The General Front 7 Thread

"Vikings third-round pick Pat Elflein will likely open the season as the starting center.". Taken 4 picks in front of us in the 3rd. Chris Wormley's spot and a late-rounder and this guy could be a Raven.

I Actually believe Eflein or a WR was our target at this point, with running slightly behind them. Once they were off the board they f.o. decided to draft Wormley.

Should have had an understanding of how much talent was already on the D line as well as a more realistic idea of the dearth of talent on the offensive line.
Should have pulled a trade for Elflein.

To me it certainly seems like they did know this and that is why they traded Jernigan. Bringing Wormley in to add to thr depth wasn't a bad move, imo. However I would have preferred Henderson, Krupp or Eflein at that point. Obviously only Henderson was available at that point.

Carlos Henderson,( assuming that is who you meant), went 18 to the Broncos.

Maybe they tried. Maybe they were fixed on Wormley and were content sitting.
Can't imagine the cost for moving, say five spots in round three would be that prohibitive. Particularly if they wanted Elflein.
but it might have been too much... we have no idea how much the teams picking ahead of us were set on their guys... given that oline was such a need for so many teams and was so sparse it may well be that other teams wouldnt trade out of that pick for anything less than a relative ransom

I suppose that's plausible. Seems at least as plausible to me that The Ravens had Wormley targeted for months and preferred him over Elflein.

interesting that pat ricard had been used a lot in practice at fb but reporters werent sure if they could mention it because they arent supposed to talk formations/scheme observed at practice - i have a feeling that we might keep all 8 dlineman and rationalise it by saying that ricard is also our fullback

Zrebiec listed whos stock is up and whose is down ahead of roster cuts, one that stands out is Correa (trending down). Early on I had concerns about his switch to ILB, I think hes too stiff and lacks instincts and awareness. I still dont know how he missed that tackle against Ajayi.

He's had some good plays and some bad plays, so even if that is not satisfying I think we need to be patient and let him get more playing time and try to erase some of those mistakes. Worst case Onwuasor and Bradley are promising options.

Here's what I believe will occur start of the regular season. Patrick Onwuasor will be starting at ILB next to Mosley. That kid plays fast and furious. He may lack ideal size but you can't measure football instincts and heart. Also, the rotation of our front is going to be hard to attack for any offense. Too stout and too big!

I like the way that Onwuasor plays, he reminds me of a SS playing ILB probably because he played safety in college. His coverage skills are pretty good and would complement Mosley well. But I also have seen a lot of growth from Correa. I still think I would be okay with either one starting at this point both haven't shown to be a liability at least yet. Usually this team can make no-named 2nd ILB's look phenomenal so I am not worried.
