Why wouldn't they be? They either have a franchise QB on a rookie contract, or will draft one in April, and have a shit load of cap space. Why wouldn't they be buyers? Same thing with Carolina... they've been advertising they want a WR upgrade for months.
They can't be sellers. They have nothing to sell. The only thing they could trade of any value is Fields.

Fair point, guess I always think of deadline buyers as being contenders trying to get over a hump, but if they’ve stockpiled resources to go just grab any talent they can find rather than just via the draft, that can be a building strategy.

Yup, that's the aspect of the trade deadline I think a lot of people miss. It's not like the NBA or MLB where bad teams just sell off all their good assets to contenders. There's plenty of teams that aren't good today that absolutely plan on being good in 1-2 years, and they want to add quality veterans to that group. Bears make sense. Panthers make sense. Texans would make some sense.
Conceptually, anybody who thinks they have a franchise QB on a rookie deal should be buying. Regardless of their current record.

They've extended Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne already to lucrative deals. I probably would have kept one of either Sweat or Young (Sweat likely costs more), but the day isn't over yet either.

No way Chase and Montez should have been shipped out before Del Rio. Before the trade assumed if one was traded off they'd keep the other. Seeing Montez go first I figured both are at risk.

I mean that's fine. Del Rio sucks, but Commanders defense isn't special outside of its defensive line. That team needs wholesale personnel upgrades at various spots, namely Oline. Not going to do that without draft picks.
Once they extended Payne and Allen, I was certain they wouldn't keep either Sweat or Young. Just a question of whether they trade them or let them walk.
