i know people keep telling me he's playing poorly but im not seeing it - he continues to struggle to get off blocks and make tackles sure... but he's also massively improved and actually pretty good in pass coverage at this point

not sure why he was off the field for those 4 snaps he missed

he's not been spectacular but he's been fine

he's inconsistent not bad

Yes but being awful (not. just bad awful) at tackling and useless at shedding a block considering his position makes him largely useless. It makes him a liability in the running game (as we have seen runs are stopped at the line or gain 8) and a liability in the open field. If he were a corner this would be fine, but he currently lacks the skillset to play his position properly.

but he's not been awful at the getting off blocks he's just been inconsistent - sometimes doing it well and sometimes not so well... that's fine
the tackling is frustrating and issue that he'll have to improve

but let's not pretend that the running game is the most important part of a modern LBs job anymore... people used to give CJ Mosley so much shit just because he wasn't uber athletic and amazing in man coverage and the ravens went and got an uber athletic LB who's getting better and better in coverage...

the vast majority of the NFL doesn't play like the 2019 and 2020 ravens - only 2 teams in the league run the ball more than they pass the ball and less than 10 even run the ball 45% of the time... it was even fewer in 2020...

yes you need to be able to fill to some extent but that's not your key job anymore

we drafted Queen to be able to matchup in the passing game and not get victimised by TEs and backs, we drafted him to go sideline to sideline and stop guys from turning the corner and we drafted him to add another element of explosion to our blitz packages - we did that with the expectation that we could find ways to help him attack in the running game which he's sometimes done and sometimes not done

so he does have the skillset to play his position properly - if all we cared about first and foremost was run fits and tackling and passing second then malik harrison would be the mike for this team and would have been since he was drafted but we dont because the NFL has moved on

the 49ers just gave Fred Warner a nearly 100m contract - he's not a particularly good run defender and notoriously at times gets run over or hits the wrong gap - will make splash plays and good plays at times like many talented athletic LBs - but he's awesome going sideline to sideline and amazing in coverage so no one cares about the other stuff

he came out for 4 snaps - he had his helmet on but i doubt he was "benched" - not really sure what happened but he was only out of the game for 4 snaps

The podcast I was listening to made it seem like he got benched and that Bynes activation was a bad sign. I honestly didn’t even notice Queen being out or his bad play. I know he hasn’t been great this year but I also didn’t think he was as bad as some where making it sound.

i was looking on film for any reason why he might have gone out and i honestly cant think of anything - my only question is whether in the thin air he was maybe a little gassed... idk

i dont think he got injured because his helmet was on and he was stood on the sidelines watching but ready to come back in

but he was only out 4 plays which would suggest he wasnt benched and it's not even like it was a whole drive because he replaced Bynes to finish the drive and get the ravens off the field...

so not really sure what was going on

but out of interest... what was the podcast?

this is the kind of stuff im talking about - and i think Queen will always grade out poorly in PFF partly because of the defence we run and the way we guys create plays for others

Queen makes this play happen for Houston by creating a lane and for Oweh by drawing the back away from his side in pass pro - he pulls the RB out of the play

this is the stuff that infuriates me because this is a great play and he'll probably get given a negative grade for it

oh and by the way - this is why PFF grades are mostly trash - these are the guys who grade the plays - they don't understand the basics

Just so we’re clear, any of us on these boards who actually watch and have a grasp, don’t see these plays and have the same brainless response.

our negative comments on queen this season have everything to do with his horrid tackling and his indecisiveness. Queen is an instant trigger fucking missile of a LB, and he is NOT playing like that at all this year, that’s where the negativity comes from. I never bought into Pffs grade on queen and never will.

It’s this. There are still moments where he shines but they haven’t shown up enough this year. He’s going to have struggles throughout his whole career but he needs to develop some more consistency. The last 3 games have been bad. It’s not all doom and gloom but we need him to be better more consistently. Horrible tackling and he’s been washed out of the run game far too often. But again, he still has moments where he looks incredible… just less frequent so far.

So Seahawks-Steelers stays on SNF in Week 6, apparently the deadline was yesterday lol. It is interesting that they didn't at least choose Cardinals-Browns since FOX didn't protect it. Our game against the Chargers? CBS made sure to protect it from being flexed. YAY 1PM GAMES!

Not surprising. Arizona/Cleveland are both small markets, so I wouldn't expect them to flex out of this game for that.

but im saying that watching the coaches film is illuminating with queen - yes he's been disappointing at times in the running game but he's leaps and bounds ahead of last year in the passing game

people are criticising him without that context which if anything in the modern day nfl is a more important part of his play

i wish he was more consistent but he's not been that horrible the last 3 games at all

Anyone seen proche’s post Denver game press
Conference? That mf makes me uneasy, he strikes me as unstable lol, his eyes look like They’re gonna pop outta his head and he talks like he’s super wound up and on edge

tbf he did say in that presser that one of the things Coach Dubb and Tee have helped him with is staying balanced and not getting too high or too low

think he still felt wired from the game and finally being a part of the offence and he's not had a ton of experience with post-game pressers maybe...

but to your point, proche specifically talked about staying even

not just 9 major contributors but 8 of them are legitimately starting right now for NFL teams lol

the only guy of the 8 who isn't a starter was the first guy in this class to get a 2nd contract lol (Zach Seiler)

just a wild wild wild draft class
