The General Offensive Line Thread

I am excited about Eluemenor and I see a ton of talent and intriguing tools, but I don't expect him to be a starter yet. Maybe after the by or with injuries, but not a Day one starter.

I would love to see Siragusa as our left guard. I pray we move Alex to right tackle. It just seems that is by far our best option (besides trading, unlikely) You can't be good without a decent right tackle, and James Hurst will only lead us to a 8-8 record. Nico is a natural left guard and lewis strikes me as a natural right tackle. Make it happen Ozzie.

I see what you're saying. He really is a freak. I'm just not seeing any year one impact. Footwork is often the make or break for OL in the NFL. Just look at Oher and Jensen.

I think the thing here is we all realise there's no way he's ready this year at his current state but wouldn't it be great if he did come on quick in the same way it would be amazing if canady really does take over the slot corner role - it's always nice to see late round guys come in and make an impact when it's not necessarily expected

At least that's my viewpoint on those guys - with eluemunor I really want to see him do well because he has the physical tools if he can develop his technique (I realise that's a big deal) and also coz he's a hometown kid who I'd love to see succeed on my team - never thought that would happen after we didn't draft Ajayi

You can be a good Oline without a good RT just ask Dallas. The nicest thing you could say about Free is that he is mediocre and they had the best Oline in football.

With the Raiders and Cowboys, their RT was still serviceable in at least one phase of the game. Doug Free can move people, but pass pro isn't his forte, as I understand it. Same goes for Austin Howard with Oakland. He's a goddamn bully in the run game. But, there's no doubt that both players were the weak links on their units. Luckily, RT is the position where you can scheme the most help. Also helps them that Gabe Jackson and Zack Martin might be the number 2 and 3 RGs in the league, behind Yanda.

Joe D'Alessandris will prove this season that castillo was the problem all along. he will get this group to over achieve.

Zack Martin may already be better than Yanda. Yanda is entering season11 and his mid 30's. Even if he plays not quite to par cuz of his age then it means he is one of the best guards but not the best. I think Osemele is better than Gabe Jackson. And slightly better than Martin. Eluemunor has potential to be as good to better than Jackson. As big and strong maybe even stronger but a better athlete than Gabe Jackson.

I'm not saying Eluemunor is a lock to be as good to better than Jackson. But even ravens rivals have to acknowledge Eluemunor was quite a find in round5 of any draft. Much less a draft known to be very weak on offensive lineman. He didn't have any business being available in round5. But it is good for the offense he was. And he has a hill to climb but don't count him out totally contributing.

Alex Lewis was more athletic than credited for. He was lb 4 lb strong as well. He has worked very hard to get bigger stronger and in better overall playing shape. His technique strides has unlocked even more athleticism as he blocks better on the move than he did in college. He has good instincts and understands angles and how to gain superior position. He looks really good going in training camp. He was a very skilled blocker coming out that has got far stronger and helped his technique by leaps and bounds. Again He looks awesome moving into camp. He is going to make a big year 2 jump. I'm optimistic about Judon performing well and at least doubling his sack total. But I believe Lewis makes the best year 2 jump be It Guard tackle whatever. Lewis is probably better than anybody that becomes available this preseason.

The bigger stronger near 330lb Jensen is back. A very underrated athlete and back to his 2015 size and form. Although coming off a down year. Fans should be counting on him to be an upgrade over Jeremy Zuttah

Like I said b4 the draft. Stanley could be better than Tunsil. He was a real college student with a real major and degree. He couldn't commit to getting stronger like he most early entry's. Like Lewis he clearly looks stronger now. He generated his power through fluid athleticism and technique at Notre Dame. Now that his upper body is on par with Tunsils he is outplaying him. Stanley now in NFL strength and conditioning has the place on his schedule to get stronger unlike at Notre Dame.where he attended class, games, practice, homework and work. He will continue to get bigger and stronger and should challenge Tyron Smith for the title. If gets to looking anything like Tyron he will be an all time great LT with his technique, athleticism and feel for the position.

i think what the ravens did was in a line lacking talent they picked for potential over plug and play because any plug and play guys were likely to be disappointing in the later rounds

Yep!! Is Eluemunor any different than Cam Robinson?? Robinson has more years of experience but Eluemunor looked stronger at the combine when he bulled Robinson. And although raw he moves with more athleticism

ok i will say this - i really like cam robinson as a guard and maybe even as a tackle but i dont think its fair to compare him with eluemunor - but i agree that eluemunor in a perfect situation could develop into a better player - however id still prefer robinson on this team for the next 3 years - but its like comparing apples and oranges - its different situations and different values and completely different draft positions

Of course Cam is more NFL ready and I would prefer Cam Robinson this year. Eluemunor only played one year in the SEC. His games at end of season was substantially better. And he was never even around American football til he was like 16. Therefore I would actually prefer Cam this year cuz he is more likely to make an impact as a rookie. But their overall raw skillset is very comparable. Cam has elite length however for the tackle position. But the skills are very comparable to Cam, Carl Nicks, Andre Smith

This is just my daily post about how angry I am that James Hurst is an actual option in the eyes of the coaching staff....

SMH. I love you Harbs but times like these... No

What annoys me is they seemed high on inhouse guys like Wesley and nembot and have Alex Lewis - out of those 4 guys I find it odd that unexpectedly hurst has come out on top so far - either he has improved dramatically or the coaching staff essentially trusts yanda to just sort out the right side of the line

I've been thinking this for a while now, but it really looks like Lewis is going to be the LG. And in that case it can only mean one thing: that he is dang good at it right now. Otherwise we would have tried to move him to RT where he seems like he could fit and where the depth is thin. If he wasn't a good G, we would have placed Nico, Eluemunor or even Urschel instead, which is way better than what we have at T, and tried to fit Alex,at RT to fill the hole and not have a drop off in his play.
Right now apparently there seems to be a dropoff for him between LG and RT and probably because he is really performing at LG.
I hope I made my point clear

Lewis was a servicable LG in his rookie season (a good thing) but thats not that position he was drafted to play, he could become good but hes obviously not a powerhouse like other tall top tier guards.
