The Random Thought Thread

Don't "we all." I remember that night like yesterday. I was pissed we had selected a senior citizen TE(sorry Hurst) and then the joy of selecting Lamar. I was so damn happy. What a great moment in Ravens history.

We could have had Dallas Goedert AND Mark Andrews AND Lamar Jackson

Has goedert really been anything special though? In a similar role(TE2/3) He's put up 50 more yards and 2 more TDs, and he’s actually been much more of a TE2 than hurst has been, and that’s not an indictment on hurst and more about our system calling on a Boyle to be TE2, which is more how the eagles have been using goedert.

I can’t speak on a blocking comparison, but I know the ravens have used a lot of hurst for open field blocks, in-line, and out of the backfield and he’s been a pretty key part of what our offense has become.

Yeah I’m far from sold on the notion that goedert is anything more than what I thought he was, overhyped.

Oh. I'm not mad at the Hurst pick anymore. Think he be doing well if Andrew's wasn't a beast. Hes been reliable when thrown to and a good blocker.

My biggest beef was his age.

Ironically we drafted Hurst because Goedert is one dimensional and has durability issues. I still think Hurst can be the guy for us and his age isnt a problem unless he runs into more injuries.

their stats are pretty close and I'm happy to have Hurst. The only reason he isn't performing to a typical 1st round draft pick is Mark Andrews, who isn't performing to a typical 3rd round pick.

I didnt care about his age i just didnt like the pick. Then once we got andrews, the only TE i knew in the draft... thats when i kinda started really disliking the pick.. hurst is still helpful to this team though.

Goedart is an excellent blocker. I wouldn't say he's overhyped but he's not utilized as well as we utilize andrews but make no mistake, Andrews is right there with kittle and kelce as the best TEs in the NFL

Andrews was my favorite TE in the draft

My ranking was

Andrews
Goedert
Hurst
Gesicki
yep, liked them all as well and Goedert was my favorite. For what we do, Hurst and Andrews have been tremendous and I wouldn't change a thing outside of getting more balls to Hurst.

Speaking of the 2018 draft who would we have lost if we hadnt traded down? looking back it seems like a top heavy draft and maybe we should have picked someone like Derwin James at 16.

we would have lost lamar or one of the 3rd rounders at least - the capital we got from trading down twice helped us get lamar and also helped us keep 2 3rd round picks when we traded back in for lamar - you can quibble with who we got at 25 but im not sure its particularly meaningful to quibble with whether we picked at 16 given what we wouldnt have been able to do without those trade downs

Ya just LOVE to see it. Meanwhile in Ravens town, life Is good!

Leading up to the game I was saying "Best we can hope for is Steelers to lose or a tie game, don't think it gets any better than that" and then the Browns decide to do one of the most Browns things ever and manage to lose while winning a game.

I wouldn’t call goedert one dimensional, as a receiver he’s one dimensional being nothing more than a jumpball guy, but he was a solid blocker

@allblackraven What was Cyrus Jones like when he was in college? Did he return kicks then, and if so, was he a fumbler than as well.

he'll know better than me but my recollection is that he wasnt a regular returner at bama at all

He did share returning with other guys (Drake comes to mind, Eddie Jackson, too from memory) but Cyrus did plenty of that. Was electric, had quite a few long ones and few TDs. Only a few fumbles I can recall. Nowhere near as bad as in the pros.

He played plenty at CB, that's why he wasn't returning all the kicks.
