The General Offensive Line Thread

I personally don't see any reason Franklin would come back to his previous oline coach whom he struggled with.

At this point, I think something really stupid happens, some veteran gets released, and we take advantage of it....
Yes, one might think that may be the case, But it could just be do to his injuries as well.

I don't think any credible above average Tackle is getting cut in training camp this yr. McKinney thing was a very lucky one shot deal.

Surprise cuts happen every year at every position, we could still trade if the long game doesnt work out. We dont even need above average, just average is a major upgrade from Hurst.

If Eluemunor can learn from Yanda technique and tough aggressive play to mask his inexperience as a rookie til his technique catches up with his size power and athleticism. Then the line could be pretty good. Our best case scenario is Eluemunor is so strong athletic and smart that he can mask his inexperience and play well as a rookie!! In that case our Oline could look very solid athletic and big/physical

Stanley Eluemunor Jensen Yanda Lewis.

Stanley is a pro bowler. Eluemunor is big powerful and surprising athleticism. Reminds so much of Andre Smith and Carl Nicks. Jensen if you get the 330lb 2015 version. That has the nasty aggressive play with a tackles athleticism he has massive potential at center. With rare size and drive blocking skills for a center. And is a big upgrade!! Remember he graded better than Yanda over last 4 games of 2015 and aced the eye test with aggressive and dominant play style. Last year he was barely 300lbs and wasn't to bad for being undersized. He looks as big or bigger than 2015. He showed some bad form last year. But when you lose 30 lbs and a lot of strength it can change your technique as well. I think Jensen is a pleasant surprise and upgrade over Zuttah. Yanda is Yanda. Anything else you can add to Yanda?? lol.

Lewis is the player I'm picking to make the big year2 jump. He is 6'6 320 lbs with a rare feel for blocking and angles and has better than adequate athleticism. Harbaugh looks genuinely excited talking about him. Not the Harbaugh hoping to convince people undrafted WRs will make for a top10 offense. He is genuinely impressed with his technique strides as well as his upgraded size and strength strides. He is a college all star season standout that continues to get better stronger and more technical. I'm not saying we are a lock to have a top5 OLine. But there is good reason for optimism in Jensen and Lewis. And let's not count out Eluemunor as a contributor. Run a search Eluemunor NFL network combine highlights The hosts were very thoroughly impressed with his size and athleticism!! He hit Cam Robinson with pop and you can see the look on his face he was shocked and caught off guard by his strength!!

Eluemunor was one of my guys coming in... but I think it's more likely that Lewis and he are switched in your configuration - as much as I think all linemen can learn from yanda, I think eluemunor could be a really good tackle

That would be an amazing boost to this team though if he can develop quicker than expected and finally rid the team of James hurst (no matter how well he's supposedly doing in practice)

I see you love Hurst and have confidence in him!! Lmao. I actually think Eluemunor and Lewis can play Tackle and guard. Although Lewis doesn't have 36" arms he plays long armed. I would be happy with any combo of Lewis and Eluemunor if he can start faster than we thought. I like Eluemunor's frame for interior drive blocking but if he can play b4 we thought he could you are right any combo of he and Lewis is a win. Eluemunor and Lewis are the stronger physical lineman management likes prefers and forecasts.

Why the hell are you so high on Eluemunor? I do not see him at tackle in the NFL. Too short and shitty footwork. You can go without one but not both.

Because dude. I would call his movement raw and uncontrolled but not shitty. Shitty would mean his feet don't move well. But his movement is very bouncy and quite very athletic looking for such a big strong dude. The athleticism and fast foot movement is there for a coach to shape and take advantage of. Isn't it encouraging he can move that athletically for a big power player?

His feet don't move well. They are capable of moving fast, but they do not always move well. There is a difference in the world of OL. Of the little available film I've seen, he frequently is late to this anchor point in pass protection or aiming point un the run game.

It's very encouraging to see him move quickly. But Michael Oher was probably the fastest tackle I've seen. One of the best first steps I've seen. He moved fast, but he did not move well.

Remember he is very raw he played rugby in England. He was like 15 b4 he was around any organized football. He was offered various wrestling scholarships but opted small school football. He played junior college and then one year of sec. his last 4 games are much better. He began running his feet better. Watch his NFL.com combine highlights. He is looking better. Observe the look on Cam Robinsons face when he bulled into him drive blocking style. It is a quite impressive vid.

I see what you're saying. He really is a freak. I'm just not seeing any year one impact. Footwork is often the make or break for OL in the NFL. Just look at Oher and Jensen.

Oher plain didn't have the mindset. When the spotlight was on him he blew it up as a rookie. He was nasty and played strong like a bully. Ogden was impressed with him and labeled him the left tackle of the future. The next year he was so passive like he didn't care and love the game. From skill standpoint Oher shoulda been first tackle off the board. But inconsistent passive play plagued him in college as well and his commitment was questioned. The new current rookie Eluemunor really wants it!! He is smart strong athletic, loves the game and he so really wants it!!

Lets cool it down a bit, everyone is going to have different opinions. For me personally the word "potential" doesnt mean anything, everyone is a non factor until proven otherwise.

I'm okay with different opinions. I'd just like to actually read it and talk about it, as I've done with Sledge, lol.

What's your take on Eluemunor? I'm of the belief he is, possibly, the first of many heirs apparent to Yanda. I think the idea is to let him develop a year or two and take over at RG, where I think he'll be a monster, when Yanda retires.

*Heirs apparent

There's my different opinion :p

Anybody see recent pics of Alex Lewis?? He looks really good!!
Oh yes. I'm excited. I know he's not at RT yet, but I'm expecting him to end up there and do better than Wagner did.

If not, maybe he'll end up a better Alex Boone. How Boone plays guard at 6'8 is beyond me, but he was pretty damn good for about two years. Edit: Actually, it turns out he's continued to be pretty good.

I think he has a very similar skill set and play style to Brandon Linder.

I like his physical profile, theres some similarities to KO and college tackles do make the best pro guards but theres a lot of guys like him who amount to nothing. Right now Goose is a better prospect despite being a lesser athlete. Obviously hes very raw, his balance and movements are a bit jerky which ties into muscle memory and technique. I think overall his prospects at guard are better than tackle, but the pick is still good value.
