Lol at us keeping Jermaine over Nico.

I hate this FO
With his injury last season and the injury to Senat, we really didn’t have much of a choice. We certainly don’t want Hurst or Lewis playing LT in case Stanley can’t play, which has happened this season.

Nico didn’t do well in the preseason either

and yet he was still way better than Jermaine, who has no place at all in the league period.
Nico had a few dominant games on film in college, but he had entire games in college where he looked as lost and outmatched as Jermaine has looked in the pros.

Nicos dominant games he looked special, but they were few and far between.

No question and should get better next season.

you'd hope so

id imagine he's gonna be fighting for a roster spot in camp again though

Ronnie Stanley
Orlando Brown Jr
Marshal Yanda
James Hurst
Alex Lewis
Matt Skura (ERFA)
Bradley Bozeman
Greg Senat

these guys are all certain to be around in the competition and quite possibly all will be ahead of him + this is before you even take into account any new rookies or signings

I agree without a doubt that he will have to fight for a spot

Jermaine's done fine in a pinch at left tackle where he wasnt even supposed to be - he's earned his spot since being elevated onto the 53 this year
Except for the fact that he hasn't been. He's yet another one of our high character offensive linemen who is a well below average football player. He's gotten "tremendously better".. Congrats! He's gone from utter dogshit to just horrible. Wohooo. We can seriously do so much better and I hope to hell under a new regime that we stop going after this type of player. I'm pretty sure that all three are nice guys, but nice guys finish last. It's us drafting guys like him that result in us starting Alex Lewis when he has no position being in such position. You want guys like Hurst and Lewis as backups, that's fine. The two of them together can cover both tackle positions and the G. But it's a continuous example of us ignoring the true needs of the team and not caring.

You know why I'm so hard on all three? Because they epitomize everything wrong with this team right now and how we continually settle for mediocrity at the worst possible points and settle despite the fact that the interior offensive line has been a need for this team every year since 2015 when KO walked and Zuttah was exposed as a product of Kubiak.

And what have we done? Well, the best player we've drafted for the interior offensive line since then was a fourth round rookie in 2016, and he isn't particularly good. We found our long-term tackles, but one of them was a top 10 pick so you'd expect him to be great(and for what it's worth, he is. He is massively underappreciated by EVERYONE). Orlando Brown Jr. is a godsend but if we switch to a zone blocking scheme he will be rendered completely useless. Yanda is Yanda but he could hang it up any day now. So four years later since the offseason starts in 2019 and here's what we've done to address the interior oline.

-Converted Fourth Round Tackle Alex Lewis to G(hint...He's below average and should not be a starter)
-Drafted Bradley Bozeman in the SIXTH ROUND(he shows promise but still has a massive hole in his game as a pass protector).
-Converted Hurst to LG(sure, he's better here, but he's still below average and should not be a starter at all)
-Let Ryan Jensen walk(he may have been overrated but he's still way better than any of the aformentioned names above).
-Sign Matt Skura(who sucks.... Worst player on the list)
-Draft Nico(Very raw, high promise. Injury ruined him. I don't pin this on the FO)
-Drafted Eluemenor(who shouldn't have been touched with a ten foot pole until UDFA as a no risk high reward project who still has horrible technique).

Let's not kid ourselves. This oline has been neglected for far too long and I...am...sick of it.

We all want Lamar to be great, but to do that we need to stop settling for mediocre crap. I'm not asking for a line full of superstars. Far from it, that's totally unfeasible and I get that. But would it kill us to not have guys who don't impede process the team is having like Hurst, Lewis, and Skura have this season. I mean, damn near singlehandedly. It's not a coincidence that we start running the ball better when Bozeman and Brown Jr become far more involved in the run game.

Hint: Skura, Lewis, and Hurst are all utter LIABILITIES at run bocking no matter which position they're playing.

Hell, we've payed more attention to our WR corps over the past couple of years with acquisitions to try to improve it. You know how pathetic that is.

We need to acquire both a new G and a new C this upcoming season. Yanda could retire as soon as next month, and we need to stop taking him for granted like we've been doing for god's sake. Let's not get Lamar killed like we've done with Flacco.

im sorry but needing to improve the starters is not mutually exclusive to the idea of jermaine having done ok
it's incredibly difficult to find starter-level OL replacements - jermaine has done fine as an emergency LT - a role he's not supposed to be playing but has ended up being the primary backup for this year

he can have done ok and also need to be replaced - those 2 concepts are not mutually exclusive

They may not be, but if we do actually decide to upgrade the interior, and Senat is as good as he was advertised as a backup, Jermaine is also going to be gone. We'll have three backup olinemen(Lewis, Hurst, and Senat) who can play both interior positions as well as both tackle positions.

He's not good. He's been better than expected, but even then there was times where he, almost routinely got crushed when he's been in the game. I highly doubt he's on this team next year, and I'd be surprised if someone doesn't take a chance on him next season. He's only on this roster because of the fact that we've been ridiculously incompetent in terms of addressing the oline outside of two of the players we've drafted. He hasn't been okay, he's been "okay".

Can we just all agree on THANK FUCK that we didn’t banish Bozeman to the practice squad to get picked up by someone else... I honestly did not think we were gonna keep him.

Dog, you go on these rants and I just don’t have the mf time to read all this shit. Condense motherfucka

I would have been really upset and was happy we drafted him. He has potential to be a good lineman. He doesn't have a very high ceiling, but someone who can play both guard and center is always nice to have on the roster.
