The Random Thought Thread

Long time no talk....

Only coming back temporarily because I want something... anyone have a subscription to the Athletic? Lame, but I wanted to read Jeff's newest jersey number article if anyone can copy and paste and PM to me.

GOT IT - THANKS. Y'ALL SOME REAL ONES!

what ive been really enjoying in the media right now with the 3 main mvp candidates being lamar, deshaun and russ (all black qbs) is that finally all these former players are calling out those white talent evaluators and white members of the media who have held onto traditional biases that have been unchallenged despite the rationale being often-times a load of bullshit - ive seen it in about 4-5 shows this week where black panellists (often former players) are challenging those preconceptions and calling out media members and even gms and former gms (including a guy like bill polian) and saying not only were you wrong but you also dont get to apologise like that without admitting to why those biases exist

it shouldnt have taken this long but it really feels like a watershed moment in the nfl right now in those terms

shannon sharp putting bill polian on blast is awesome

i wonder what the terms are...
he's a guy who's played a lot of special teams for us since he got here and has done really well at WLB with peanut out - played about 30% of the defensive snaps against the patriots despite the fact that we rarely had more than 1 LB on the field in lots of situations and sometimes even no LBs

i wonder if this is also in preparation for peanut walking away in free agency

I also saw something today that said Dez Bryant was looking to sign with a team in the next few weeks. Could EDC be making some room to get Dez? I wouldn't mind us going after him if he looks good enough in workouts and isn't going to cost a lot.

The #Ravens have signed LB LJ Fort to a 2-year, surprise extension through 2021 that pays him $5.5M, source said. He gets $3.25M fully guaranteed at signing -- all next year. He was cut 5 weeks ago by the #Eagles and still has $1.9M in guarantees this year. An early payday.

nice cheap signing - Fort gets some guarantees for the next 2 years, the extension has i think no impact on his deal for this year

i wonder if we do something similar with josh bynes

Probably not cause he 30 and isn't viewed as a every down inside linebacker even though I think he's well deserving of a extension. Bynes not only has helped The Ravens defense in defending against the run but he also been solid in coverage. I have even seen him help players get lined up on defense. I think Bynes intelligence in general has been really helpful for this defense .

Don't forget Teddy, Prescott, Mahomes, Murray - all balling at really high level and all of them great examples of what the athlete should be on and off the field. I am huge fan of all these guys. It took almost hundred years but there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Not sure if it makes sense for Dez Bryant to come here. The Ravens aren't even targeting their receivers that much and for a guy that's most likely looking to prove a point that he can still play it doesn't help his value as receiver to come here. He would only want to come here unless The Ravens are the only team showing interest or if he really likes to be apart of our team. I know he gave Lamar Jackson some praise on twitter but other than that not sure if he wants to play in this offense if he's looking for more money next year.

I think Dez just wants to go to a contender that he can help win and we certainly fit into that category. He may not be the same player that he once was, but he's still a veteran that could provide a boost to our WR group. Also, if he's fully recovered from his injury then the time off might have actually helped him to recover some of the explosiveness that he used to have.

i mean LJ Fort is 29...

yeah mahomes another mvp candidate also (who's already won an MVP)

Yes please. I don't even visit br.com anymore.

I refuse to after they dumped the forums, and I liked those forums even though they were run by assholes.

One time I was given a warning for using this picture of Suggs as my avatar because of "profanity".

With the LJ Fort extension here is the list of UFAs this offseason for the ravens (having now extended, tucker, tavon, snead, fort, yanda):

  • Jimmy Smith
  • Michael Pierce
  • Patrick Onwuasor
  • Matt Judon
  • Marcus Peters
  • Pernell Mcphee
  • Seth Roberts
  • Chris Moore
  • Anthony Levine
  • Josh Bynes
  • Cyrus Jones
  • Brynden Trawick
  • Jordan Richards
  • De'Anthony Thomas
  • Jihad Ward
i could see us re-upping a few guys who've helped turn this defence around who aren't necessarily the marquee guys so wont cost much - bynes, jihad ward and picking our battles with the potential free agents - we'll see what happens but at this rate I think we're going to try and re-sign marcus peters and i wouldnt be surprised if there's an offer on the table for jimmy smith also

i think peanut is probably gone, judon may well be gone also, pierce i think we'll try and retain but it depends on price

the blueprint for our defence has quite clearly been if we can have ridiculous secondary depth then it frees up our pass rush even with no name guys in there as long as we can stop the run which makes me pretty confident that the priorities will be marcus peters, jimmy smith, michael pierce and then the other guys will be price-dependent

we'll see whether pernell gets re-signed - he was really good for us but he also got injured which was a common reason for his ineffectiveness since leaving baltimore the first time

it's going to be one hell of an interesting offseason - im not sure i see us signing that many of other teams's free agents to be honest - EDC has made it clear that we'll take care of our own first and he's already extended 5 2020 free agents before we've even got to the offseason

Id like to bring back Peters (priority) and Ward, hopefully Bynes and Levine for the right price. Pierce and Judon will get overpaid imo. Everyone else is replaceable.

Something tells me we're not gonna be able to hold onto Pierce. We gonna have to tag him to keep him.

Pretty sure the wrs are gone. Would love to bring back Jimmy at a team friendly deal. No idea where Peters' head is contract wise but would like him back as well. Ward would be good for depth and shouldn't be too expensive. Would like Levine back as well due to his role. Would like Judon back, but the truth is I think he's gone for a payday and he deserves it. Just dont think we should break the bank for him. Would try to bring back McPhee if he'd take a similar deal. Its funny the difference a year makes. Where last year it felt people were hesitant to come, I think Baltimore might be an attractive FA destination.

Pretty sure Pierce and Peanut are gone. Don't we still have Board on IR?
