The NFL has DEFENDED the Clay Matthews penalty and has said that play and the similar hit by Vikings LB Eric Kendricks will be USED in a teaching tape that reiterates the "scoop and pull" technique is a foul. The Official in the game, Tony Corrente came out and said that the rule of no body weight on a player wasn't the issue. It was the fact that Clay and I quote, "picked the quarterback up and drove him into the ground". Um...... Matthews did no such thing.
Matthews has come out and said penalties are out of control, Mike McCarthy said Matthews was doing what he was coached to do and didn't know why the flag was thrown. Zimmer came out and said the reason scoring is so high is because of the things they are calling. "It's an offensive league".

I’ll just say this now: if the two hits on the QB in
#MINvsGB are indeed fouls for roughing the passer, I am glad that I am no longer on the field and have to make those calls.
