Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Yep, probably. I fail to understand the move though. Cousins will cost more but would make immediate difference in SF.

i think its because they have spent 8 weeks looking at their team and have probably not got a single player on offence outside of maybe trent taylor (as a 4t/5th receiving option) that will factor into the future of their team - so i think this is a case of them seeing if they can find parts around the league that will be a part of their offensive future

they cant have kirk cousins now but jimmy g can come in and play for them immediately almost like an audition and maybe keep them competitive because as much as the organisation will want the number 1/2 pick they also will not want to go 0-16

this move of course also does not eschew them from taking a qb in the top couple of picks either and if they decide to franchise tag jimmy g and have a 1st rounder play behind him they can do that for a year or have an open competition for a year - maybe even franchise him for 2 consecutive years if they want to bring in a 1st round qb too

they get to have a look at their potential qb of the future for another 9 weeks with privilege of first refusal on jimmy g this offseason - if he isnt their guy they let him leave in free agency and he gets a massive contract somewhere else and all they did was drop a high 2nd (depends on which 2nd rounder they give up) to a comp 3rd (which is nearly 2 rounds but is eased largely by the fact that they have another 2nd round pick)

and the best case of course is that he plays well and shows some things and they pay him franchise qb money and use their draft picks to put a load of offensive talent around him and let kyle shanahan build the offence he wants

so it looks like hoyer's about to be released too - what are the odds that the pats pick him up to back up tom brady all over again
and schefter is suggesting its 49ers original 2nd rounder that's being traded not the one from the saints for kamara

I heard that the Patriots scouts have been to every Louiville game this year to watch and study Lamar Jackson. Seems they are very interested in him.

If they were smart they wouldve done this move for Deshaun Waston not Lamar. If thats what their plan really is

deshaun watson costs more draft capital than lamar jackson i imagine

Does that mean Jimmy will be the new starter now? 49ers have to lock him up with a new contract now, that had to be apart of the deal right?

cj beathard has shown he's not a good qb but was better than hoyer (who they just released) so jimmy g will come in and probably start pretty damn soon (if not the first week then definitely the second) and they dont necessarily have to lock him up straight away because they can franchise tag him if he shows them he's even possibly a franchise qb

With Jimmy G in San Fran, where does that leave Kirk Cousins now?

49ers seemed obvious but there's a lot of qb needy teams out there:
could be cardinals, giants, denver maybe, jags could make a play for him, browns, could stay at washington - somewhere with a crap ton of cap space coz he likely becomes the highest paid qb in football (for a brief time at least)

surely that's not all it took to get him.... the browns and bears and all qb needy teams must be absolutely kicking themselves if this is true

That's what I'm thinking too, I mean if that's all they wanted then the Bears or Browns would have done that trade back in April for sure. Jimmy G now goes from 6-2 to now being on a 0-8 team lol.
