Signings, Cuts, Trades

Also why I'm lukewarm on the idea of Gus coming back this year. Feels like he isn't close. 8 is a lot of return guys, but if you're already earmarking Gus, Ojabo, Bowser, and then they're floating Stanley, Jones and/or Dobbins, that's like half of your designated to return slots gone before first kickoff. You get a couple guys with high ankle sprains mid-year, and they'll have to carry them on the 53 instead of IR, which isn't ideal.

I think Jones probably goes to IR, but Stanley and Dobbins avoid it. So you got 4 guys already that I think they'd like to bring back. Also why I think its possible, though maybe not right now, that Faalele doesn't come back. Not sure he's a "return" guy unless you're really healthy throughout the year.
Gus and Bowser don’t count as they’re PUP, but point still remains.

I'd have gone Badie over Hill, mostly for the cap savings and the youth.

I'll also say... I'm disappointed in how we approached RB more than anything. I'll be in the minority, but I'm not high on Drake or Davis. They may be upgrades over Murray and the plodders we had last year, but I'm not sure its a huge upgrade.
You went into the offseason knowing Dobbins and Edwards were coming off huge injuries, and knowing that Edwards injury was worse than expected. I think we could have done something better in the draft to address a RB than a 6th round pick who got cut.
Totally agree on all points except Drake. I think we are very lucky to have got him. He's substantially better than all of those guys from last year. Davis I actually hate. Also it really sucks that JK and Gus are both so behind still as you said.

Whoops yeah forgot about that. Well that's not good because I think it makes it more likely that Stanley heads that route then. Dobbins going to IR makes very little sense to me. Struggle to see how a guy who's been practicing for weeks needs another month to prepare.

I agree with this take, but Mink says it better:

Re: Josh Oliver, the Ravens love tight ends. Boyle is still working his way back to full strength so may need more in-line blocking help. Oliver is huge and flashed as a receiver in the preseason finale. Remember how much the Ravens used Eric Tomlinson the past couple years?

Boyle probably another IR candidate tbh

The struggle with a guy like Stanley is that he needs practice reps to get back and he can’t get those on IR

Maybe. I think we're all in the dark. If he needs practice reps to get ready, he's about out of time, because in-season practice reps are about as light as they come and are mostly just glorified walkthroughs and game planning. Which starts next week anyway.

probably went Hill due to his st prowess and already losing a bunch of special teams this season.

My point is more that it lengthens his stay. If he’s on IR for 4 weeks with no practice, he’s going to need ramp up. Next thing you know, it’s 7-8 weeks of him being out.

McFarland suggesting that Travis Jones or even Stanley could end up on IR to open the year as well. Jones makes some sense, since he would seem likely to miss the first 2-3 weeks, minimum, based on his timeline. Would think Dobbins (highly unlikely in my opinion) or Stanley going on IR would be highly disappointing at this stage, though again, Stanley hasn't practiced in like a year...

stanley going on I/R would make no sense to me - why activate him off PUP and force yourself to do roster gymnastics if he's not ready and he's already on the PUP list

I think we learned some unsettling things about our team today. Ronnie and JK are not super close. Nick Boyle is probably not super close. We don't have OLBs. Idk was feeling extremely excited yesterday and this is definitely a step backwards

So will Davis and Drake be the Murray/Freeman replacements? Too many players trying to return from ACL's. And I'm beginning to think Stanley can't be counted on, maybe ever.

I am feeling the same way. I was hoping a few more of these players injured last season would be ready to go week 1. I can’t lie, I am a little deflated.

You don’t think Davis is better than the replacements we brought in last year ?

Ronnie and JK change nothing for me
the weird ones are the whole OLB/EDGE situation which is baffling and the TE situation with josh oliver which is odd because oliver's not a blocker
