We're not shelling out 100 mil for pass rusher
Why the hell not?

First off bosa is an elite three down edge defender and edge rusher in general, we will NEVER snag a guy half as talented in the draft because we won’t be picking high enough, he’s young, Rock solid off the field, and it’s almost impossible to convince me we would find another guy in FA or on the trade block of this caliber or have edge rusher solved by then.

If he were on this team right now, you would literally be certain of a SB win and have no idea how anyone could stop us lol. Imagine having that for the final 2 years of Lamar’s rookie deal and likely being able to keep him at least 1 beyond that with most of the team intact...

Lamar is not the kinda guy you build for the long play with, you max out on his athletic prime and get as much hardware as you can, then later when he may begin to lose a step or 2 you see how he responds and maneuver from there

I believe you only pay QB the top money.
Lamar will be the top QB for much longer than people expect. He has shown outstanding mental and passing abilities after just one full season. Why do you think he won't build on that and improve as he goes on?

I never said I don’t think he’ll build on it lol, it’s just that it’s not guaranteed and until we see that, then we should keep the best possible team around him and maximize our potential now and let him carry the team through some more frugal seasons later on.

Basically, Do your best to win now, at all times, rather than build for the future. We have the qb of our future, now there should only be present. Milk this cow for all she’s worth

That's how you make frugal seasons. We dominated the league as it is, we don't need 100 mil pass rusher to 'build a winning team". We already have a winning team.

Nothing is guaranteed but when exactly do you propose we start trusting Lamar long term? He isn't losing a step any time soon, that's one thing I can guarantee.

I do trust Lamar long term, I don’t see where I’m suggesting I don’t lol

It’s all a moot point really anyway lol - no bosa will be available to us and it’s hardly likely a pass rusher worth that much will be able to make it to the market where we’ll be reasonably places to make a competitive offer

Philosophically I don’t agree that you only pay a qb top dollar but what I think wink has proved this year is that the money on your defence should be spent on the backend

That being said if we ever have a guy like a bosa here, there’s no doubt that we’d pay them

@allblackraven
That’s not saying I don’t trust him long term in any way lol. I’m just saying he clearly will have an athletic prime, which he’s currently in, so let’s maximize it.

im literally just saying do everything you can to win now, and even when that results in being cap strapped in the future, continue doing everything you can, because if you are dominating at this rate and you believe an elite edge rusher would be that one thing that would make you even better, then go get one.

if this strategy resulted in 2 or 3 Super Bowls in a 4 year span, I’d take that over any scenario that makes me take away from that for the sake of the future.

Also, trusting Lamar doesn’t mean you don’t think about potential disasters for the future, you never know what could happen to this team, whether it be disastrous injuries or regressions or losing a coach we really need or unlucky drafting or whatever, you never know if the teams window might slam shut after 3 years for whatever reason, so win as much hardware as you can, right now.

I don't buy hat strategy at all. Just take a look at the Rams.

Whoa now, cmon... The rams traded what like 5 consecutive years worth of first round picks?

that is an extreme outlier and you know it lol. I’m not talking about strip the team of any future to win now... I’m talking about making big moves when the opportunity presents itself, to address the remaining weak spots on the roster. If we are able to extend our cornerstones and sign a guy like that we would be better off, even if we were cap strapped a few years later. Doing this you do your best to win Super Bowls, then you try to remain competitive when the cap gets tight, draft well and get out from under the guarantees and then start again. Teams go through ups and downs, this one will too, it’s best to make the most of this up because the down will come regardless, and this same harbaugh/Lamar team can hit a down and come back up again after a few cap tight seasons.

what I’m suggesting is not nearly as reckless as the rams. I’m just saying that something like 80m/4 for one of the leagues best edge rushers without trading, would be in the teams best interest. If we get tight from 2022-23 or some shit then so be it.

I wonder if Joey Bosa wants to stay with the Chargers after his rookie deal...
I think it makes no sense to stay in LA if you're a Charger. You basically have no fan support, no QB, no HC, no home games and so on. The only upside is you're living in LA. As long as a player is good enough to choose between offers you have to opt for another franchise.

To me the Chargers franchise as is, isn't sustainable. They might need to relocate again and rebrand.

That’s essentially where I got the idea lol. There’s no way a superstar like Joey bosa is ok with the situation, like yeah he’s a low key guy and doesn’t make noise, but he’s been a champion since college and can single handedly change a defense, he can’t be ok with the thought of starting a rebuild in a city that doesn’t give a shit that they even exist lol

Black Adam schefter just listed a “top 5 LBs of the decade” and all but 1 were edge rushers.

We can’t be still doing this shit in 2019.... come on, it’s ridiculous. When will the nfl just fucking sanction the position of “edge” so we can stop with this madness. The only reason this bullshit happens is because morons look at stats and see a von Miller or Demarcus ware listed as a LB and think they’re the same as Luke kuechly. List edge defenders as edge defenders, and do so retroactively as well, end the bullshit.

Yeah 2 completely different positions where one is a sideline to sideline run defender while another is a sack artist that is playing one side of the field. It should be listed as a ILB or OLB imo not LB/edge. A great year for an ILB would be 5 sacks if we're looking at just that stat.

not so sure I agree with this, because not all OLB are edge rushers.

I think it should be LB and edge. Because mychael kendricks and Shaq Barrett are both OLBs but play drastically different positions.
