The one thing I am really curious about here as some have already alluded to is that Fuller has been a zone guy throughout his career

Well I expect to see us play more zone this year anyway, and certainly be more multiple in our secondary and defensive looks.

I bet we run cover 3 as our primary

For all the Chuck Clark talk, he's at OTAs today. He might ultimately want out but it seems he's going to be real professional about it all if nothing comes to fruition.
That is truly awesome news dude! I'm so happy that he is being a total professional about his situation. I'm sure EDC and John had a long chat with him regarding how much esteem and regard they have for his play.

Did Michigan play zone concepts mostly with Dak Hill as free safety? I haven't followed them and would love to know.
I honestly don't know. From what I read, it was pretty much up the middle. I think he prefers man, but its a product of matchups and personnel.
Only things I've seen on film that's consistent is that he's probably quite a bit more "vanilla" than Wink. I don't see a ton of the disguised blitz concepts that Wink was herald for.
I've seen other analysts suggest more Cover 2 and Cover 3 schemes.

Let’s hope he ain’t guarding WR1s all szn in this defense.

Like I said, you picked the wrong house bub if you think I'm gonna shut up about a guy who 4 years ago scored a good score but didn't get shit the rest of the time

Fuller hasn't been good in a few years, but is still young, a vet, and when he was playing well was quite good. Maybe he can get back to form as CB3/CB4 in our defense.

it'll do him a ton of good not to be relied on as a full-time starter and not to be asked to play much outside
not suggesting he'll get back to 2018/2019 pro bowl form but no reason to think he can't add value and security to this CB corps that was probably 1 of only 2 remaining shallow parts of the defence (along with ILB)

well i guess we're gonna see a ton of 5 safety looks then lol...
but yeah i noticed that last year that he played a decent amount of star or zone nickel type snaps
that said it was a fangio defence last year and he played a load of man too

id be surprised - that would be a real zig while the nfl is zagging...
i think we're more likely to see more cover 2 and split zone than we've seen before - with wink we ran a ton of single-high and variations off that while the NFL has moved more towards cover 2 looks

if we're going to play cover 3 it means that mike macdonald has persuaded harbs in his hiring interview that there's something the entire NFL is overlooking right now

mike macdonald likes to use a lot of coverage disguises and does like to blitz too but he philosophically is looking to use blitzes to create 1v1 matches and remain gap-sound and let his guys win their battles upfront whereas wink looked to create overloads and get free rushers and give up leverage on some gaps with his blitzes

so i would agree that macdonald seems to be a little more "conventional" but he's from the same tree as wink and looks to use disguise and deception too (just doesnt use it as the predominant tool in his arsenal)

Hamilton in an interview said they been running a bunch of cover 3 in camp. This move made perfect sense from a depth perspective.

I don’t see marlon being a viable cover 3 corner, it’s like the exact scheme you don’t want him playing.

With our personnel I really like cover 6 and 2 high man. Cover 6 especially, giving Williams a half field to cover while marlon can play flats, curls, and slants, and then you give hamilton a quarter to cover with the support of Marcus peters, you have a ballhawk zone corner who basically has free reign to force turnovers and Kyle hamiltons supposed speed issue becomes a total non issue.

But then again, if you wanna run cover 3, put fuller on the boundary and make Humphrey your robber, TEs/slots/screens will be erased from the game and then you have 2 boundary corners who can thrive in cover 3 and a FS who will thrive as well

I just think generally we'll see more diverse coverage
we'll probably see some cover 3, but i imagine we'll see more cover 1 and cover 2 - we've got a new DC but we're not going to abandon the philosophies that have helped build this defence into a force vs modern offences - just evolving it
