Signings, Cuts, Trades

Ravens were around 3 years late with QB change.
He looked very good in 2014 with a coordinator that seemed to work with his strengths
Also would point out that IF we had gone for a new QB earlier via the draft, not too many scenarios where we would be in a better spot.
Again, assuming 2016 was the first time you had a realistic option to move off of Joe or draft his successor, that draft was pretty horrible for QBs.
Wentz and Goff went 1/2, and the only other QB really worth a shit from that draft was Dak, who went 4th round. Definitely one of the weaker QB drafts in recent year.
2017 you (I guess) had shots at Mahomes or Watson if we were willing to move up to get them, which wouldn't have been ridiculously expensive, but there's nobody at our pick or later who was an upgrade or would be better than Lamar.

So the only real "miss" is that, theoretically, if you had a little more foresight, we could have moved up for Mahomes. Watson I think is largely a push with Lamar, so I don't think anybody is losing sleep over not getting him. Especially knowing what we know now.

I am glad it turned out the way it turned out. Only thing I did not like towards the end was how ugly we looked towards the end. Waiting and hoping Dennis Pitta would come back and Camp to overcome injuries.

Agree. 2015-2017 was a dismal stretch in this teams history for sure.

Well, not really. Three years late means 2015, and 2014 was probably Joe's best season as a Pro. 2015 he was injured.

Wasn't really until about '16-'17 before he figured out he wasn't going to improve. And because of the colossal failure that was the original contract, he was always going to be a Raven until at least 2017 realistically.
He was never the same after the ACL/MCL, then the back issues.

When we missed those years in the draft we missed AWFULLY bad. The second and third rounds jump out at me for some of these years
Well, the funny thing is, the 2016 and 2017 drafts were fairly decent. Got Stanley, Tavon Young, Judon, Marlon, Bowser and Clark in those drafts.

It was actually the drafts before those years that were horrible. 2010 was bad, 2012 was dreadful, 2013 was terrible at the top but got some decent players in the middle (BWill, Juice, Wagner, Jensen), 2014 was bad outside of Mosley, and 2015 had very little. Basically got ZaDarius and Boyle.

That's why I kind of eyeroll at some of the complaints about EDC drafts. They haven't been great, but people not to stop pretending like Ozzie was a master at it every year. He has multiple large stretches of drafts on his resume of just "meh" players pretty much everywhere.

Like look at the '04-'06 drafts. It's literally three years of mostly just hot garbage. It's Ngata and a Punter.

I know its unlikely but I'd also like to see us part ways with Harbs. It just feels like a good time for a fresh start. Assuming we bring Lamar back long term, that gives the new coach and Lamar 3-4 years guaranteed to figure out the direction of the team. Harbs has been great, but the team feels stagnant. I would love for an injection of youth.
Brian Callahan- Bengals OC
Kellen Moore- Cowboys OC
Shane Steichen- Eagles OC

I doubt it happens, I'm sure the Ravens will let John finish out his current contract, but I wouldn't be opposed to the youth movement to inject some new life into the staff,
For me with Harbs it depends on the rest of the season. If the collapse continues and we miss the playoffs despite a very easy schedule compared to others then it's time to start fresh. There's no excuse to missing the post season this year. Hell, I'd say there's no excuse for not winning the division after the Bengals struggled early on.

Shane Steichen would be my first choice. That Eagles' offense would be so explosive with Lamar.

We signed Brett Hundley? I'd much rather roll with Brown as backup. If we lose Huntley too, season is 100% over, and then I'd rather try the rookie than Hundley who we already know is useless

especially given we cut hundley because brown outperformed him during the preseason lol

tbf though it was only to the practice squad - it's possible that we're just adding bodies to compete who already also have knowledge of the "system"

Baker Mayfield signing coming to a Ravens practice squad near you

Ehh, if you played the entire season without Lamar, what would you expect the record to be? I'd say 9-8 and no playoffs would be a reasonable expectation.

Given that, going 2-3 or 1-4 or even 0-5 in a stretch with Huntley isn't unreasonable, which some of those scenarios lead to no playoffs.

Can poke fun of the schedule, but the last three weeks were actually the weakest part of the schedule, and the Ravens will be underdogs in every single game that Huntley starts the rest of this year.

Like this ain't a bad roster, but it's not a playoff roster without a fairly high end QB on it.

Bottom line... ain't no chance in hell they fire Harbs for starting 8-3 and 8-4 the last two years, while injuries derail the season. Just ain't happening.

Pretty sure Brown is still gonna get the nod as a backup, but not certain. You need 3 QBs during the season so one can run scout team, so that's my biggest assumption as to why Hundley is back. He at least knows the system in an emergency too.

He could be San Fran bound.
I'll be interested to see what happens there. SF will be in the bottom third or so on the waiver wire, and I've seen others mention some teams that may claim him prior.

LA Rams make a lot of sense too. Stafford's not going to play this year, and Rams can fuck over a division rival.

Also not 100% sure that Shanahan would love Mayfield in his system. Probably better than Purdy, but don't know if its a perfect match either.

How exactly do you fuck over a division rival by claiming Baker?

I made that comment before Lamar got hurt, that why I said there was no excuse. And even with Lamar we struggled against bad teams. We lost to a team the Lions were able to easily beat. Missing the playoffs with a healthy Lamar would have been inexcusable.

Honestly though even if Lamar misses a few games we still shouldn't miss the playoffs.

nfl.com had him signed to the 53, which is why I wrote what I did. If it is to the PS, then I retract what I said

OK. The whole "we lost to a team that got beat by an inferior team" thing doesn't hold any weight. Colts beat the Chiefs. Every week an inferior team beats a superior one. That's just how the NFL works.

Plus I think the Lions are better than the Jags anyway, and I had large quantities of money wagered on the Lions winning that game (and the Raiders beating the Chargers also), so it didn't surprise me at all.
