Outside of Hollywood i think it's fair to say that our 2019 draft class ( as i expected it to be and gave it a low grade) has been utter crap.

Hollywood: A
Boykin : C-
Ferguson: F
Justince Hill: F
Ben Powers : Obviously not good enough right now to even make an active spot - F
Iman Marshall: N/A
Daylon mack: F
T-Mcsorly: N/A but a stupid pick

really poor draft actually.. Saved by the hollywood pick. Boykin can do better but overall it's nothing compared to last years draft.

Fair to say? we're only half a year in

last years draft class was a really good class, this years has more long term aspirations. I have a lot of confidence in Boykin, but that probably won't come until year two and the same with Ferguson and Hill.

I know you don't like Hill, but he has only had 21 carries to this point for 85 yards. He's got some talent and if he had more carries he'd be doing fine. That being said, we aren't going to take carries away from Ingram or Edwards. I also feel Ben Powers will improve in year two as it can be a learning curve for offensive lineman in their first year. Not sure about the rest, as I didn't study any tape on Daylon Mack or Iman Marshall. I feel Mcsorly is a future RG3 replacement that will save us cap room, so it's not a stupid pick at all.

Up till this point if you're going to grade ( like most have) it's pretty fair IMO

Usually team drafts are graded after it happens but its more of a prediction, then they revisit 3 years later to see what they got right and wrong. You could be completely wrong about it being a poor draft.

the 2018 draft showed it in their first year

just saying
and that's why it was a tremendous draft, but most drafts around the league don't show it right away. Last year we were able to draft Andrews and Zeus, Jr. in the 3rd round, when they should have been drafted in the 1st or at the very latest early in the 2nd round.

you're not wrong but we had 2 first round picks and 2 starters from the 3rd round that year - we had to wait 60 picks to make our 2nd pick in the draft this year - we havent been great with 2nd round picks recently but this class clearly is 1 player short (a player we gave up for lamar)

and i think you're being harsh on ferguson - he's been awful in run defence but he's been ok vs the pass and remember he was expected to be sat on the bench all year - he came out of a small school where he was the strongest and fastest guy on the field every snap - he's been due some transition time but he has traits and they're clearly translating here but he's now a full-time starter on this defence probably a year earlier than we'd hope for - we'll see but hopefully he comes on strong now because he's playing a lot of snaps

we're seeing flashes from boykin

the reason the class seems unimpressive is because none of our 5 day 3 picks have seen the field - we've got a 3rd string qb, a DT who's only been active for 1 game and didnt get any snaps really in that game, a cb who's only just practicing having been injured, an OG who's not been active yet and a RB who's had 20 carries all year (albeit far more than that in snaps)

Hill is the guy in that group most likely to come on and improve (i know you dont agree) because he's getting touches in this offence with this backfield depth (basically as the 4th option at running back) and he's doing fine - if he can develop enough as a pass blocker then he'll see more 3rd down snaps and start becoming an option in the passing game - then we'll see him more in space

it's also tough to evaluate this class because the 2018 class was extraordinary...

we've got 5 starters (or basically starters) from that draft + deshon elliott, kenny young (who helped get us marcus peters), anthony averett and zach sieler all on day 3 - that's an insane class which may get even better depending on whether deshon elliott can stay healthy for a season (because if TJ is cut next year as i expect he will be and chuck clark keeps that starting spot then we're gonna see deshon on the back end a lot)

Part of my enjoyment of this team this year is just finally after a little while having players at their respective positions who are actually regarded as among the best at their position:

Lamar Jackson at QB
Ronnie Stanley at LT
Marshal Yanda at RG
Mark Andrews at TE
Marlon Humphrey at CB
Earl Thomas at S
Sam Koch at P
Justin Tucker at K

that's legitimately 8 guys who are currently operating among the best at their position and i would be surprised if any of them dont make the pro bowl (and in a couple of cases id be disappointed if they werent first team all-pros - marlon humphrey and ronnie stanley especially)

If I'm picking my mid-season all pro team it probably looks like this:

