Signings, Cuts, Trades

perhaps EDC is banking on the Steelers having a bad year making the 5th round pick higher in 2021 than this year. If Big Ben doesn’t comeback 100% or gets hurt again their season could go south quickly

Judon is not worth the extension or 16+ million a year. He strikes me as someone that once he cashes in big, his motor declines. He was pitiful in the Titans game and I feel like a lot of his sacks come in garbage time. He sucks at setting the edge and tackles when he wants too.

Pfft, EDC will turn that 5th rounder into a trade for another Pro Bowler, regardless of the quality.

Nah, it’s just that Eric is deadly with 5th round picks, he’s gonna trade that wormley pick to the bears for Khalil Mack and a 2nd next year

Anyone know our projected cap number next year? Isn’t it supposed to be a lot?

nah it never is. We all thought this year it would be. We'll never ever be in the top 25% in cap. We'll over pay judon and also be paying stanley.

Overpaying Judon is exactly what I’m afraid of. Hopefully we can replace Brandon Williams in the draft as well and trade him next offseason. We need his contract off the books.

Downside of being a good team, picking late and being low on cap.

although I’m also not sold on paying Judon a lot, I’m definitely for letting him play under the tag for a year and just moving on. I think we’re better off with him for a year than anything else, we don’t have a backup plan to him and he should perform better with this DL were fielding. Playing under the tag could get us a ring, long term sign has the same upside but also adds the downside of an average rusher hindering the cap

I have a feeling we will be making a lot of tough cuts with all the picks have, so glad we are getting draft capital for him next season.
In case fans haven't figured it out yet, expect this defense to look quite a bit different than it did last year. I don't think we're nearly done turning over bodies either.

Remember how there wasn't a single person on this forum who last year thought we should give $$ to ZDS?

ZDS went against the grain of what would normally happen given his career history.

Anyhow whatever EDC does people on this board will find a way to praise the move rather than see it objectivly. ( ie brandon williams on the br,com forum)

I saw someone mention the 2021 cap. Not exactly sure what it looks like, but the below is why I'm okay with a lower cap hit in year 1 and flatter structures for future years for whoever we sign this year...

Ronnie Stanley
Matt Judon
Matt Skura
Morgan Cox
Willie Snead
Jihad Ward
Tyus Bowser
Justin Ellis
Robert Griffin
Andre Smith
Jordan Richards

Stanley will get the tag if absolutely needed, and Judon might be solved this year. Outside of those 2, you might have to pay Skura some decent money, and you'll probably look to retain Cox on a cheap deal. Everyone else is not a big deal.

You use the term 'objective' to describe your subjective views.
I am on the record wanting to resign Judon long term since the beginning of last season. So if EDC does it, I'll be happy because of that, not because I think EDC is infallible.

On a related note, I love the way they've done the restructures so far. They've yet to touch a big contract and it seems they're doing everything in their power to keep it that way. Koch extension, Fort restructure, Ricard restructure all minor moves that add up this year, and don't add anything drastic for next year.
