Question of the day: If you could choose one of the following players (in their prime) to join this team, who would it be?

Ray Lewis
Ed Reed
Haloti Ngata
Terrell Suggs
Chris McAllister
Jonathan Ogden
Def reed and to me its the only answer.. would love suggs but i wouldnt want him to look like how judon or the rest of our pass rushers.. with reed, qbs have to look for him and beware every snap.. right now, everyone player on our defense gets picked on

ogden or reed

on ogden... yes the offence is doing fine right now but tackle is a weak link and has the ability to tank this offence - lamar leads the league in 3rd down sacks and partly that's on him but moreso it's on the OL for being unable to hold up when teams can pin their ears back - if you give lamar time in the pocket on 3rd down then it makes this offence literally unplayable

and it has the added benefit of maybe helping spark that running game

with reed - no one player fixes this defence but if you've got an offence that's humming then you don't need a shutdown defence, just an opportunistic one, and while we've got good players on defence right now, we don't have playmakers - and there has never been a better playmaker on the backend in NFL history - and on top of that you get sound play at single-high and some tone-setting tackling too - and a player with the athleticism to trigger from the post and come downhill on underneath stuff too

i dont think ngata or mcallister change much for this defence as amazing as they were - suggs could be a jenga piece potentially especially with how intelligent and versatile he was - and ray was amazing of course but again i think in this era of the NFL he wouldnt be nearly as dominant

I think the problems on defense can be solved with current personnel but that might be the optimist in me.

Think they are still adjusting and trying to figure out everyone's roles. Cleaning up tackling I'd assume drops us a significant amount in points and yards.
I actually agree. I’ve thought for a while that just giving these guys time to play without certain key players, wink included, will help them find out who they need to be.

I think Wolfe, westry, and Elliott are going to eventually really help solidify in the long run

Henry Ruggs kills someone drunk driving and all the media cares about is Aaron Rodgers being vaccinated. Like it's his choice, his body, if he doesn't want to get it then he shouldn't be forced to get it. It's crazy how quickly Aaron Rodgers is being made an example of just for good PR.

this is a weird statement to make - the media has been all over the ruggs stuff

but also dont oversimplify the rodgers situation - it's not about whether he's vaccinated, it's about him trying to circumvent the protocols in place for unvaccinated players and calling himself immunized after taking some sort of homeopathic "treatment" and then breaking those protocols even after clarifying with the NFL... and then getting covid

lots of guys both vaccinated and unvaccinated have had covid this year - rodgers scandal is not about his vaccination status but how he wilfully broke the rules

LOL, so a couple of things here:
1. Honestly, why is Ruggs a story beyond like one day? What's the purpose of even talking about him? He's no longer an NFL player, he will almost certainly never be an NFL player ever again, and he's going to spend a lengthy amount of time in prison. What is there to discuss, exactly?
You can find somebody who did something very similar in your local newspaper every day, and we don't spend any time at all talking about that person. So why talk about Ruggs?
2. I'm not sure the media (outside of some of the more liberal quacks) are really caring so much about whether Rodgers is or isn't vaccinated per-say. I think they care about the fact that a) he pretty much intentionally gave the perception to the media several months ago that he was vaccinated by his little "I'm immunized" line, and b) it doesn't appear physically possible that Rodgers or the Packers were following all of the COVID protocol for unvaccinated players, because we have pretty clear instances of him in videos, photos, etc. not doing so.

So for most, it's not really even a single player is vaccinated or not vaccinated issue. It basically appears that the NFL and/or the Packers organization doesn't give a rip about protocols that the league has established for itself, and that they're certainly willing to take substantial health and liability risks to avoid being in compliance. And at a time where the league is already getting shit on from a PR standpoint for multiple failures, the inability to adhere to protocol they implemented during a human health crisis would certainly be pretty terrible optics for the league.

Now, realistically, that's just the liberal media's point of view. In reality, the general public cares because Aaron Rodgers he is a significantly more impactful player in the NFL than Henry Ruggs is, and because Rodgers missing a game or two hurts sports betting, hurts fantasy sports, and makes it more likely that fans of the Packers will see their team lose an additional game or two that they may or may not have previously. At the end of the day, it's the "selfishness" in all of us.