QB: Russell Wilson
RB 1: Christian McCaffrey
Flex: Dalvin Cook
WR 1: Michael Thomas
WR 2: Mike Evans/Tyler Lockett
TE: George Kittle
LT: Ronnie Stanley
LG: Quenton Nelson
C: Erik Mckoy
RG: Brandon Brooks
RT: Ryan Ramcyzk

DL: Aaron Donald
DL: DeForets Buckner
EDGE: Khalil Mack
EDGE: Joey Bosa
LB: Luke Kuechly
LB: Eric Kendricks
CB: Marlon Humphrey
CB: Stephon Gillmore
S: Devin McCourty
S: Justin Simmons
Flex DB: Earl Thomas

K: Justin Tucker
P: Brett Kern

biggest struggles: ryan ramcyzk vs mitchell schwartz, brandon brooks vs marshal yanda, khalil mack vs nick bosa vs TJ Watt, deforest buckner vs calais campbell, eric kendricks vs jamie collins, earl thomas vs minkah fitzpatrick

some observations:

the best 3 guards in the league this year are clearly Quenton Nelson, Brandon Brooks and Marshal Yanda but there's obviously only 2 spots, ronnie stanley and ryan ramcyzk are clearly the 2 tackles, george kittle is maybe the easiest pick in the whole exercise outside of justin tucker, edge rusher is the most difficult position to decide - feels really harsh not even considering cam jordan, safety felt like the weakest position to choose from, it might be surprising that wagner isnt the 2nd lb next to kuechly but honestly i think there's clearly been 2 (and maybe more) LBs better than him this year

I honestly hope we dont have anyone playing in the pro bowl.....

Good list but I honestly think TJ Watt deserves 1st team this year. Hes balled out all year and really made a case for himself to be the better Watt (as of rn that is) regardless of JJ having the injury

but who do you replace for TJ to go in - no way joey bosa isnt in - so are you taking khalil mack out? it's really tricky lol

my plan for the offseason

Extend Pierce and extend Peters

Tender Ricard ( 2nd round ) Edwards ( 2nd round)

See what you can do
Peanut
Judon

FA priorities J Thuney ( LG, move Bozeman to C)
Clowney

Draft Priorities
Round 1 - ILB
Round 2 - OLB/DE pass rusher
Round 3 - WR
COMP 3 ( fucking do it for us CJ) OG
Round 4 CB
COMP 4 DT
COMP 4 OG/C

This was an interesting tweet I thought should be posted here

@Deebo813

The @Patriots are 3-6 in playoff rematches vs teams that beat them in same regular season since 2001

Last 5 such games:

2015 AFC Champ L @Broncos
2012 AFC Champ L @Ravens
Super Bowl XLVI L @Giants
2010 Div Rd L @nyjets
2006 AFC Champ L @Colts
Been on a 6 day trip with a wifi not strong enough to do anything lol.. but yea these patriots of the last 5 yrs have been different. I remember their last 2 loses but i dont remember anyone really beating pats last 5yrs like that so thats why i keep saying it

couple of things i disagree with - skura's getting a 2nd round tender and i dont think he's losing his starting job im afraid unless we get an A+ rookie in the building - i think we draft an interior OL to add competition, hopefully win a spot on the OL and eventually take over yanda's spot when he calls it a day but i think skura's gonna be here for at least 1 more year as our starter - not sure ricard needs a 2nd round tender tbh - probably can have the original round tender - no one's gonna steal him from us because no one needs a fb who plays DL or a DL who cant play 3 downs

and with regards to the draft if all things are equal i.e. no quality differential between all positions when we pick - there's no way we dont take a pass rusher if one's there - otherwise im pretty much with you in terms of priorities - no idea who we'd target in free agency though - we need to extend ronnie stanley this offseason also

I know a lot of us wanted it from this offense and i love it.. the motioning wrs and TE, giving him the ability to read defenses before the snap. He can only get better. He didnt make dumb passes in college and def not doing it in the nfl. Dam i love this shyt
