The Random Thought Thread

i havent really noticed any new plays since week 9 when we brought out the heisman (seemingly as a joke lol) - early in the season we seemed to add a couple of things a week - either we've finally got the whole playbook out there and we're just letting nailing it at this point with full mastery - or you're right and there's still 1 or 2 other things we haven't shown (or have hardly used) so far

interestingly we've used like 2 trick plays all season but both were on special teams - i guess when your offence is this effective you dont need to go into the bag of tricks to create offence
I'd like to see a screen to Hill or Brown. Both of which I could see break out for a huge gain.

Just saw that Mosley went on IR. It’s a sad day.
The Ravens wannabes couldn't even help out the originators. Sad!

I know this is real conspiracy like and definitely not true and even if it is true didn't start this way... But does anyone think that a lot of Boykins snaps are being hidden for the post season? Everyone was hyped on him preseason, but he didn't quite have the playbook. I think he does now but he hasn't been targeted really. Could we be hiding him a little?

No. I think he’s kinda suffering the Tandon Doss effect where he looked great in preseason but had struggles in the regular season. Nothing to be alarmed about yet but I wouldn’t bet the future on him yet either. That said, I’m not keen on betting on anyone because guys can just disappoint you. You always have to improve the talent on the team every year. I hope Boykin can come on though during the playoffs. That would be really awesome; however, I think if anyone does it’ll be Hurst because he’s flashed but hasn’t gotten enough chances. I suppose Boykin is in the same boat but I just feel like Hurst is out there more and more involved overall.

Hurst is more likely to have consistent snaps in passing situations ironically than Boykin who has turned into one of our best blockers at wr so he sees rotational work on running downs so he’s been getting receiving yards on play fakes etc - he’s doing well though in the way his route running is coming along and all it takes is Lamar seeing him on one of these deep shots and hitting him for suddenly him to become a major weapon

That being said the snaps would indicate he’s not primarily seen as a starting receiver for us and I think Seth Roberts has in some ways overtaken him a little in terms of targets recently

But I wouldn’t liken him to doss per se

This Mosely situation really pisses me off.

why does play time effect the former teams draft pick? It’s not like the Jets are giving up a 3rd rounder after signing C.J.

Ut really should only account for the price tag, not playing time afterwards.

Why not? Tandon Doss got tons of hype in the Preseason but didn’t do much in the regular season. It’s not an insult to Boykin as much as comparing a similar situation.

I think it goes into the concept that the player wasn’t of that much value to the other team. I do agree with you to an extent that price should be the primary factor, but compensatory picks are to compensate teams for losing critical players. If Mosley misses a lot of games then it’s hard to call him critical. It looks like Ravens were smart to let him go now though.

Congrats Pat!

Now get Judon or Humph next Eric.
Humphrey has a 5th year option in '21. I wouldn't mind extending him early as he should, but Stanley and Peters would be most important at this point, even with Stanley's 5th year option coming up next season. Pierce will most likely walk and I'm not sure if we resign Judon either.

it is frustrating for sure, but atleast we won't lose it altogether. It will just be moved down to the 4th round.

Judon really just feels like the next "bad" Ravens contract if we end up paying him too much. He's a good player and locker room guy, but his production is just too inconsistent to feel comfortable giving him a huge contract. I could definitely see him going elsewhere to get paid like Zadarius.

he is top 5 in pressures but doesn't finish enough and many of his sacks are coverage sacks.

Exactly why he's not worth the top dollar that he's probably going to command in FA. We need a rusher who can finish regardless of how good the coverage is.
I agree with this, but who are we going to replace him with that would cost less and be as good a fit. Even if we get a chance to draft one, there is very little chance he is really good from the get go. That doesn't happen that often.

I mean its meant to counteract the loss of big time playmaking talent and if the talent was injured and barely played most of the year it could hardly be considered that big of a loss if your team had them instead.
