This is why passing yards is such a meaningless stat....... Top 3 Passing Leaders at the end of the season, yet none of them are playing in the playoffs.

suggests they are trailing a lot and compiling passing yards because they are behind in games...
would be my only thoughts regarding causality etc.

that would be in bad faith - would be making decisions for your employees and not a good look - on what basis could you justify limiting their opportunities?
My issue is that our season's ongoing and I don't want coaching interviews to fuck with preparations during our postseason run (and one look at the 49ers of the early 2010s tells you there's never a guarantee of future runs). Once we're done I don't like the idea of blocking coaches from interviews precisely for the reason you mentioned - it's classless and unprofessional on our part.

What are the rules these days on interviewing coaches from teams that are still alive? I know it used to be that interviews weren't allowed until that coach's team was done for the season, but is that still the case?

No surprise. We would never stand in the way of a member of the staff getting promoted elsewhere. Harbaugh has said this many times before

interviews are allowed during the bye week (i.e. this week) but not until after the superbowl - maybe special dispensation can be available during the pro bowl week but i dont think that's technically open

so its literally just this week that playoff team coaches can be interviewed

and if a 1 day interview during a bye week screws up our preparations during the run then clearly the preparations were bad anyway - not worried about anyone on this team losing any focus given the way that this locker room has been all year so far - harbs is awesome at centring this team

That's not too bad then. I was thinking prep time more than focus would be the big issue because the extra week can be good for devising new plays, but a couple of days when we don't know who our opponent is yet shouldn't derail our postseason too badly (if at all).

I don't imagine the Pro Bowl week would be given any special dispensation. The NFL would probably assume that every coach at every level is working flat-out for every day of those two weeks trying to get every small advantage for the Super Bowl, and the idea that anything might tip the balance even slightly for it would be unpalatable for everyone involved in making the rules.

In that case I agree that the cost of blocking coaches from interviews far outweighs the benefits. That's part of what makes the Ravens an attractive place for other coaches to work.

yeah and im pretty sure that most of the interviews are for coaches still in the playoffs normally are completed by wednesday or thursday so it doesnt even get close to the weekend normally

@RavensMania was saying that there is a day next week when some coaches can be interviewed (my assumption is that would be monday or tuesday) but i think that's just for coaches who were coaching on wildcard weekend (which made them unavailable this week)

this is correct. I seem to recall coaches having interviews during that week.

@JAAM , has your hope been revitalized? Reinvigorated? Reborn?
Oh my!!! Come home, Yannick!!! Especially after they picked up Von’s option. I think we’ll sign one big free agent this offseason, and Yannick could be that guy

not if we sign Judon. I think most free agents will be mid tier signings and even with the money we have, we have to be careful with it over the next few years so we can sign our most important guys and have money for quality depth.

Browns fired GM John Dorsey.
The Browns were apparently trying to get Dorsey to agree to a reduced role, which almost always results in a "parting of ways." Dorsey spent barely two years on the job, but it was an eventful time as he engorged on Sashi Brown's stockpiled cap space and draft picks cache. The results were 7-8-1 and 6-10 campaigns as Dorsey flailed in his attempt to build around Baker Mayfield. A calculated risk that backfired was Dorsey's promotion of interim OC Freddie Kitchens to head coach. A reckless risk that exploded in his face was failing to address the offensive line. "Chief strategy officer" Paul DePodesta is expected to have a big say in finding Dorsey's replacement. The Browns are said to be enamored with ex-Cleveland exec and current Eagles man Andrew Berry.

YANNICK NGAKOUEDL, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell said it's "priority No. 1" this offseason to re-sign impending free agent DE Yannick Ngakoue.
Three months shy of his 25th birthday, Ngakoue reached eight sacks for the fourth time in as many NFL seasons. He was No. 2 on the team in quarterback takedowns behind first-rounder Josh Allen. Young pass rushers like Ngakoue always command a pretty penny on the open market. The franchise tag will be a possibility.