Here's the truth that most people REALLY think but won't ever admit publicly, because it makes them look bad to do it. I don't really care about anybody who doesn't interact with me or my family vaccination status. At a personal level, if Lamar Jackson never got vaccinated, I wouldn't care. The only reason I care if he does or doesn't is because it impacts the team that I cheer for. That's it. They're Pro Athletes. You only care about them because they're entertainment. Most of us will never know these people personally, will never meet them, won't have any insight at all into their personal lives. They could be serial killers, rapists, thieves, anti-vax, pro-vax, drug addicts, alcoholics, and a litany of other things, some of which would make us cringe at a human level. Others may be the second coming of Jesus Christ for all we know. We don't know them, and they don't know us.

People need to admit the REAL reasons they care about things, not the fake one's.

I'll even double down on one thing...

If Davesta posts here anytime in the near future, ask him what his very first thought was when he heard that Rodgers had COVID and was going to miss this week's game. I guarantee his first thought was NOT "O man, I hope he's OK and he doesn't end up hospitalized". His first thought was, guaranteed, "fuck, now I gotta find a QB for my fantasy team this week".

And I'm not even calling him out or anything. That's precisely the way I would have thought. I'm a Derrick Henry owner in multiple leagues. I couldn't give a shit less about Henry's foot. All I cared about was "fuck who is going to replace him on my fantasy team".

The general public doesn't actually care about the physical well-being of these people. It's all for selfish reasons. We want Rodgers to be vaccinated so that we get to see the best talent in the world play football, and so I don't have to watch Mahomes vs Love, which is far less appealing to me.

Id rather them not talk about ruggs, even though they have been.. stuff like that shouldnt even be allowed to be discussed about on espn.. same goes for getting covid vaccine or not. once they start talking about those players character as a man, is when everything needs to be cut off imo.

I wanted to see henry break the rush record but soon as he went out.. i told my self” yea im betting with rams”…. As for covid, whenever i hear that someone has it i tend to always say “ i hope he dnt have as bad as i did”..

The only real justice possible in the Ruggs case would involve a 23 year old woman and her dog being alive. That can't happen. Everything about that incident is tragic and infuriating. I, for one, am fine not hearing more about it.

The Packers situation involves an entitled liar thinking he's above the rules. I am interested in where this goes as teams, including the Ravens, have been previously punished for covid rule violations.

People should be discussing Rodgers because he outed himself as a total dumbass. And no, I'm not talking about taking the vaccine or not. I'm talking this quote from (https://www.nfl.com/news/packers-qb...tive-for-covid-19-will-not-play-in-week-9-ver)
"Rodgers received homeopathic treatment from his personal doctor to raise his antibody levels and asked the NFLPA to review his status."

I mean seriously? "Hey there mr. Rodgers, I made this extract from cowdung and if you chew it, you'll be safe from cancer, just pay me 10000 dollars"
Facepalm all day long.

Edit: cool, I got my first brush with the profanity filter. Calling someone a "non-intelligent rear end" is frowned upon here. Interesting

And homeopathy has long since been debunked. I have no idea why people still cling to that shit.

haha dont worry about the profanity filter - it's automatic and really frustrating and moderators cant do anything about it lol

That's a hard question honestly. McAlister and Ngata are the only ones I rule out immediately.

Ray probably doesn't play as well in the current era but the intangibles on a defense that looks lifeless sometimes is really understated.

Reed shuts down half of the field and probably lets Wink do a lot more of what he's done in the past with greater success.

Suggs would be great for any sort of consistent pass rush.

Ogden would solidify the left side immediately.

I want to say Ogden but I don't think he alone can solve the offensive issues, where Reed alone changes everything we're able to do. So give me Reed.

I think college ray lewis weight would play great.. ray lewis was basically the first bobby wagner

Surprised nobody has said Jamal Lewis given we are a run first team. Jamal in his prime while teams having to account for Lamar would be hard to stop.

Right, but my point is, the only reason people are talking about Rodgers is because his status impacts other people. In this case, it really only impacts the media and the fans to the extent that he won't be available to entertain them on Sunday.

Would we be having conversations about an average person who took some snake oil to solve Covid?
