never said anything about the bills playoff loss...
you're the one who said 2 years ago... so idk why you've brought the bills into this but ok we'll talk about the bills

and that was a pretty even game in buffalo until 2 plays changed the course of the game and that was with tyre phillips and dj fluker rotating at RT... so when you say that the OL right now isnt what it was when we lost to the bills, you're right... it's better and potentially much better because it doesnt have tyre phillips as the starting RT and Kevin Zeitler's the RG and it might have Ronnie Stanley back at LT and it may well have an upgrade at C too if we can add anyone (if not then it's the same C who started that game too)

and yes the bills have added talent but, spoiler alert, just like every other team they've lost talent too - the difference is that losing your starting RT who played nearly 100% of the snaps for you doesn't get massive adam schefter tweets with songs of $120m contracts nor does losing your starting CB or 2 of your top 4 WRs or 2 of your quality EDGE players or your entire interior DL outside of Ed Oliver...

and guess what?
they've watched us do the same thing with Marcus Williams and Morgan Moses and Michael Pierce (and at one point ZDS too) - i think the bills have done good business for sure but part of their good business has been filling holes for good players they've lost

and when you talk about marcus williams like that, you sort of tell on yourself there - you're saying that they've got significantly better but we haven't when we've added a supreme talent in his prime and one of the most prolific playmakers currently in the game - so prolific that he hardly gets targeted anymore

I mean last year the Ravens missed the playoffs and 2 years ago they played the Bills. I felt the timeline worked out effectively, but I guess I could have been clearer and said 2 seasons. Also I was not hiding anything on Marcus Williams, I openly stated I do not know a lot about him because I do not keep up with NFC South much at all and as he never made a pro bowl or all pro I never thought to give him a big look. I did not hide that in the post, I openly stated I did not know a lot about him but assumed he was great based on the reaction and pricetag.

When it comes to WRs I looked at their group from 2 seasons ago and their projected group if opening day were right now and I would take today's 100 times out of 100 and on defense they already had the number 1 defense in football and are getting better.

Also fun fact when you talked about the RT who played 100% of snaps and 120 million I had to check and see if Orlando Brown got an extension because that is basically the exact same story (yes I realize it was about the Bills but the parallels made me laugh).

I don’t think we’ve done enough to compete with the best in the conference. Feels like some teams are absolutely running away with it and we’re limiting ourselves by hoarding picks. We need to play catch-up the rest of the off-season. Luckily there’s still time but sometimes I really wish we’d take the Rams route and acquire as much talent as possible
we still have the draft and we knew we weren't going to be able to replace all of our needs in one offseason. Not without doing some cap gymnastics.

i havent heard anything about them bumping their offer...
I can't remember where I read it, but, I know they were working with his agent over the phone trying to salvage the deal by bumping up the offer. What it was I have no idea, perhaps it may have been the incentives being converted to real money. I wish I could tell you more. I'll keep looking and if I find the same reference again, I'll post it. I'm sure others on the forum may have read or seen the same thing I did too.

Here is a link where there is a reference of the Ravens trying to rework the deal, but not much more.

I found another source: Our own Jeff Zrebiec. My hunch is I may have read it here. Here is a cut and paste excerpt from his article in the Athletic;

There won’t be a reunion between Smith and the Ravens after all.

A day after the Ravens believed they had reached a verbal agreement on a four-year $35 million deal with Smith that carried a maximum value of $50 million, the two sides are headed in separate directions.

Smith, according to sources, had second thoughts about the agreement and backed out of it Wednesday night, not long after details started coming out about the contracts agreed to by fellow free agent pass rushers Von Miller(Buffalo Bills) and Chandler Jones (Las Vegas Raiders).

The Ravens, according to sources, worked to revise the deal and alleviate some of Smith’s concerns. However, the two sides couldn’t find a compromise that worked for both sides. Smith, who was released by the Green Bay Packersearlier this week, remains on the open market.

did the rams not just win the superbowl with stafford at QB?

like i get the rationale that a star QB on a rookie deal is very powerful in helping you strengthen your team around them but if you look at the best teams every year (and ones that go deep into the playoffs) on top of just the superbowl winners (because if you just look at SB winners then the obvious conclusion is that the only true certain formula for winning superbowls is having Brady) then you see a lot of the highest paid QBs in the game

the true difference maker in the playoffs isnt a cheap rookie QB, it's health - and yes a cheaper QB allows you to have a deeper roster and mitigate some of the potential health issues but ultimately the superbowl winner is normally in the top 5 healthiest teams

people point to rodgers but the packers arent going out in the divisional round or the conference championship because rodgers is earning too much of their cap, they're going out because they're bottling it in big moments

the 2 best teams in the AFC played in the divisional round against each other and at that time were the 2 highest paid players in the league - the bills had the best defence in the league but couldnt stop mahomes in OT so they went out... allen's contract didnt stop them, mahomes did

and the chiefs didnt lose to the bengals because of mahomes was being paid a bunch of money, they lost to the bengals with a massive lead at half-time because they bottled it in a big-spot and gave the game away

and the bengals didnt win the superbowl despite having the healthiest roster in the league and a superstar QB on a rookie deal
Oh i 100% sure its not cause of the actual contract itself.. just saying that its rare that a qb wins the SB after his rookie deal.. tbf stafford got traded to rams so he dnt really count.

i think its the same as when lamar had that amazing season in 2019 - rival AFC N fanbases went "cool... but do it again"
and he did

i think some are in that place with burrow too "cool... but do it again" - im not though - i thought he was legit as soon as i saw him in his rookie year before he went down... and tbh i knew he was legit before he was even drafted - he was the highest grade ive ever put on a QB since i started grading players (maybe 2014???) and it was easy to put that grade on him too
Borruw is legit for sure.. not saying he isnt just saying bengals as a whole.

Aside from Brady and Stafford there's also Nick Foles and Peyton Manning that won off of the rookie contract. Before Mahomes you'd have to go back to Russell Wilson winning it on his rookie deal back in 2014. Though simply put Brady wins them so often that it basically destroys any attempt to find a pattern other than Brady constantly winning them.

In fact from 2010 to the present only three rookie contract QBs have won it (Flacco, Wilson, and Mahomes).

I wouldnt really count stafford because he was traded.. i assumed peyton won after rookie deal with colts since it took him a while to have playoff success but i wasnt sure…but yea brady fuck up everything lol..

Where are all these “balls in the air” EDC was referring to god dammit

lol we know 1 was michael pierce, we know another was eddie goldman
im guessing 1 is bobby wagner

we dont know any other players we've shown interest to - nothing else has come out yet

A very interesting FA week, both for the Ravens and NFL as a whole. I'd be relatively ok with depth signings and some cheap veterans (like Houston ladt year). I don't want to spend too much of next years cap in restructures in case Jackson decides on the tag route instead of an extension. *fingers crossed he gets extended*

My take on Watson to the Browns. I'm really scared it will work out, in which case this division is hell for a long time.
That said, if I was the Browns, my biggest fear would be the reason he asked for a trafe. If a 23(?) year old QB thinks he has the right to influence GM hiring, what will he do with 250M guaranteed contract? "Fire the HC or I won't play"?

If that’s all they had in mind then fuck them smh.

who knows - all im saying is those are the only ones we know about

and other than jc tretter, not sure there's any other "bigger" guys id want them to look into

and obviously that excludes all the UFAs we still have currently on the market, of whom a lot have offers including calais
