Its kind of a funny popular opinion that Geno Smith is a terrible QB. Am i the only one who doesn't think hes trash? He has serious potential, and if you think otherwise you never really paid attention. His rookie year he took an absolutely atrocious team to 8 wins. That was all him. The beginning of his sophomore year Jeremy Kerley was yet again his #1 target, they had Eric Decker but he was constantly injured. The jets had a terrible team yet again, not even a good defense, and this time he couldn't carry the team. He was benched for Mike Vick after starting 1-7, but with his cast, and in only his second year, its understandable. Also, 6 of those 8 teams had winning records at the end of that season, including three 12-win teams. Vick didn't play any better and Geno started the last handful of games. And damn was he good. He had a 105.3 passer rating over his last 4 games, and it was his last stretch of legit game time since then. And just so happened to be the only games he played which he had actual starting recievers. 2015 his starting spot was taken thanks to a broken jaw, and fitz played great so he never got his job back. Tore his ACL in his first start in 2016.
Multiple players and coaches have praised Geno for being incredibly smart, very passionate, and having a high football IQ. Brandon Marshall specifically requested a trade to the Jets in 2015 because of Geno. So where does the narrative come from that Geno Smith is trash? You fault a kid for not playing amazingly in his first two years with an absolutely dreadful team? Id argue he overperformed. Theres a reason after his rookie campaign he was being discussed as their franchise QB.
I'm not saying Geno will ever amount to anything. But to call him trash is absolutely unfair. He very well could be the Jets starting QB right now if it wasn't for his broken Jaw and torn acl. He has great potential. He showed a lot of growth from his rookie year to the end of his 2nd season, but never given a chance after that. With this slate of QBs this year, he is absolutely starter quality. However, theres not a great chance he plays well with the Giants, considering they are utter trash.
Found this fun tid bit of info, wanna argue something about his inaccuracy or other flaws? Geno’s completion rate of 55.8% his rookie year surpassed the rookie campaigns of Drew Brees, Alex Smith, Andrew Luck, Matthew Stafford, and Eli Manning.
I will undoubtedly get crucified for this post. Thanks in advance.
