Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Finally, number 4, vaccines aren't just about the individual person getting them. By having a high percentage of the population you prevent the general spread, and the mutation of the virus. Even if an individual person would have been okay, there's a chance they passed by someone in the store or elsewhere that wouldn't be. It protects everyone that might have issues with the virus, including many that wouldn't even know it (as there are a number of seemingly healthy, in their prime people that have ended up in the hospital).

this is the real key re: vaccination

there are people who are clinically vulnerable who cannot have the vaccine - like those on various cancer treatments

the only way to protect those people properly is by having high uptake from everyone else - so this idea that it doesn't matter because "some folks don't need them" misses the whole point of how herd immunity works in public health terms - you get the vaccine to protect those around you as much as you do it to protect yourself

that being said he makes a good point about outpatient care - but it must also be pointed out that a number of therapeutic treatments for covid have been created, tested and made available for use in the last few months alone

but i do reiterate - the vast majority of hospitalisations around the world are unvaccinated - it is clear that the easiest way to mitigate poor outcomes from covid is to vaccinate as many people as possible

but i also think the way governments and populations should advocate for mass vaccination has been really awful - there's been this looming threat of vaccine passports and vaccine mandates when we know that negative strategies are far less convincing than positive strategies based around rewards - the easiest way to decrease vaccine hesitancy is to further reward people for getting it not to make life harder for those who dont

that being said you do have to have some different protocols for different people in different scenarios based on various risk factors (including vaccine status) but having easier protocols to follow is clearly not enough of an incentive to get vaccinated

but it's also overstated how much of an issue it is in the NFL just because some unvaccinated figures have been very loudly decrying how unfair it is when something like 85% of the players and 100% of all tier 1 and tier 2 non-playing personnel are all vaccinated - which is much higher than the general population basically anywhere in the world

Couple things to point out, for 10, mandates have been good for the polio vaccine and the tetanus vaccine, among others that kids have to get to get into school. I don't see how a mandate for covid is different or worse. And for something this wide spread and mutating, especially with the delta variant, the mandates are generally a good thing for society. Hell, we've seen this work in other countries where the population did get vaccinated as soon as it was available.
In general, vaccines are not some silver bullet that's gonna end covid. It's a part of our world now. It's about society hedging its bets; improving the odds for everyone across the board. It's about giving everyone a lower chance of getting it, milder symptoms, and a lower time they can spread it. Possibly even more important, with less of a spread there's also less mutations. With a high enough percentage of the general population being vaccinated we can move on to covid just being just a simple annoyance.

And note, not saying any of this to attack you.

No worries brother , you make some fair points.

I do not think Polio and Sars Cov-2 are comparable as a virus or vaccine. Example: Polio vaccine can eradicate the virus ( and has type 2), COVID-19 vaccine can not. Side note , what a damn shame polio still exist when we have the means to get rid of it.

Totally agree about the silver bullet portion. Why I get my shots and equally important, take care of my body. We focus way to much on the magic pill rather than hard work and practice discipline that comes with taking care of ourselves. My fellow Americans are incredibly unhealthy and it’s disgusting. Something like 46% are obese. WTF folks. Regular exercises and a whole food based diet does amazing things for the body.

Would be nice if we could have an honest conversation about COVID without folks attacking each other and the realizing it’s not quite so black and white as each side would like you to believe.

1. COVID 19 is very dangerous for many people
2. COVID 19 is not dangerous for many people
3. Vaccinations will save lives
4. Vaccinations are not the end all be all, some folks don’t need them.
5. SARS Cov-2 will be on this planet for a very long time, even if you vaccinate the entire world.
6. Outpatient treatments are just as if not more important than impatient. Yet we have very little, the answer is always vaccination. Vaccination doesn’t prevent you from getting the virus, hence the need for outpatient treatments.
7. Lets admit to the hypocrisy of our handling of this virus nearly two years into it. Example , protocols in the NFL say vaccinated players only require one test per week. What??? We know a vaccinated individual can contract and pass along the virus , why not test every day if your really worried about the player safety? O by the way, they won’t cancel Saturday’s game with the Browns because it’s an empty Saturday, no college football, and a chance for them to get max viewership and dollars.
8. It’s ok to be skeptical of a highly politicized vaccine, doesn’t mean you have to be to a conspiracy theory Facebook doctor and start discrediting modern medicine , which is god damn amazing.
9. It’s hard for people to admit but, natural exposure to the virus is a good thing for the vast majority of us. Most doctors now agree(from what i read), natural exposure+ vaccination produce the strongest antibodies. That’s probably why i could to fucking Disney world and lighting games literally every weekend but never get sick. I got my flu and COVID -19 vaccine and all while being exposed to that shit on the reg. Side note: I heard from a friend that some networks are reporting Florida is falling apart because of COVID. Not true , we’ve been cool for a long time now. Come visit I’ll buy you a drink.
10. Stop mandating shit and stop “cancelling folks”. A sure fire way to ensure Americans don’t comply: tell them they have no choice and no speech. Good luck with that strategy. Let’s just have good honest conversations and allow good speech to defeat bad speech.

