The Random Thought Thread

I don't know how the NFL will go about playing the game then leaving enough time for the Bills & Bengals to prepare for Week 18. I just can't see any way this doesn't hurt both teams if they have to play Wednesday/Thursday only to play another game on a short turnaround.

this is crazy though because they sent the bills home
they're gonna potentially ask these bills players to get back on a plane again just a day after and play like this?

that seems crazy to me

Yes this is crazy. They could push the season back a week and get rid of the pro bowl.. not sure the financial/ logistical issues that many cause. That might be the best route though, take a week for players and coaches to process this all. Fans will be fine

i get why they dont want to do this, and the fact they didnt really do it for Covid either suggests they wont do it now

but that was my first thought too - they've got a whole built in extra week...

The only way the Ravens can go on a run is if every single one of these things happens concurrently. The spoiler is its impossible.

Lamar comes back healthy and plays at a high enough level

Calais, Peters, and Moses all are back and play at a high level

Everyone stays healthy

Justin Houston finds a way to go apeshit for a few games in the playoffs.

The defense overcomes its inability to hold leads.

The offense finds a way to be efficient in the redzone.

Greg Roman is locked in a closet and someone else calls plays for the remainder of the season.

idk that it requires all of those things

Lamar returning is obviously crucial. And I think this is really the biggest solution to the redzone issues anyway.

Calais and MP coming back is pretty important but I don't think Moses being absent necessarily ruins our chances, we're blessed with Mekari and Faalele to cover at RT and Colon can cover C so Mekari doesn't have to.

Would be great to find a pass rush but i think it's more likely the whole EDGE group just needs to get slightly better and we have to hope the return of Calais helps himself and Madubuike (and Washington) create interior pressure that helps the whole unit. I don't think we need Houston to go insane to make a run.

The defensive 2 minute issue has to be solved though. Playoff games are inherently higher pressure, they're likely against better offences and QBs than we've played for the majority of the regular season... giving up free points at the end of halves and games is untenable.

obviously the more of those things that happen the better - but I think to have a chance at a run, Lamar returning, Calais returning and better situational defensive playcalling changes a bunch of things straight away.

The dolphins not making the playoffs could actually be a bad thing. Them missing, coupled to Tuas injury history may mean they move on from him. Imagine them even putting someone like Derek Carr on that team.

Agree on Moses, but I'm not at all convinced that Lamar being in the game will fix the RZ issues. Secondly, I really only believe Houston has the ability to take over a game for the EDGE spot. I'd gladly take a magic improvement from the whole room, but realistically if we don't actually start getting meaningful sacks (because somehow every time a QB escapes it's a big sideline completion USUALLY ON 3RD DOWN) we're going to give up too many points against good offenses to actually compete.

Would be an upgrade. Jimmy G might be available as well and has a relationship with Logic

Or how agressive the Fins could be in trying to get Lamar Jackson to come home.

Nfl is dropping the ball big time imo. Cancel the game, Calculate seeding for a 16 game schedule for these 2 teams, and move on.

This is not gonna be a good look for the shield if they force these guys to play this quickly, then go practice and play week 18 on a VERY short week, then go to the playoffs.

This is where the players union needs to make a stand imo, it’s what a union is for. This isn’t a necessary service, it’s a game, it’s entertainment, it’s not critical that the game is played, it’s just a matter of making up lost dollars for unfathomably wealthy people.

already been confirmed they're not playing each other this week

Officially - the game will not be played this week.

My guess is they wait and see what happens with week 18 games and make a decision then.

What is going on with Moses?

Fixed it

Moses has been playing well...
He’s been decent, he’s had some real ugly moments and has been penalty prone this year though, he leads the team with 7. I don’t think his play outweighs this. If he hasn’t been doing things like this for a big part of the season he would be fine.

Still, he has been a key piece to this great O-line all year, and 7 penalties isn't great, but it does show you ow non-penalty prone the Ravens are because that's a pretty low number for a team leader.

Did I say I was 'pro honesty'? I mean, I am in general, in life but, in this case, I've been arguing for Harbaugh to show consistency with his ethos - which isn't about honesty. It's about preserving a united front in public and focusing on the collective above the individual.
Is preserving a united front in public important? Or who is it important for? Feels like its just optics to fans can feel better about outcomes.
