Around the NFL: News and Rumors

I think it's a good hire for them but man Rivera should of held out for a better job. I think Rivera would have fitted nicely in Jacksonville.
he would have fit nicely in Jacksonville, but Rivera wanted to make a quick decision as well and Bruce Allen is being fired / forced to retire as well. At the very least he could still be in the organization but out of football operations.

It's a damn good hire by Dan Snyder, if I don't say so myself. Now to the losing...

"Wilson new exactly where he was, hence why he should be MVP" Collinsworth

"Wilson is 4'10" and that is why he should be MVP" Collinsworth

Looks like Panthers TE Greg Olsen could be leaning toward retirement, and it should be noted he has called games for FOX during the Panthers BYE week the past couple years. Wouldn't be surprised if he joined FOX for 2020.

GREG OLSENTE, CAROLINA PANTHERS

Speaking after the Panthers' Week 17 loss to the Saints, 34-year-old Greg Olsen said "sometimes the writing's on the wall."
In what is looking like his final game as a Panther, Olsen caught 2-of-6 targets for 12 yards. Olsen was held out of the second half, and given a thundering ovation with 1:56 remaining. Olsen finally got over his debilitating foot issues to appear in 14-of-16 games this season, going on to post a solid 52/597/2 slash. That line is more impressive in the context of Olsen's football soulmate Cam Newton making just two starts. If Olsen does indeed retire, he will be finishing his career in the top 10 for tight end receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns.

Panthers plan to interview Baylor Head Coach Matt Rhule. It should be noted that the Panthers have also interviewed Mike McCarthy TWICE already. They also plan on interviewing Josh McDaniels too.

david tepper interviewing everyone i think just to make sure
surprised that he didnt get rid of marty hurny too

Fun Fact: Due to the Panthers & Redskins finishing in fourth place, the Panthers head to Washington next year and play the Redskins. Meaning Rivera will get a shot at beating the Panthers next year.

After what he did to the Colts, fuck him.
Look like the Browns have also requested permission to interview McDaniels.

You would think his stunt with pulling out at the last minute in Indy would cause teams to be reluctant but some will see past it and view him as a hot commodity.

If I were one of these teams I’d want no part of him but hope someone takes him. One less job for our coordinators lol

The Cleveland job will be interesting. Candidates having to weigh the pro of inheriting an undeniably talented roster vs the con of joining a diseased organization

I’m wondering if the Browns won v Cards and Bengals (and maybe played us a bit closer) if they’d have considered keeping Kitchens? If so too bad it didn’t work out that way.

Shurmur fired - gettleman apparently safe per rapsheet

although schefter has suggested that in both the browns and giants jobs, the incoming HC would have input on whether the GM stays (seems odd)

Garrett's likely not getting a new contract - but it ends on the 14th of Jan so he likely gets fired even though he's only got half a month left on his contract lol - got a team meeting around noon and then a meeting with the Joneses - i expect he'll be fired but you never really know

so we're up to:
Redskins, Panthers, Browns, Giants

no official word on the jags yet i dont think

EDIT: per the above GM stuff - john mara has come out and said gettleman is the GM in 2020

Skins are pretty much out of the running, since Rivera is going to be announced as HC.
