Around the NFL: News and Rumors

In the unexpected Coach Firing News:

Broncos will part ways with Vance Joseph according to PFT. Elway considered firing him last year and bringing back Mike Shanahan but changed his mind. The new coach Elway hires in 2019 will be his FOURTH hired since taking over football operations in Denver back in 2011.

If he has to fire that many coaches you have to wonder if he's any good at hiring in the first place.

LOL

Nathan Peterman - QB - Raiders

Raiders signed QB Nathan Peterman.

While still working for ESPN then, coach Jon Gruden called Peterman the most pro-ready quarterback in the 2017 draft class, one that also included Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. Gruden thought Peterman should go "no lower than the second round." He went in the fifth and has been one of the worst quarterbacks in NFL history through his first two seasons.
You'd think at some point, he decide he just can no longer embarrass himself.

Maybe he's just decided that he'll hold a clipboard to get paid and then retire on the spot of the starter gets hurt

it's literally so unprecedented that Ron Rivera literally responded to it by saying if he saw his name picked that many times he'd go and pick up a lottery ticket straight away
Hell I would too. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't know how someone can say that this isn't intentional and it is random. It's laughable.

Edit: The last quote in the following article is a very interesting one: "I perceive that the league is full of you-fill-in-the-blank," Reid said. "I wish I could see y'all's faces when, or if, what I know becomes public from this (collusion) lawsuit."

you're being sarcastic right?

That was a typo about the unexpected news, I meant to say expected news. But no Elway hiring his fourth head coach is definitely not sarcastic. If he was not John Elway he would have been fired before hiring his third coach.

It feels weird not having a Thursday Night Football game tonight. Though that did give me extra time to work on a special preview of this weekend's games. A Flashback of sorts.

Even though I despise the patsies I feel bad for Josh Gordon. Such a talented guy who for whatever reason just can’t keep it together.

also this from the NFL is transparent and ridiculous:

https://twitter.com/E_Reid35/status/1074886971120607232?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1074886971120607232&ref_url=http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25580285/new-england-patriots-receiver-josh-gordon-says-stepping-away-focus-mental-health

this is so mathematically improbable and of course it would happen to eric reid who has an active grievance against the NFL - they're literally just looking for any reason beyond collusion that he wouldnt be on a team and it seems they really want him to fail a "random" drugs test

7 times in a season is unprecedented... like it's mathematically possible but incredibly unlikely
This almost seems like entrapment

Report: Le'Veon Bell wants to sign with Colts

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports Le'Veon Bell wants to sign with the Colts this offseason.

"He has his eyes on the Colts, no doubt about that," a source told Vacchiano. "He sees Andrew Luck and that offense and all that cap room. He wants to go someplace he can win right away." The Jets are expected to make a run at Bell, but the interest may not be mutual. With Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines both cost controlled, we don't see the Colts as a good fit for Bell, but there's going to be no shortage of suitors this offseason. Bell is targeting $17 million annually.

If he wants that type of money he may have to do 1 yr deals like Revis did and shop his talents.

As long as he goes to an NFC team, I'm good.

I wish all the worst to the team prepared to shell out that kind of money for RB.
That’s why I really wanted him to resign with Pit. Yeah he’s really good but 17 mil for a RB fucks up the cap space for the rest of the team especially considering RBs are not worth that whatsoever

Black Monday is going to be a very busy Monday. It is expected that 5-7 MORE teams are considering Head Coaching changes. We already have two Head Coach vacancies so that's a lot of new coaches. Also league sources expect Tampa to make a run at Ron Rivera if the Panthers were to fire him.

Potential hot spots continue to be Arizona, Tampa Bay, Carolina, the Jets, Miami, Cincinnati, Denver, Jacksonville, and maybe Washington. It would be unlikely for that many jobs to come open, and the precise number will be driven largely by the next two games

So Full Week 17 looks like this:

1:00PM:

Raiders @ Chiefs*
Dolphins @ Bills
Lions @ Packers
Jets @ Patriots
Panthers @ Saints
Cowboys @ Giants
Falcons @ Buccaneers
Jaguars @ Texans

4:25PM:

Chargers @ Broncos
49ers @ Rams
Bears @ Vikings
Bengals @ Steelers
Cardinals @ Seahawks
Eagles @ Redskins

Sunday Night Football:
Colts @ Titans

That’s cool - pats and Texans will have played before us so we’ll know if we’re fighting for the 4th, 3rd or 2nd seed at that point
