The Random Thought Thread

I just don't know who bad they would have to implode to implode more then Cincy has already imploded.
 
For those who love to analyze ... how is it that our defense rebounded from their dip mid-season? I know our offense keeping them fresh by dominating TOP is a real factor, but in those games where we struggled a bit, teams were short passing us and working the middle of the field with TEs and RBs and getting us on our heels.

Aside from some early play by Kelce, I just haven't seen this happening. I can't imagine that teams have just not bothered to realize that might be the way to attack us. So how has it been that this weakness has seemingly disappeared?

Well, the Steelers do have a habit in general of playing down to their competition. It's why they lost to teams like the Raiders and Broncos.

Oklahoma's right tackle Ford is set to move inside to guard at the NFL level. He's an absolute mauler. But, 20s might be a bit high for him. He'd be more of a trade down target, or someone we can draft if we win the SB. Though if Thompson, the Alabama safety is available, we absolutely have to take him.

I think it’s all a TOP thing. Mosley I think is playing way too heavy for his frame and it wears him down, weddle is old and that wears him down, the pass rush is more effective and it hits harder and faster and more frequently, making those exotic blitzes scarier, because before QBs had time to diagnose this heavy and confusing blitz from 6 standup possible rushers/droppers because they were all exhausted and not getting home in time and guys like weddle and Mosley are a step slow consistently. That rush getting home quickly makes QBs panic because they just don’t have time to diagnose the blitz and wide open soft spots aren’t even recognized.

I agree a lot with this cuz it seems like they constantly showing blitz and then usually 2 of the 6 drop into short zones neglecting a lot more of them short passes in the middle of the field and besides TOP getting them more rests they're substituting a lot more freely.
 
I question whether its a TOP because the pass rush has done the same thing 3 weeks in a row, suck for 2.5-3 quarters then become gods at the end of the game. I don't get how the offense gets worn down not being on the field, or if its exhaustion why they aren't more dominant sooner

TOP works both ways - our D is fresh and the opposition has less time and less possessions to make something, so they try more, which usually leads to more mistakes.
I also wouldn't discount the fact we had, so far, good fortune with injuries.

Stanley going down every game only to be fine still gives me a heart attack every time
 
As if the Browns were a gimme in the first place. Even when they sucked, they were pretty damn competitive against us.

2012: Home - came down to the wire; Away - At one point they took the lead, but we score 11 unanswered to seal the deal.
2013: Home - We were down 6-0 at halftime. Scored 14 unanswered to win; Away - LOST
2014: Away - Clutch drive by Flacco that was capped by a clutch catch by Smitty and a Tucker GW FG; Home - Down 10-3 in a week 17 must-win. Ended up scoring 17 unanswered to win the game as well as thanking the Chiefs for beating the Chargers to get in the playoffs
2015: Home - Choked a 21-9 lead while McCown going apeshit on our defense; Away - Kick 6 to win the game as time expired
2016: Away - Scored 25 unanswered as they were in position to ROUT us in the first quarter; Home - Down 7-6 at halftime, but scored 22 unanswered to win
2017: Home - Won 24-10 as our defense played well for the most part except for the brief moment when Hogan came in and turned into Joe Montana before our eyes; Away - Decisive win
2018: Away - LOST; Home - ??
 
I feel like our best reasonable scenario (2 seed would be a dream but is too far fetched) is to have Houston lose to JAX and host the Texans for the opener as the 3 seed. I know some want to avoid the Texans but I think LAC is a less desirable.

That would also line us up to go to Foxboro instead of KC. Then have Chargers/Indy or TEN go to KC and win, which would allow us to host the AFC Championship.

and to think of the offenses we have played in that time

Tampa Bay
KC
At
Atlanta
San Diego

All top offenses in the league. TOP is a key component, but we are also finally creating turnovers and scoring on defense, something we were not doing in the first 9 of 10 games we played.
 
If the Ravens are looking for a cheap option to replace Brown in the short term, they have this WR who the Ravens can make a move on and sign to a 1 year "prove it" deal.

He plays for the Browns and doesn't get a lot of shots but everytime the ball is thrown his way it seems like a big play happens. This Brashad Perriman guy seemingly has all the traits and only good things happen when Baker throws to him.

Maybe the Ravens should make a move on this guy and try to get him cheap...

I don't think the Texans are a strong team at all. I would definitely want to face them rather than facing the Chargers or Chiefs.
