this.

Oh of course - officials and players should not be legally allowed to gamble on their sport ever (that’s a rule implemented in other sports around the world)

I meant that the awful takes about players/refs throwing the games are gonna be unbearable now

David Tepper is set to buy the Panthers at a cost between $2.1B and $2.5B.
I literally can't fathom having anywhere close to that much money. I know there's more too it than that but that's freaking insane.

i cant wait for all of these sorts of takes after crappy calls every week - itll only deflect more from the real issue which is that the level of officiating is awful all around

also its another culture shock for me but until recently i never even realised sports gambling was illegal in the US

I'm just curious if not this season but down the line, because of it being legal that the NFL will have it's own Ref Betting Scandal to deal with much like the NBA did years ago.

i doubt it - the NFL is gonna be terrified of this so the incentive to cheat is gonna be high - if a lot of unexplained betting happens the bookie's will report it and stop the bets and if match fixing does apparently occur the punishments are going to disincentivize it ever happening again - its not a perfect system but when the viewership is larger and the market is bigger the less likely it is for match fixing to happen especially given how large the in-play side of betting has become in other sports

ill say this - expect the advertising to look a lot different in commercial breaks

Me either. I know people say don't take the lump sum on the off chance you win the lottery and go with the annual payments, but I'm like I don't need all the lottery money just enough to not have to worry about working ever again.

It's interesting reading the Panthers forums as they discuss Tepper and some do have concerns since he doesn't have a Carolina connection when it comes to whether the team would move, etc. Just from reading their forums, one of the potential buyers wanted to look at a new stadium in South Carolina which turned into North Carolina vs South Carolina debates.

I think I read that he wants to keep the team where they are at so they'll be fine probably.

Reuben Foster's accuser has testified that he didn't strike her and that she did it to ruin him.

“I was threatening Reuben . . . that I was going to f–k up his career,” Ennis said. She added that she called 911 three separate times in order to ensure that Foster would be in major trouble. “I wanted to be extra,” Ennis said. “I wanted him to go down. I was pissed.”

Ennis said she was reacting to Foster’s effort to break up with her. “I told him I’m going to f–k your shit up and make sure you don’t have a job tomorrow,” Ennis said. Ennis testified that there was a financial angle to it. "It was all a money scheme,” Ennis said. “I didn’t want to get this far in the news. It was about money.”

What does she mean by 'f--k'?

The prosecution needs to get Michael Avenetti to go obtain Foster's bank account records.

crazy that it'll be in florida 2 years consecutively...

All warm weather or dome cities too. Guess the cold weather experiment in NY/NJ a few years back was just a one time thing. Was hoping to see more cold weather cities get opportunities. Then again the NFL changed the way they select the Super Bowl host site, no longer do cities place bids as the NFL now chooses what cities they want it to be in and puts it to a vote with the owners. So I fully expect dome and warm weather cities to dominate going forward.
