The Random Thought Thread

this might be contentious but until the police are trained to deescalate situations first and guns are regulated and banned then of course no one is gonna feel safe - i still find it crazy that guns are legal in the states - police over in the UK are literally trained to disarm people without guns and in the rare case where the other person has a gun only then does the riot team or the armed police get involved

the only reason police feel like they are putting their lives on the line is because they have created a divide where the people in minorities dont feel safe around police either --> the obvious solution is to deescalate the situation and take guns away from everyone except small divisions of specific "armed police" who only get called out to terrorism situations, large-scale events (where they are aware that they are the last resort) and as support
It's a great concept which i'm sure works very well in Great Britain. Unfortunately the right to bear arms is the 2nd amendment of our original constitution. The NRA (national rifle association) with fat pockets continuously lobbies in Washington to ensure it's never changed.

i dont get your point here - essentially you are saying that he shouldnt protest because he might be victimized for the very thing he's protesting - surely that makes the protest even more legitimate...
As I stated in an earlier post, "I don't respect all that he did but Kaep's original protest to racial inequality I agreed with and supported", meaning I felt his protest was legitimate. In the passage you replied to I am simply stating that along with his poor play from last season and no matter how legitimate his protest is, it has gotten him removed from playing now and possibly in the future.

I wonder if the Ravens played poorly just because they felt bad for Bortles and wanted him to keep his job LOL

Conferring with the 20+ people we tailgate with for each home game, we have come to a decision not to wear any of our traditional Ravens attire for this game and are wearing as much patriotic clothing as we can to make a statement. Maybe it will catch on.

Sorry... I have to.

Is this your theme song?

Honestly and looking in from far away - that's the last thing you guys need to do. There is an overwhelming amount of patriotism on display as it is.
Everything in moderation, otherwise it's unhealthy.

is that the 12 year old kid with the fake gun?
The reason I asked is I encountered someone on Facebook who was so pro cop that he seriously argued with me that the cop shooting within two seconds (less than a second after getting out of the car) was the right move and there was nothing else that could have been done to diffuse the situation... like rolling down the window and identifying as police, parking away and observing the situation, trying to use a taser....

To best honest I'm so unsure what stance to take on the kneeling. Part of me wishes it could be done in another way that doesn't seem to cause tension, while another part me of understands it is the best way to get noticed. Honestly though, I like football because it takes me away from everything else. It wasn't fun waking up at 6 am last week to listen to politics. But then again, people talking of it is the point, and it should not be swept under the rug. Certainly an issue must be solved, but I pray politics do not take over every aspect of our entire lives. I hate seeing a divide between everyone based off it, ranging from my friends to you forum members. We are Ravens fans and united in that way, it would be a shame for us to be separated and filled with hate. The one thing I am sure on; I want our team to be united. It pained me to see half of the team on their knees and half standing and locked arms, separated. I don't think it helped that we lost by 37 points. As much as I hate Jerry Jones, I love how he handled it. The players were able to get the point across, the armed services were not disrupted, and the players stay united. I really hope this can all be resolved, but unfortunately it looks to be just the start.

Great post!

I can respect everyone in here views, thoughts and opinions on this subject while at the same time; expressing and respecting my own! Again, that is the beauty of living here in a Democracy and not a Dictatorship! My wife and I are in Maryland now actually. We drove up earlier today in order to hang with our daughter prior to our driving up to Baltimore on Saturday for Sunday's game. I told my wife on the drive up:

"I don't know what to expect when the National Anthem is played at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday. I don't know if the players will stand or kneel or even if some of we fans in the stands may stand or sit. I don't even know if we will stand or sit. I don't know! But one thing I do know is that whatever will be done, it is ALL OF OUR 1ST AMENDMENT RIGHT to do so. If anything; we'll actually be in attendance to personally witness firsthand; this HISTORIC EVENT that has captivated the national spotlight over the past few days. We'll see it taking place live and in living color and how cool is that?" :D:cool:

Anyone here ever read the entire national anthem?
Here's something that as a non American I'd really like to know. Before the protest, did everyone listened to the anthem and stood while listening to it (not just at the stadium but at home or wherever they saw it sang)? I really don't know and that would help me get a better view of the mindset just to have a more precise opinion on it.