Sorry for the rant. I am just tired of COVID hypocrisy. Ill drink a beer with any of y’all. Vaccinated, unvaccinated, democrats, Republican, English, Australian, i don’t give a fuck. They only people I won’t hang out with are folks who have a separate Instagram account for their dogs. Fucking losers

As much as I love my dog, none of them have had an IG account or any social media account. LOL

Sending you a virtual Guinness or whatever beer you want. I'll pay for it when we finally meet up in person.

Hahaha I love mine as well but hell no. I also have sent you a bottle of Blantons , virtually of course

Cardinals to be without Hopkins for remainder of regular season. Team is hopeful they get him back for Postseason.

get him out of there - how has he not been fired by now

that's patently ridiculous - his position should have been untenable when he pulled that stunt in the bar on the bye week

this urban meyer stuff is genuinely unheard of week after week - and it makes me feel really sorry for the college kids who were probably treated very similarly but had no recourse or media connections or outlets to be able to leak this stuff and even then meyer was chased out of 2 separate programs in disgrace... if it was bad enough that that happened in college then the signs should have been clear

so many of these incidents are bizarre and bad and this is by no means the worst one but i still cannot get over the genuinely absurd fact that he threatened coaching staff's jobs over losing 2 preseason games...

This is insane. This guy is an absolute baby and Khan should fire him now. He doesn't deserve to be a head coach of a high school team if he is going to treat his players like this. I get why it worked in college, but damn what is his issue.

im sorry i just cant get over the fact that this is only the tip of the iceberg - if this is how he treats nfl players, i cant imagine the shit he put some of those college kids through who had no ability to speak out or talk back or call him out

You can get away with this shit on college kids away from home for the first time, and knowing you can get them potentially drafted by an NFL team. These are grown ass men now with the ability to quit and play for another team.

I think there's some college coaches that could be good at the NFL level, but Urban Meyer sure as fuck isn't one.

legitimately cannot see how his position is tenable at this point - this type of culture is actively damaging and letting it fester until the end of the season might do genuine irreparable damage to the organisation's reputation as well as that team

should be fired yesterday at this point - one of the few cases where it makes no sense to wait until the end of the season - make darrell bevell the interim head coach and go back to the drawing board and hopefully salvage the organisational relationship with some of your players who you hope will stick around

absolutely - i mean with meyer it's to a ridiculous level where this shit shouldnt be able to fly in college either and i feel sorry for the kids he coached (especially in florida where it sounds like there was a really toxic environment there)

but i see some similar traits in terms of lack of accountability and taking responsibility with Matt Rhule as well as a general sense that he still treats these professionals like kids as if most of them dont have their own families and kids

obviously not suggesting matt rhule's in any way in the same harmful realm as meyer but i think he's someone who similarly won't last long in the NFL unless he changes how he holds himself - but Rhule's someone who i can see why he was successful as a CEO type in college because you could see in his interactions with those college kids that he wants them to improve and prove themselves but has an air of "im a font of wisdom and you should listen to me" about him but that's fine with kids

kliff kingsbury is a great example of a college coach with a mature approach (ironic given he's younger than all these other guys) - he's more comfortable and relaxed, doesn't make excuses and understands his role and his position - and is currently coaching a 10 win team who by all accounts are enjoying themselves in a competitive division

should have been fired during the bye week. Better yet, he never should have been hired. This one is worse than the Spurrier hire.

they also apparently don't seem to think that northern ireland is in the UK lol
such a bizarre map

I must of missed the announcement that Tasmania is no longer part of Australia. Trying to have a geographic marketing plan without bothering to understand the geography seems like a winning strategy.

At this point, this man is a hall of fame hazard to the Jaguars.

Lol at-least Taiwan is somewhat a controversial. Northern Ireland is included as UK on any map you google. Solid work NFL geography department

I was curious how things are going in Australia. I’ve heard some crazy stuff about draconian lockdowns and the folks are getting restless , starting to protest. Any truth to that ?

also the fact that the teams have to pitch to the NFL and then the NFL gets to rubber stamp them...

also it's such a weird methodology - especially with canada, mexico, uk and germany where there's already established NFL links that have existed long enough that there's pre-existing fanbases of various teams there already

like it makes sense to have the Jags as one of the UK teams because they're the de-facto London team and the dolphins too who have both a large pre-existing uk fanbase and have played a fair number of london games

bears have a decent sized uk fanbase too i guess

but like what are the links with the other 3???
vikings - have had a few players do live events and stuff when they've been in london which is only a couple of times but cant think of anything else
49ers - have no links in london - but i guess they're just a generally popular team everywhere in the world... so maybe that's the reason
jets - only thing i can think of is that trump sent their owner here as the US ambassador...

are there any pre-existing links between the Rams and australia???

i just dont understand it - like the london games have been great for the NFL to expand even though they've only really sent bad teams generally to london but why does that mean that only those bad teams get to market here - like surely your growth is easier as a sport and league if suddenly good teams/winning teams are able to push their stuff... like who of those 6 teams right now is energising a uk fanbase??? like i guess 5 of them have newish youngish quarterbacks but the teams themselves arent good lol
