Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Ozzie just denied a request from Packers GM Gutekunst to hire scout Milt Hendrickson as a assistant GM.
btw: did we hire already new scouts like Biscotti promised?

not sure but if we do it's most likely going to happen soon enough - scout contracts normally are scheduled to end just after the draft so renewals and new hires happen around this time

interesting that Ozzie just denied that request but important that we don't leach one of the last few remaining senior scouts we've had who's been in this organisation a long time - maybe Hendrickson is about to find himself on the end of a payrise and another promotion (he was promoted only a couple of offseasons ago)

then again it sounds like his contract is up at the end of next year so if Hendrickson wants to go he may just go next year - would be weird to block that move in that case unless ozzie is just making sure that the room isnt completely new for Decosta's first offseason as GM

idk

Just go get him FFS. He's a good player and actually an ideal compliment to CJ. He'd make our defense a lot better.
Weird moment to release him:

New Eagles LB Paul Worrilow has torn ACL

Eagles LB Paul Worrilow has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will miss the 2018 season.

Worrilow was a mere depth signing in April, but his loss is a blow for a team that just released Mychal Kendricks on Tuesday. Worrilow, who was a part-time player for the Lions last season, turned 28 earlier this month. The Eagles should be in the market for linebacker help.

Eagles might be going for Bowman. They already have a pretty good coverage LB in Bradham so Bowman might be a better fit tbh. I get it

Haha what a joke this new helmet rule is. Al Rivereon was asked if a defensive linemen who comes out of his stance and initiates contact with his head would be penalized. So the basics of football and the three point stance is what these players have been taught since they started playing. Now the NFL essentially has made it a penalty.

"Can't do it. He's got to get his head up."

they saved 6m by designating him post june-1st... that's the only reason kendricks was cut

NFL Owners have approved the new Kickoff Rules which means no more running starts for the kicking team, no more 2 player wedge blocks, and no blocking within the first 15 yards. 8 of the 11 players on the Kickoff team will now begin a kickoff in a 15 yard zone near midfield, opposed to the old rule of starting wherever they wanted. Also players no longer have to touch the ball or kneel for a touchback as once it reaches the end zone it is automatically ruled a touchback.

Jets trade QB Christian Hackenberg to the Raiders for a conditional 7th Round Pick in 2019. Gruden at one point said he would be shocked if Hackenberg didn't go in the first round... thankfully they have Derek Carr because Gruden is terrible at evaluating quarterbacks.

Hunter Henry: suspected torn ACL

Non-contact injury when untouched running downhill

We’ve had an inordinate share of injuries the last few years but the chargers aren’t far behind

Sports can be cruel

I was just about to post this in the injury thread but this works too. Sucks for the Chargers, they seem to have just as bad as luck with injuries as we have had. Brady & Gronk are sitting at home avoiding the Pats OTAs, see this and go... this is why we aren't at the OTAs.

For some reason, I thought they were WORSE than us with injuries.

Depends on the year, depends on how you quantify

Either way they have suddenly lost a significant piece of their offence who was poised to take another major leap after looking incredible at times last year

You’ve got to feel for the chargers - they’ve been losing young guys that they were hoping to count on multiple years in a row

Sucks for the average nfl fan too because the chargers were figuring to be a majorly fun team to watch on both sides of the ball - I’m not sure they have a tight end room anymore...

They said they were moving on from Antonio gates finally but do they maybe now approach him to come back just one more time?

I remember the 2015 game against them when both of our rosters got destroyed mid game. We were both injured coming into the game but I'm pretty sure a total of 9-10 players got hurt during that game. I know that was the one Steve Smith Sr got hurt in and I think that was the one Keenen Allen got murked in. (Could have been 2014 but still we are both cursed)

We challenged the Chargers for the most cursed team in the league. The Chargers are showing us how it's done.

I’m in favor for standing for the National anthem but passing a rule forcing people or be penalized is fucking stupid. The NFL has far bigger fish to fry than the kneeling. Anyone who thinks the kneeling is the big reason they’re losing fans has no ability to think big picture whatsoever or is a sheep. The nfl’s ratings were on the fucking decline before Kaepernick decided to kneel. People are once again missing the point and everyone is acting like a total moron. The nfl is too dumb to realize that this is only going to make the problem worse or do nothing in the grand scheme of thing. They decided to alienate the other party... meaning even if they regain the old fans, they’ll lose just as many on the other side. This is a net 0 situation.

Does Goddell have any business acumen? At all?

Fucking idiots

this decision has been made solely to appease the owners themselves - in the process they've alienated the players, given more credence to Kaep's case (and eric reid's), put the issue back in the news, created a very real possibility of a class action (i could envision the NFLPA not being happy about this - even though the players can opt out of being on the field for the national anthem)

i just dont see what the owners gain from this outside of visibly flexing their muscles towards the players union

Moves like this make me really hope the reborn XFL is successful and the NFL loses some of their audience drawing players. Maybe then the owners will realize how dumb of a move this is. I seriously doubt it happens though.
