Around the NFL: News and Rumors

per Schefter

LE'VEON BELLRB, NEW YORK JETS

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Le'Veon Bell is not expected to be traded before Tuesday's deadline.
The Jets tried to create a Bell trade market, but as was the case during free agency, they were the only team interested. Coach Adam Gase and his front office have come at Tuesday's deadline with a "plan" that seems completely incoherent. It would be far from surprising if the Jets moved on from Bell next offseason. Gase has been obsessed with making it clear he had no interest in signing the bell-cow back.

  • JAMAL ADAMSDB, NEW YORK JETS

The Athletic's Connor Hughes confirms the Cowboys are interested in Jets SS Jamal Adams.
It goes beyond that, with ESPN's Ryan Clark reporting Adams badly wants to play for his hometown team. "I know he wants to play there. I know he wants to go home," Clark said on TV Tuesday. "This is from speaking to him." The Athletic reports the Jets are seeking "a lot … a whole lot." It doesn't make any sense that he's on the block in the first place, so the Jets better secure a king's ransom if they let one of their building blocks go.

  • TRENT WILLIAMST, WASHINGTON REDSKINS

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Browns have "lukewarm" interest in holdout Redskins LT Trent Williams.
That's probably because the Redskins aren't actually interested in moving Williams, with NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reporting they are making ludicrous demands like CB Denzel Ward. A Williams/Browns deal would make all the sense in the world for both sides, but it appears the Redskins would rather punish Williams than try to make their football team better.

Jamal Adams on twitter:
Any reports of me asking to be traded from the New York Jets are completely false.

At the end of the week last week, I sat down with the GM and Coach Gase and told them I want to be here in New York. I was told yesterday by my agent that the GM then went behind my back and shopped me around to teams, even after I asked him to keep me here! Crazy business.

Rich Eisen in response to that post:
Hang in there. Jets fans adore you. I know many who will read and comment on this might feel differently but no better place to win than in New York.

Connor Hughes twitter with comments from Joe Douglas:
Douglas: “My message was clear. Jamal Adams is a stud. We are not interested in moving him.” Said teams kept calling #Jets about him

Dan Hanzus on twitter:
I get LOLJets and all that, but what was so egregious about listening to an interested team? I guess you should hang up the phone out of respect for the player? Is that how you run a successful team? Again, LOLJets. It seems fun. But seems counterproductive to stonewall a team.

so either someone's lying, something's been lost in translation, there's different factions with different ideas in the organisation or a combination of all 3 going on at the jets

i tend to think douglas isnt an idiot and from form i tend to think jamal adams isnt lying so...

my guess is there's some agents trying to manoeuvre into some money etc. and also some differing factions inside the jets

I disagree on one point - you say it is the same schtick as he played here, but he never would have said anything like that here. When we did poorly, he put it on himself. Well, you could argue that it was because he played poorly, but he owned his bad performances.

This to me was very un-Joe like. I wish he would have held his tongue. He was right from a logic standpoint, but you don't voice that publicly. If you know the writing is on the wall for you and you're not happy about it, you still have to just let it quietly run its course.

I just don't want to see that be his swan song but make no mistake - he needs to call it a career. So if he is run out of Denver, then this could be his last act as an NFL player.

The "stick" that I speak of is his gameplay! His gameplay, NOT what he said! His gameplay is the same in Denver as it was here to me. Nothing new!

Sorry usually schtick implies your stage act that commentary was totally out of character.

No doubt it was time to move on for us and it’s awesome we have someone like Lamar to move on to. We’d given Joe all the benefit if the doubt we could give. Glad we got draft compensation in the process.

What a jerk. Mayfield getting pissed off at the local media

to add some context - this reporter is someone who repeatedly has been in arguments and spats with baker - there was bad blood in this exchange before the exchange - its not like he went off on any old someone

I know what the word schtick means and implies but my non-technical and casual use of that word on a sports forum still stands!

Joe's "schtick" here in Baltimore was that he was TRASH! I've witnessed it over television and MULTIPLE live games at M&T Bank Stadium up close and personal over the past 11 years! And, his "schtick" there in Denver is playing out the same way! He's TRASH!

It's no secret that Joe has NEVER EVER been my guy or cup of tea as our QB whatsoever. Sure, I'm grateful for the multiple playoff wins and SB run that he was a part of, way back in 2012 but once the man got paid, he rested on those laurels and have regressed more and more. I'm not surprised by the events in Denver whatsoever. Kinda expected it to be honest!

that being said, he could have handled it better.

You are being a mashugana!

sure - but baker's baker and this is part of who he is - a little bit of an asshole mixed in with an interesting genuine and unapologetic character - and you know what he owns up to it - i dont like that he's on the browns but i do like him and hope he personally succeeds because the nfl is a more interesting place with him in it (as a qb on and off the field)
