My whole thing is that is his or anyone's business to know that Odell "removed God from his life?" I understand that Ray has been helping him, but at the same time, how does Ray know that? Don't mind me, I'm just rambling on at this point lol.

i agree - i guess its just my bubble but the vast majority of people i know are atheist/agnostic/lapsed - i always find it weird that almost every football player and coach etc. are always talking about faith and prayer etc.

genuinely what happens when atheist players or non-christian players get involved in the NFL - do they just awkwardly stay at the back when all these spiritual meetings happen? or is it so rare that its hardly a thing?

just something that i find a bit alien given where i come from

You hear about a lot of coaches talking about faith but it’s not too often you hear it from players. You will get a guy thanking God in their post game interview and stuff but I don’t think faith is as common in football as you’re suggesting.

But I do find it interesting that the vast majority of people you know are atheist. I’ve always felt like atheism is pretty rare compared to everything else. Probably just because I live in a pretty religious part of the U.S. I guess.

but that's the kind of stuff i mean - that seems alien to me - im relatively new to american sports (compared to most of you guys) and all the major national sports never really had much of those kinds of phrases in pressers or interviews or anything so im just not used to it still

but yeah it is funny how different our experiences are of our surrounding areas and religion i guess - i know mostly atheists and agnostics and those who do seem to identify as religious are most often lapsed or very moderate at best - most dont go to their mosque or synagogue or church or temple at all and hardly seem to experience their religion in an organised context outside of maybe an overt set of basic beliefs

our experiences seem completely opposite in fact - when i (or the people i know and interact with) meet people who are devout and hold strong religious beliefs we are often surprised because its a really rare occurrence - that's not to say that we dont know and have friends who are devout but that they seem pretty rare - i guess like atheism seems to you

Yeah I feel like most people just throw their belief around but the people who actually go to church and read scripture regularly seems a lot more rare.

Most people I know are christian and I feel like Maryland is a more secular area than most in the U.S. so kinda weird how that worked out as I have been back and forth on my beliefs in the past.

Religion has always been fascinating to me. Despite not being catholic, I went to a catholic school up through 8th grade. Without projecting my full beliefs, I will say that going to a catholic school brought up a lot more questions for me than answers. You'd ask questions in religion class and often the answer would be something along the lines of "because Jesus said so" and that just didn't resonate with me as it did with others.

Then, I ended up going to a public high school, where the number of different ethnicities and cultures was basically a whole new world to my 30 person 8th grade graduation. I sat next to an Indian girl in one of my classes freshman year and it opened up a different line of thinking. Then of course, you get to college and your world expands even more.
