Around the NFL: News and Rumors

oh man watch the eli interview its a little heartbreaking

It was, the Giants did him wrong on so many levels.

Tom Coughlin has spoken about the situation......

“Surprised is not the word,” Coughlin said, via Mike Garafolo of NFL Media. “My sentiments are totally with Eli Manning. I love the kid. He is a class act. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He is the finest, most humblest young man in that locker room. I haven’t followed the Giants. I know it’s a disappointing year by my thoughts are strictly with Eli. I’m very upset about when I heard that.”

Can we get a list of starting QBs for this week? It has to be an ugly list, now with the addition of geno lol

we dont know all the starts yet coz there's some teams that might get qbs back but ill try and do it for you as it currently stands:

starting qbs week 13

tom brady
josh mccown
jay cutler/matt moore
tyrod taylor

blake bortles
marcus mariota
jacoby brissett
tom savage

philip rivers
derek carr
alex smith
trevor siemian

joe flacco
ben roethlisberger
andy dalton
deshone kizer

kirk cousins
dak prescott
carson wentz
geno smith

matt ryan
cam newton
drew brees
ryan fitzpatrick

russel wilson
jimmy garopolo
blaine gabbert
jarred goff

brett hundley
case keenum
matthew stafford
mitch trubisky

so that's pretty bad but it could be worse: we could have mike glennon, nate peterman, paxton lynch/brock osweiler, cj beathard, cody kessler, drew stanton who have all at times been the starter this year (and not for reasons due to injury - except drew stanton but im including him because he got injured himself but has been outplayed by blaine gabbert and wont get his job back)

Yeah it seemed worse in my head, but still a lot of ugos in that bunch. Lol

it feels worse just because there's been a lot of circumstantial bad qb play week to week and we've lost a couple of high profile good ones - and its all exacerbated by generally bad oline play this year

Ravens vs. Steelers game on December 10th will remain at 8:30 p.m. ET. and won't be flexed out of the SNF slot. Thoughts? I love it as a Ravens fan, but as an NFL fan, how could you not put the Eagles vs Rams matchup.

i mean i dont like it as a european ravens fan lol - flexing us to the afternoon would have been fine by me but i guess ill just have to continue my fucked up sleeping pattern for another couple of weeks

Realistically, what do you gain by benching Eli? One of NY's most beloved players and one of the NFL's great iron men. What do you get with Geno Smith? You can't finish better than 7-9 and with a loss this week, the Giants are eliminated from playoff contention. Why bench Eli?
To win the Rosen sweepsteaks

Its kind of a funny popular opinion that Geno Smith is a terrible QB. Am i the only one who doesn't think hes trash? He has serious potential, and if you think otherwise you never really paid attention. His rookie year he took an absolutely atrocious team to 8 wins. That was all him. The beginning of his sophomore year Jeremy Kerley was yet again his #1 target, they had Eric Decker but he was constantly injured. The jets had a terrible team yet again, not even a good defense, and this time he couldn't carry the team. He was benched for Mike Vick after starting 1-7, but with his cast, and in only his second year, its understandable. Also, 6 of those 8 teams had winning records at the end of that season, including three 12-win teams. Vick didn't play any better and Geno started the last handful of games. And damn was he good. He had a 105.3 passer rating over his last 4 games, and it was his last stretch of legit game time since then. And just so happened to be the only games he played which he had actual starting recievers. 2015 his starting spot was taken thanks to a broken jaw, and fitz played great so he never got his job back. Tore his ACL in his first start in 2016.

Multiple players and coaches have praised Geno for being incredibly smart, very passionate, and having a high football IQ. Brandon Marshall specifically requested a trade to the Jets in 2015 because of Geno. So where does the narrative come from that Geno Smith is trash? You fault a kid for not playing amazingly in his first two years with an absolutely dreadful team? Id argue he overperformed. Theres a reason after his rookie campaign he was being discussed as their franchise QB.

I'm not saying Geno will ever amount to anything. But to call him trash is absolutely unfair. He very well could be the Jets starting QB right now if it wasn't for his broken Jaw and torn acl. He has great potential. He showed a lot of growth from his rookie year to the end of his 2nd season, but never given a chance after that. With this slate of QBs this year, he is absolutely starter quality. However, theres not a great chance he plays well with the Giants, considering they are utter trash.

Found this fun tid bit of info, wanna argue something about his inaccuracy or other flaws? Geno’s completion rate of 55.8% his rookie year surpassed the rookie campaigns of Drew Brees, Alex Smith, Andrew Luck, Matthew Stafford, and Eli Manning.

I will undoubtedly get crucified for this post. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you might be the only one. Geno isn't good.

They made this mistake before and the Ravens/Steelers put on a show when they got flexed out. Wish I could remember all the details for you but this game is known to be a killer matchup. You also got a boatload of Steeler fans and our base is pretty big too. Look at all our overseas friends just on this forum. Just better ratings for this game imo.
