Just watched the game.
I don't understand how is Rio not starting over Gakpo. He did more in 15 minutes than Gakpo in last 15 games.
Also D needs complete overhaul and most importantly, Slot the fuck out. He's approaching Harbaugh level for me.

Terrible ownership. Bad loans, bad player moves > no CL for 3 years, ie lot of lost revenue, revolving door on coaches....... Complete shitshow.

we had a poor run of form towards christmas and the place became so toxic that we moved on from the head coach who had (clearly in hindsight) been the only thing holding the squad and club together
how bad does it have to get that a coach mutually agrees to leave just to get out of the toxic environment without a job lined up
forcing out Maresca has set this project back and maybe tanked the whole future of the club
just so much ego in the director's box at chelsea - owners operating like asset managers and coming into football assuming they know more about football than everyone else

Welp. I don't know how to feel about it. If you were gonna sack him, why not do it ahead of time and keep Alonso?
I'm not sure how big of a role he had in the FO signing Wirtz and Isak. Why in the fuck did they wait until the last second to attempt to sign Guehi? Rolling the dice and running it back with VD, Konate, and injury-prone Gomez is certainly a choice.
I know nothing about this successor and his tactics so we'll see.

A lot of complaints I saw from Liverpool fans this season was about lack of energy and pace to the game, that is the complete opposite of Iraola who's whole thing is intensity and suffocating the opposition high up the pitch. When they turn the ball over it is then get the ball forward with pace to dangerous areas. The biggest credit I give Iraola is how he develops players. Turned Zabarnyi, Huijsen and Senesi in to some of the most sought after centre halves in Europe. Kerkez was the best the best left back in the league under him and Truffert this season has been one of the best as well, so the fullbacks will be big winners, Kerkez and Frimpong. He has young attackers playing out their skin, Rayan, Kroupi and Semenyo beforehand.
The big question is how he handles going from Bournemouth to a monster club like Liverpool as managers have struggled with that leap before but I've seen Iraola teams in the flesh a few times now in England and I am always super impressed with what I see.
