Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Did he just Belichick them the way Bill did to the Jets? Belichick must have told the team 2018 will be his last year and McDaniels is the successor in 2019. Only way to explain this.
Agreed there on all accounts. Apparently his deal was sweetened and it does at least suggest that he could be in line at some point.

Word is that McDaniels accepted the job but was still listening to offers from New England for him to stay. He used the Colts to get a bigger payday it seems.

So... the Colts prepared for McDaniels by hiring the assistants that were to be on his coaching staff. Now the assistants are under contract and McDaniels is no longer taking the job.

That part to me was the most pitiful and classless. Thank God that we didn't go after him.

They are pissed but reality is - they should make this day new Colts holiday.
McDaniels is a [profanity deleted] - that was clear since his Denver days. He should stay in NE for life, that's exactly the team for him.
In the long run I imagine McDaniels will be the one coming out worst off. Unless he can recreate his success without Brady his success will just be seen as an illusion so no-one wants to hire him when the NE ship sinks and he gets canned. And being a right pratt to the Colts will put off a huge amount of potential employers down the line.

And it couldn't happen to a more deserving person.

Maybe Andrew Luck's career is over and that hasn't been announced yet?

You might be on to something and this might be the reason McDaniels deserted them in the 12th hour. Report now is that doctors remain concerned about Andrew Luck and there is a possibility of him requiring even more surgery.

Should the Colts consider drafting a QB at least in the second or third round at this point? Or just tank again for whoever the top QB is in 2019?

I guess we'll know the answer to Luck question once we see who they take at #3

You are probably right. Maybe we will offer him a job if Harbaugh is fired at the end of the year.

McDaniels May have burned every bridge in the NFL by doing this. He will most likely fail as a head coach in New England, if that is in fact who he ends up coaching. The Patriots are going in a free fall.

We could do with going through one of their free falls if they get to the Super Bowl and we don't get close.

Damn straight. I'd be celebrating if I were a Colts fan, but seriously, fuck him. Only time will tell, but I hope he burns NE to the ground. Their fans need to be humbled big time.

Indeed. He's putting all of his eggs in this NE basket. If he fails, his HC career in the NFL is done. Matter of fact, it wouldn't surprise me if he never becomes a HC again if he gets fired.
