The Random Thought Thread

My bad.. i meant that if kc loses next rnd, bills could have hfa throughout.
I mean I guess, but I'm not putting my entire roster in jeopardy just for an outside chance of hosting the AFCG.

If it were me, I'd send my starters out there early on, but I'm probably treating it more as a preseason game. Couple of series, maybe play through the first half. Beyond that, I'm not seeing a whole lot of upside.

Has Lamar ever beaten Ben? Or was this years first game the first time they matched up where we lost? God I wanna play Pitt first round if we make it.

Nope, they can't. Chiefs clinched homefield already, and Chiefs already said they're resting players.

KC is the top seed no matter what.
Pittsburgh and Buffalo can only be #2 and #3. They can flip flop there, but the only advantage this year of being #2 vs #3 is a guaranteed divisional round home game, which isn't that meaningful when there's no fans.
Actually Buffalo's windy conditions can be a big homefield advantage for them.

Perhaps. If they were playing Baltimore or Tennessee, for example, it'd likely be a disadvantage for them. Buffalo is not very good in run defense, and they're more efficient offensively when they can throw the ball down the field.

Both would be major challenges for them if they were playing in windy conditions. I made the comment a week or so ago that I'm not sure "typical Buffalo weather" plays to the strengths of that team. I think it plays much more favorably to some of their opponents.

Pittsburgh confirming they're starting Mason Rudolph against Cleveland on Sunday

i get it - but it does mean there's a high chance that this 1) lets division rival cleveland into the playoffs and 2) means they're more likely to face the ravens in round 1

maybe that's what they want, maybe they dont care (more likely) but i guess we'll see

Yeah I don't think they care, and I'm not sure many teams play "matchups" in their head, especially when they can't control half the outcome.

I don't think anybody, anywhere, thinks its in the best interest of Pittsburgh to play their starters all game on Sunday. If there's any team in the league that clearly "needs a break", its them.

They had a very early bye week (week 4), and they've played 5 games in 25 days.

Home field advantage isn't as big with an empty stadium but you'd still think playing to get a home divional would be worth it. Anyway I think resting Ben is a mistake so bring it on.

With that, and the assumption that both we and Cleveland win, it appears our playoff game will be based upon who wins the Miami-Buffalo game. If Miami wins, we play Pittsburgh and if Buffalo wins, we play the South winner and there's a Browns-Steelers rematch.

And for next year, we play Miami and the team (Colts or Titans) that doesn't win the South this weekend. Again, this is assuming we beat Cincinnati.

Yes. And we've had some back and forth this morning on whether or not we think Buffalo will play their studs long enough on Sunday to beat Miami. I don't think they do, but there's varying opinions to this point.

As I said before... I think the playoff picture in the AFC today is exactly what it will look like around 8pm on Sunday.

especially if it helps your nearly 40 yr old QB whose elbow looks inconsistently fucked avoid the freezing and windy buffalo

Even if Allen only plays part of the game, I think the Bills beat the Fins.

Miami's offence isn't very good and I think it's very likely they have to use Fitz to ensure they win, although they've said Tua is starting. Fitz gives them the best chance to win IMO.

Yea i really think bills win.. tua is not great whatsoever.

Yeah I was just coming to say this. Am I crazy to think that Miami is just not a good team? I feel like they're very similar to the Steelers. A pretty good defense with a pretty anemic offense. Tua plays extremely scared and kinda looks like Ben THIS YEAR. Everything is a little dump off, no pushing it down field whatsoever

Bens arm is clearly not healthy, he is old as fuck, at bare minimum Ben needs an entire week of rest to get his arm back, at this point in his career he doesn’t need reps. He’s not like a Lamar Jackson or josh Allen who are still getting their heads in the nfl and developing technique.

I think the ravens showed last year that a young upstart team who dominated the regular season shouldn’t be resting week 17 if you can help it.

He looks like a bust to me. He's playing like a game manager who just doesn't want to turn the ball over, which would be fine if he was a backup or a late round pick but for the guy who was drafted 5th overall I expect much more from him.

i mean tbf to Tua, he's a rookie coming off major hip surgery

looks to me like he hasnt got his zip back yet - release looks a bit longer and the ball doesnt come out as cleanly

of course it might also be related to the fact that he wont have 4 1st round picks at WR to throw to

he's been very lacklustre so far - but a bit early to call him a bust

This is why I want to play the Steelers and not the Bills .
