I have a bone to pick with maurkuice pouncey

This guy at the age of 30 has 8 pro bowls and 6 all pro selections

yet his HIGHEST grade ever on PFF is 78. EVER.

Most of his grades range between 64-73 ( with 2 seasons in the 50's and this current season he's THE WORST C in the league with a grade of 46)

YET at the age of just 30 HE HAS AS MANY ACCOLADES AS YANDA at 35!

should remove his selections...ITS an insult to the likes of Matt Birk

A lot of Steelers fans thought it was a blessing in disguise him getting suspended. Can't explain previous seasons but this year he got in for defending his QB.

And this also falls into the thought that Titans would be the tougher opponent down the road, with which I agree.
Absolutely. The titans scare the shit out of me, Steelers defense is only somewhat better than Tennessee’s, and their offense is way scarier especially with them having what most would consider an actual nfl QB

The only team that concerns me in the AFC is KC. We don't match up well against their WR"s. They are unbelievably speedy.
Aside from KCs WRs being a matchup problem Mahomes is #1 passer rating in the league when blitzed an we know how much we depend on the blitz to get pressure.

Oh and the simple fact that they are the next best team in the conference right now despite current seeding make them the team we would most like to avoid but also the team we’ll most likely face.

obviously you can't always go by PFF. You know this as well. That being said, it is an apples to apples comparison when we are using PFF as a tool in comparison with others. I agree he gets in on a popularity vote, due to being in Pittsburgh a lot and I hate when good players are bypassed because of popularity.

I thought LJ was the top QB against the blitz. Anyway, I agree, this imo is the only team that scares me.

Titans may scare the shit out of you but unless they show they can do on the road what they couldn’t do at home (beat the Texans) then they won’t be scaring anyone. No matter what we do with Pittsburgh if TN can’t get that win they are done.

My bad that was not correct about Mahomes being #1 v blitz but no matter the rank he proved to be excellent against us when we did blitz.

“The Chiefs bested the Ravens 33-28 in Week 3 at Arrowhead, and Patrick Mahomes went 10-of-16 for 104 yards with two touchdowns against the blitz.“

play a half and maybe some of the veterans would be inactive that day, which means we would need more offensive lineman if we plan on playing them after the first half. I think we should play to win, because having three weeks off before our first playoff game could hurt our momentum

besides it's not a meaningless game. It's a way to keep the Steelers out of the playoffs and continue our winning streak.
I’d feel differently about our week 17 matchup if beating the Steelers definitely would knock them out. However if TN can’t come up with a win @ HOU it won’t matter what we do. I really wish we had the Steelers this week and CLE next it would be a much easier decision

In the end we have to do what is best for us. In that the only argument that matters is the benefit of playing starters to stay sharp and to maintain our mojo vs injury risk. That’s it.

This teams chemistry and energy is a critical component to our success. It may not sit well if we hold back and give a game away to our rivals especially if it lets them into the playoffs. But if we suffer a key injury oh man that will never be lived down. It’s a super tough call.

Of course let’s get the win this week otherwise this is a moot point.

he's going to the pro bowl this year despite being ranked 36th in centres by PFF - now some of that will be down to injuries but i cant see how there wasnt a better center available than pouncey - skura will be devestated because based on this evidence he should have walked into the pro bowl even with his gammy leg

So not a full out effort to win.

I hate that there could be a scenario like this. I think you have to rest players, but it’s against the grain not putting out your best and trying to win.

there's also some historical precedent for not resting your starters - teams that have done that in the past have got instantly beaten in the playoffs on numerous occasions - playing starters in those games stops you from having pointless injuries (albeit in the grand scheme of things injuries arent that likely overall) but the psychological impact of not being cutthroat and trying to win by playing your best players (at least to start the game) probably has more of a negative impact

no question

Guess where we are on 4th down decision making. Of course the 'hawks and skins aren't close.

when you go for it on 4th down from your own 29 yard line and the fanbase basically doesnt even think twice about it because it's 4th and 1 you know you're a team that goes for it a lot lol - there are times at this point where it's like 4th and 10 and im disappointed we didnt pick up like 5 yards on the 3rd down just because I want us to go for it on 4th down - but the fact that we go for it almost 10% more often than the 2nd placed team on this list is wild

I’ve been hearing a lot of analysts who are scared to put the patriots to bed, under the rationale that they aren’t winning with style points like they did in the past, but they’re finding ways to win...

Funny, seems like that was a ravens theme for basically 20 years and the style points were the exact reason analysts would never give us credit or respect, but Now that the patriots are clinging to wins with ugly turnovers and defense and punt blocks, it’s the sign of a true champion.

If it’s 3rd and 5 or less, and we don’t make a real effort to convert on the ground then I’m pissed, because 3rd and 5 runs for this team will basically never result in anything worse than 4th and 1, which is basically a 99% conversion lol.

Then again, I love when they let Lamar pass in situations like that, but only with the play fake because 3rd and 5 is a very real running down for this team, and defenses go extra hard to shut it down because they know we’re going for it on 4th if we pick up 1-2 yards and they don’t want that smoke lol.

we have made 16 of 21 4th downs. I'm like, we have only gone for it on 4th down 21 times?

it notably excludes end of half situations (when you are more likely to go for it - especially end of game when down) - that might make an impact on those numbers but given that sam koch has only punted 35 times and justin tucker has only had 24 field goal attempts - 21 seems pretty high at that point - as the graph says - we are going for it on 65% of times when the situational win probability is above 20%

we're so balanced that literally any down is a running or a passing down - i dont mind lamar in empty on 3rd and 5 either tbh with no playfake because he can still scramble or we can still call qb draw if we dont like the look and if they leave guys in the box then lamar's got 1v1 somewhere likely with andrews or snead in a short area at the sticks and both of those guys can win early on those 3rd downs

I remember prior to the Rams game we were 10 of 14
